i also tried, i tried really, but to no avail.
I only love Math per se when I understand the subject ( I like Discrete Mathemathics for one), but when it comes to the hradcore math stuff -- Calculus esp., it tends to turn me off... the key to loving Math is studying it -- cuz I did quite ok in my Calculus 2 because I really tried learning the subject -- but guess what I am back into my dark days -- I hate my Calculus 4. |

I love math, though I didn't excel in school. (See Realm of Thought topics on that.) I don't think you should excel in terms of grades either - what's important is you understand the stuff. Calculus, for instance, was fun for me since I could really see the application.
Oh, and I think the teacher is also a big influence. Unfortunately. |

whether you love it or not, you must be challenged by all means... i love math since first year high school. i didnt fail for once... you just have to think really hard for every new topic... like now, we're in circles and i'm not so good in giving statements and reasons for the theorems but i still love it. u just hav to be interested with the subject cause if in the first place you're not interested then you'll just hate it... be a real enthusiast...

you don't have to worry about the foundation of math you had in high school.. i think itinuturo naman yan uli sa college eh... and with the poor foundation i guess if you really want to excel then you have to put in extra effort to study and solve... the key to math talaga is understand it. Dont leave the room an hindi mo naintindihan *** lesson. Ask pag di mo gets. then practice solving *** mga exercises. Do it then solve ka na for your test! oki ba? =) Got to love and be interested in somthing if you really want to learn it!
Cia ciao! |

It's harder if you have problems with the basics in Math. That's why a solid background in high school Math is a plus. But even that should not get in the way of excelling in Math in college. As hello_kitty416 said, it will take extra effort to compensate for the weak foundation. It's difficult, yes, but not impossible. Just remember that familiarity with the problems in Math is an important factor. So solve as many problems as you can and make sure that you understand the solutions. Otherwise you defeat the purpose of solving them.

Basically, all you have to do is listen and understand...that's what I do!!!
I never study for my math exams... siguro browse lang and that's it!.. para lang ma-refresh memory ko! Kung self study kasi... well, it's kinda hard u know.. minsan kasi nakakatakot yung numbers! hehehe... It's pretty hard just trying to understand the damn thing just by staring at the book and not knowing how it works. getz? So I suggest that you listen and understand... oh, and one more thing... do some drills about the lesson and in time, you'll find out that the whole thing is easy... piece of cake!!! ![]() |

hi...i'm a BS Math graduate and to tell you honestly,it was never my plan to take the course..kumbaga napilitan lang
prior to entering college, i was really planning to take CS pero sobrang na-convince ako ng department chairman ng Math and CS dept.pero in the long run...i liked the course and i found out that you just need be interested with the subject and wag kang ma-pressure sa mga exams...you know what exams seem to get easier kapag inisip mo lang na nakikipaglaro ka sa mga numbers or sa mga theorems and to do that further, you also have to be practicing the stuffs kung iisipin mo nga mas madali ang math compared to other subjects kasi you get to memorize less ![]() have fun with math ![]() |

to like math, i think you should have a more general view of each of the lessons. the more you understand how each of these formulas are used in a general sense, the more you will be able to really understand what it's all about. most of the time, we just learn math through the memorization of certain formulas and stuff but do not even care about how these really work. what i'm saying is try to research a bit on the history of the particular lesson you are trying to learn. try to know who made, why, and how these formulas came about in the first place. try to make a clear picture of the story behind these formulas and derivations. when you do this, the more chances you are going to like the subject because you really understand the subject.
but of course sometimes, we like math just because we like/enjoy solving a particular kind/type of problem. |

nothing really beats a very good teacher!
i loved math because i was inspired by my math teachers way back in my grade school days. i also had a lot of exposure for mathematics like quiz bowls, contests, the Phil. Math Olympiad, etc. that's how i loved math. |

I'm not much of a fan of math, wither. My father was a MBA prof. He was my persistent tutor since I was in grade school. However, when he passed away, I had no one to teach me Math. I had to study alone. No one was, even now, is a master of that subject. So I tried my best to learn the subject. In the process of learning, I discovered something of myself, too. I learned that I love taking on hard things to figure that's why I got hooked on math. I still don't know a lot about it. I work in a bank call center. Computing & analysing numbers is a part of my work. Don't pressure yourself in loving math & at the same time excelling in the subject. Learn the subject slowly but surely. Of course, location, location, location. Find a conducive place in learning math. Detach yourself with the idea of loving math & excelling in it. You'll be surprised at your logical & analytical skills afterwards. Have fun learning.

This year's 1st prize winner in the English Essay category of the Palanca Awards for Literature has to do with Math. It's an inspiring piece entitled "Cogito Ergo Sum or What I know for sure I learned from Mathematics." For all you math haters out there, I suggest you go look it up for answers.

When I first read the title, I thought it meant -- "How to Love Math" and "How to love Excel the spreadsheet program".

i love math! perhaps because i understood it and realized how important it is for me. i guess the primary thing for you to love it is to know its relevance in your everyday life... and once you fall for it, you will no longer be eyeing on the grades your teacher would give but on the learning you will have... goodluck!
