Question If PCs are more powerful than consoles...

Bakit wala pang Tekken sa PC. Or Time Crisis or DOA2.

I will soon be investing on a new PC to replace my 2 yr. old PII 400 (which I use mainly for home computing /surfing) with a system built around a P4 1.7 GHz / Asus P4B / ATI Radeon LE mainly for viewing dvds and I was told that It can also be a great gaming system.

But I just can't see myself playing games on a pc. Anybody on the same boat as me?

If gagamitin mo lang yung pc mo for watching dvds, baket hindi ka nalang bumili ng dvd player? tapos yung extra cash mo, pwede mong ipambili ng home sound system*?

    * i don't wanna say theater dahil it'll cast you atleast 200,000.. hehe...

this issue is getting kind of moronic.

ba't walang fallout 1 and 2 sa playstation? ba't walang Bg1, Bg2, at throne of bhaal?

ba't walang COUNTERSTRIKE para sa PS?

Coz its still awkward to play Fighting games sa PC. And game creators know that kaya they dont usually dont port fighting games sa PC. Get a console if you want to play fighting games.. or.. go play in the arcade..

I have 2 standalone dvd players + a dvd-rom and my home theater cost US$10,000 (relatively cheap) so there. Click this link if you care to see my HT

The reason I need a pc for dvd playback is that its infinitely better than standalone if you get the right components esp. when combined with a front projector (since software dvd playback can match the native resolution of the projector pixel for pixel).
My friend bought this $6000 front projector Sony VPL-W11HT and only a PC based hometheater can take advantage of its native resolution (until high def. DVD replaces the current NTSC DVD)

What I'm saying is that if PCs are that powerful, why can't they attract software developers to port their games that made the console games a $6,000,000,000 industry (could be more if not for piracy).

    Ka-ching!!!!

pc are more powerful than a console.. icompare mo *** specs ng ps2 sa isang maganda na pc... mas malakas ang pc pa kaysa sa ps2.

the reason they dont port probably, is hindi appealing ang isang fighting game sa pc... gagastos ka ba talaga ng isang pc kung ang gagawin mo lang e maglaro ng fighting game???

IC.. Personally i still hate projector TVs, they're still nowhere as clear as normal TVs.. for 6000 US, get a 40" XBR Wega. It supports upto 1080p (or is it 980p..) anyways.. I think what you want to replace is your DVD player..

I don't think that your DVD player has a component cable out. Because i have never heard anything about needing a PC to access high resolution on TVs.

The FPTV I'm looking at accepts RGBHV (from PC) and YPbPr (either from interlaced or progressive scan DVD players or HDTV set-top boxes).

And my current 36 inch 16:9 Sony HDTV accepts all the above signals but its quite small (hence the need for a front projector). Even if your TV doesn't have RGB input, you can but a RGB to component converter (Hey, if you have a Dreamcast, you can try this on your TV). I watch mostly in widescreen so the 40 inch 4:3 Wega doesn't make sense (most TVs here in Japan are widescreen). The projector I'm talking about can put out 120 inch easily (can't wait to play Gran Turismo 3 or NBA2K1 or 2 in that)

I tried some of the KOF , SF, RE and TR games in PC but the experience was so awful I didn't try it again. Plus I want instant gratification when playing games so maybe when it takes 30 seconds to load windows, I'll try again.

Off to buy Time Crisis 2/Guncon 2 to release some stress.

no no.. you're confusing NORMAL wega to XBR wega... The price difference between the two is.. well... double..

Sa manila, all they're selling is "trinitron wega," bascially a cheap *** version of the XBR Wega..

Mr. Greatbop - hello! Houston to Greatbop! Your link is for a standard TV not a widescreen TV. Educate yourself by reading this link

I know what the difference between a Wega and the XBR and Sony and the rest of these consumer electronic companies should be shot in the knee for not rolling out 16:9 TVs which are standard in Japan and Europe. The particular TV in my set-up was introduced in the U.S. for an unbelievable price of US$9000 but it only cost half of that here. The reason is that 16:9 tubes are still quite expensive to make and the link in your post is a 4:3 tube made in Mexico. I should know because this is my main hobby (console gaming is secondary).

Sheesh... you thought just because its XBR its actually better? Sony US is selling you obsolete technology and you don't know it. 4:3 TV sets are going the way of the dinosaur because HDTV programming standard is 16:9

wha?!? i'm lost. what's this thread all about again? hehehehe
i sure wish that i'm as tech-savvy as you guys... but then again, i really don't have the money to buy the latest techonology so it wouldn't matter.

back to the topic. i've never seen a good fighting game for the PC. nor a good wrestling game. nor a good peripheral-based game (there is no lightgun for the PC, right?). yes, the PC is faster but for some reason, some games are simply meant for consoles. but the same is not vice-versa since consoles are becoming more and more... well... like a PC. i'm just a casual gamer and sometimes, i just take things the way they are. it's more simple that way. plus, i get to enjoy my games without wondering why Project Justice is not out for the PC.

Weapon X's question is really moot. if you can afford a brand new PC and all that stuff that you were talkin about, then why would you care kung walang Tekken sa PC? If i was in your shoes, I'd buy a PS2. problem solved.

Because the PC is not custom made for playing games like consoles are.

Ok, if console graphics are so much better than PCs, than why can't I do my video editing on a console? Get my point?

ah... but the PC is a more versatile machine.

if a pc can play a game like baldur's gate, (which requires so much memory, etc) why can't it play a decent Street Fighter? that's the question.

Way ahead of you. I bought a PS2 a month after the Japanese launch and still keep a SNES, Saturn and DC for some games (you can see this in my HT pic above - inside the TV rack for PS2 and DC and SNES/PS1 below the ampliers etc).

Someone may have answered the original question already i.e. that PCs (even a 2 GHz P4 with GF3) are not solely made for gaming and therefore will almost always be beat by any console even by the lowly SNES (name one game that is as fun and engaging as Super Metroid). 100% gaming equals 100% fun - provided you have the right game.

believ in the power of the pc.. and ask ppl from gaming company to make their cds plug and play... so you dont need to install anyting.. astig kaya yun.. pag plug ang play na lang!!! a PC like a console.. yan ang maganda!!

ah, but that's not the case. PCs almost always beat consoles when it comes to games, ngayon na lang nakakahabol ang consoles. there is no decent turn-based strategy on consoles. also, there is no great RTS on consoles. console RPGs are always linear as opposed to larger than life PC RPGs such as Asheron's Call and Ultima Online. And what about Majestic? Yes, the console is designed solely for gaming, but can it do a game with the grandeur of Majestic?

so, to reiterate, the argument that consoles can provide better games simply because they are tailor-made for gaming is flawed. in some genres, yes, consoles are better. but not always.

Is that what you mean... those 16:9 tvs are crap right now, IMO. they stretch the picture to some very umproportionate sizes. HDTV's aren't gonna catch on until a few more years from now. Plus mga XBR wega can support 16:9.. letter boxed lang though.. but hell i'm so used to it that i don't even care.

Plus they're still not TVs, and projector TVs are still crap in my opinion..
