Thumbs up May The Force Be With You.... Jedi Knights now an official Religion

I'm interested what you folks feel about Jedi Knights being an official religion in U.K.

With how the world is going crazy by the minute and being a SW fanatic, I'm not surprised and actually think its cool. But this one really borders on the insane.

Jedi Knights achieve official recognition as a religion
    By Kieren McCarthy
    Posted: 09/10/2001 at 10:33 GMT

Jedi Knights have gained official recognition as a religion in the UK Census 2001.

Coming very near the bottom of an official list of religions put out by the Statistics Office, Jedi Knight is known by the code 896. Heathen comes in at 897. Followed by Atheist at 898 and lastly None with 899. It's not exactly a ringing endorsement though since the 800s come after every other religion, no matter how obscure, and 700 is used for all "other religions".

We reported in April about a worldwide attempt to get Jedi Knight accepted as a religion. It started out a daft idea but thanks to email and the Internet soon a whole army of budding Luke Skywalkers had joined in.

We spoke to the Home Office - which was not overly entertained especially since the Census is supposed to be deadly serious. However the Home Office would not say what constituted a religion and we subsequently discovered that while you can be heavily fined for putting down false details on a census form, it does not apply to the religion question.

With 95 per cent of census forms now received and scanning, coding and data capture due to be completed by August next year, we should know just how many official Jedi Knights there are in the UK by the end of 2002.

If you want to check out the full list of religions, download the relevant pdf file here and look on page 18. ®

isn't it possible that Christianity started out this way as well?

the story of a peaceful superman arrived during the time of the Romans. some people got so obsessed with the story that they decided to make a religion out of it

Nope. The story is much too detailed, the teachings & parables timeless, and the writers consistent with each other.

Most important of all - the prophecies spoken by Christ & John are coming to pass as we speak with unerring accuracy. BEWARE!!!

    hehehe

    which prophecies would those be?

and what's the diff of their "prophecies" with those of Nostradamus?

Sorry to burst your bubble, folks, but the "Jedi religion" census prank was a hoax.

Truth is, marking down "Jedi" isn't going to change a thing, least of all what officially gets considered a religion. The U.K.'s Office of National Statistics has confirmed the stunt will not work. "There won't be any coding for Jedi," a representative of the ONS said. "So it won't be called a religion even if 10,000 people do it." Besides, it is not up to the ONS to decide such a question. They may be an arm of the government, but it doesn't fall within their province to confer official status (whatever that might be) on a religion any more than it would be up to the Boy Scouts to designate New York City a national wildlife preserve.

The situation for hopeful Jedis in Australia is even more forbidding than it is in the U.K. Not only won't marking "Jedi" in the appropriate box gain official recognition for a non-existent religion, but the head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics census program, John Struik, has stated that anyone who falsely provides information on a census faces a $1,000 fine.

    it's all good

at least we can still discuss whether or not the christian religion started out with a similar trend

    Thumbs up To Brownpau

Yo, boss. I can see this thread going by the way of biblical prophecies. Maybe you can rename it as such.

I can even invite PaulDamascus to join us. Game na game sya para pagaralan ito.

Or maybe we should just create a new thread. What do you think?

Sorry sis, I gotta go. Be back after 10 hrs.

But first off the difference between Nostradamus & the bible is that biblical prophecies have not failed yet.

    Later...

Thanks Bro. Doc for inviting me here.

Kaya lang parang, hindi ko mai relate yung pa uumpisa ng Christianity to this JedI religion, kasi sabi ni boss brownpau eh hoax nga lang ito.

    But whirlled says:

"at least we can still discuss whether or not the christian religion started out with a similar trend"

    Question to everyone:

Papaano ba nag start ang totoong Christian Religion na sa Dios(Ang Bibliya ay nagtuturo na maraming bulaang propeta ang magsisilitaw) sa inyong nalalaman? Sino ang nagtatag nito?

    Post sneaked out of bed...

I know what you mean brod Paul. Gawa na lang tayo ng bago tutal malapit ng matapos tong project ko (2 or 3 more days).

Ano kayang title? How about "Biblical Studies: PROPHECY!!!"?
    O kaya "Prophecy study group"....hmmm.

Masaya to, challenging & very informational. I hope makasali si brod. abuGian.

    Babu!

I'd like to point out the word totoong. Given the so many denominations, orders and whathaveyous within Christianity, it would be quite debatable which one is actually the true version of Chrsitianity.

    please clarify

    thanks

Can you perhaps continue the discussion on Biblical prophecy in another thread? It's easy enough to open a new topic on it.

Hmmnn. I have the same thoughts as Whirrled about the possibility that our current religions may have started the same way (started by fanatics). Profitable din sila tulad ng Star Wars universe di ba? The bible stories should be detailed to be convincing since they don't have the film recorder yet

Who can say a 1-10,000 years from now. Maybe man may have developed Jedi tricks. (Gusto ko 'yung mga characters sa Tales of the Jedi, 4000 years before Luke Skywalker was born / writtten by Tom Veitch... sina Ulic Qel-Droma, Exar Kun, Master Thon.. tama ba?)

Live long and prosper! (buti na lang walang religion ang United Federation of Sentient Planets)
