Nice finale for the coveted cup. Both teams bleed teamwork and hardwork; two teams which didn't tweak that much of their past season's lineup; two well-coached team -- one gunning for his first allFilipino, the other aiming for a third straight diamond for the franchise.
Hard pick though.
But still, Rain or Shine in 7 games.
Norman Black and Yeng Guiao have faced off only once in the Finals in their respective PBA careers. This was in the 1993 Governor's Cup, when Black was still coaching SMB while Guiao was handling Swift. SMB beat Swift in that series that saw import Kenny Travis beat the Mighty Meaties' super import Tony Harris...
ROS in 6
off topic: bakit po ba nawala si black sa smc camp? diba sya yung coach nung time na nag grandslam yung beermen. what happen?
Danding Cojuangco took back the SMC conglomerate, brought back Ron Jacobs with him. Norman Black was more closely associated with the former SMC owner, Andres Soriano, III.
With Jacobs back, Black became expendable and was released where he coached teams like Mobiline, Pop Cola and Sta. Lucia.
Andy Jao vs. Norman Black
Third time's the charm vs. sustained excellence
Rain or Shine in 6 or Talk N Text in 7.
Sino kaya ang mas nakakaramdam ng pressure?si coach Yeng aiming for his first AFC championship while Norman Black wants to prove that TnT made the right choice.
Tagal ng hindi underdog ang TnT ah,feeling ko kasi with the coaching change sila ang dehado sa championship.
kaya, RoS in 6 games.
TNT in 5, bet ko talga ang team na to.. napaka lakas at determined manalo.. at mahihirapan ang ros dito dahil di naman mga tamad makakalaban nila..
Guiao fires first salvo: Longer Finals series favors Rain or Shine
RAIN or Shine coach Yeng Guiao shot the first warning upon learning it will be defending champion Talk `N Text which his team will meet in the Finals of the PBA Philippine Cup.
“Pag hindi nila kami tinapos ng maaga... delikado sila sa amin,” said Guiao moments after the Tropang Texters bundled out the Alaska Aces in their semis series to forge a championship showdown with the Elasto Painters.
The reigning champion, gunning to become the first team to win the Jun Bernardino Perpetual Trophy with a third straight All-Filipino title within the horizon, beat the Aces in Friday night’s Game 6, 83-78, to end the best-of-seven series, 4-2.
But it didn’t escape the attention of Guiao that the Tropang Texters had been to too many Finals appearances in the last two seasons, making them vulnerable to an expected physical title series against one of the toughest defending teams in the PBA today.
“Tingin ko `yung apat na araw na break, mapapahinga `yung Talk n’ Text, pero pagpasok ng Game 5, dun pa lang nila mararamdaman ang pagod. At dun kami magka-capitalize,” said the ever outspoken Guiao, who was with his townfolks and local mediamen in Pampanga’s first district while watching the Talk `N Text-Alaska game on television.
“The more na humaba ang series na ito, the more na pabor sa amin,” stressed the Rain or Shine mentor, whose coaching savvy has caught the fancy of Filipino basketball fans.
The six-time champion coach believes the backcourt match-up will be the main key in the best-of-seven Finals, but did not rule out the obvious advantage Talk `N Text have in the frontcourt.
While Guiao believes Rain or Shine can match up well with the guards of Talk n’ Text, he said plans will be devised to respond expected disadvantage his team will have in the paint.
“Kailangan matapatan namin `yung laki at bilis ng mga big men nila. That’s the key for us,” said Guiao. “This is going to be an exciting series!”
Hard to pick. I want ROS to win the championship though. Mas nakikita ko ang hunger sa laro nila. This will be a classic one. Cliche. Parehong pisikal maglaro, reliable PGs, athletic wingmen, strong bigs. ROS in 6 or TNT in 7 (experience ang magpapanalo sa kanila dito incase).
RoS in 6 or 7. No to TnT getting the Perpetual Trophy
and yes to Yeng getting his AFC.
Tagal pa kasi ng next conference eh, nasa Kangkungan pa rin kami.
this will be a shootout, at the same time matinding pisikalan sa depensa...
ROS ako in 7
Ser JPM, buti naman at mod kayo dito... member din ako dati sa mypba.com..would you know kung nandito din sa PEX sila Atty POF, Randy etc... nice read talaga pag *** mga nagpo-post
ROS ulit in 7..
both teams has a run and gun type of plays, has a lot of shooters, both big men can hit from the outside, parehong malalaki ang puso ng mga players. parehong multi-titled coach. TNT might have the advantage in terms of experience and maturity but Ros's young players can be a factor in winning the series. Ros in game 7.
