It's Showtime on ABS-CBN has been beating biggest noontime rival Eat Bulaga this past few weeks. In fact, in the recent data provided by Kantar Media, It's Showtime gained a national TV rating of 13.7%, beating Eat Bulaga on GMA Network with 12.4%. As they said, It's Showtime is changing the face of Philippine noontime.
It's Showtime is a modern noontime program. It's not the typical pinoy entertainment show that we are used to, like Eat Bulaga, Magandang Tanghali Bayan, or Wowowee. It's Showtime is the noontime show of the new generation. No wonder why most of its viewers are from the young ones to young adults simply because it is consists of fresh and in demand celebrities of today like Vhong Navarro, Karylle, Billy Crawford and Anne Curtis.
The show gives a different spice of laughter very unlike to the lousy or "corny" Pinoy taste. Popular stage performer and comedian Vice Ganda became an instant household name after taking a judging and hosting stint in the show because of his stand-up routines, for which he uses observational comedy, situational irony and sarcasm in pertaining to Filipino culture and human sexuality.
Although the show presents the typical noontime show segments similar to how Eat Bulaga, MTB or Wowowee did it, the hosts provides a unique way of showing their abilities as presentors. For example, when dancer-comedian Vhong Navarro and former child wonder Billy Crawford impresses the public with their sexy dance moves as introduction to one particular segment which has already became a signature act on the show. Or when a serious drama actress and commercial endorser Anne Curtis brings out her bubbly and crazy personality as a host. Also, her frustration of being a singer in the show leads her to a sold out concert in Araneta Coliseum. And who would forget whenever Vice Ganda crack jokes to the audiences and even to his co-presentors which has been most people's source of laughter.
It's Showtime is somehow different from it's current rivals Eat Bulaga and Wowowillie (TV 5), or even from its predecessors Sang Linggo Na Po, MTB, Wowowee, to name a few. It is what began as a search for the country’s most entertaining acts two years ago turned out to be a hit variety program that launched a thousand trends for Filipinos here and abroad. The show has, in its own way, established itself as its own and different brand of entertainment thriving on spontaneity and animated conversations. It is becoming more fun in as it keeps churning out popular catchphrases and gimmicks, draws people and community together to showcase their talents, and finds thrill and joy in the most mundane situations. And with hosts Anne, Vhong, Karylle, Billy and Vice along with Jhong, Jugs, Teddy, Erruption, Ryan, Colleen and Kuya Kim whose camaraderie, spontaneity, talents, and shared sense of humor have brought joy to millions of viewers all over the world.
