MANILA, Philippines - Actress Carla Abellana is one of a few young celebrities who — despite coming from a lineage of actors — has managed to keep her life fairly quiet and scandal-free.

Her grandmother is the legendary actress Delia Razon, and her father is the '80s heartthrob Rey "PJ" Abellana.

She broke into showbusiness quite late, at 22, when she bagged the lead role in the GMA 7 remake of the Thalia telenovela hit, Rosalinda, in 2009.

Unknown to many, before that, Carla auditioned for a role to be one of the 3 leading ladies of Richard Gutierrez in Zorro.

Rappler chatted with the young actress who told us that it took her current boyfriend, Geoff Eigenmann, one year to make her give him her "yes."

Rappler: How has joining showbusiness affected your personal life?

Carla: It was very difficult when I was starting (in 2009, she and Ateneo basketball player JC Intal were then an item). It was hard for him to understand how the industry worked. It got to the point where I had to choose between work and personal life.

How are you and Geoff doing?

It’s easier because we're in the same industry. He understands how things go. We were good friends before he courted me for a year. He won my confidence. For me, he was a co-actor; but his effort and perseverance to win me over paid off.

Who are the actors you look up to?

My grandmother. Until now, at her age, her reputation is untarnished.

I also look up to veterans like Ate Regine (Velasquez) and Kuya Ogie (Alcasid). The ones who have been in the industry the longest are also the nicest. They're a real inspiration.

Not saying ‘I do’ soon

Asked if she and boyfriend Geoff Eigenmann have wedding plans already considering that they’re on for three years now, Carla Abellana says: “As of now, we haven’t considered that yet. Personally, before we could even touch on that topic, I would rather prepare for it first.”

The pretty actress reveals that on her part, she has already started.

“I save a lot. I put my earnings in good investments. And of course, the welfare of my family is on top of my list at this point. I want to give them only the best.”

After the highly successful Makapiling Kang Muli opposite Richard Gutierrez, the be-dimpled star is waiting for her next big project.

“From what I heard, we’ll start taping this December and the airing will be on February of 2013. I’m excited because it’s also a huge production. I just can’t reveal right now. But it’s a fantasy-drama.”

Any hint as to her screen partner this time?

“That I don’t have any idea about. I heard two names but they’re not final yet. Let’s just wait for GMA’s official announcement,” Carla states.

Iyong isa may caption na “Pacquiao doing the lean with Michael Jackson..Classinf moment.” Isinali pa ng mokong si MJ, lagot siya sa fans nito. Iyong isa, ginamit naman ang Disney character na si Simba bilang baby lion na ginigising si Pacquiao at may caption na “Dad wake up.”

Hindi busy si Bieber ‘no! Nakakagawa pa ng kalokuhan? May nagsabing big fan ni Floyd Mayweather Jr. si Canadian Bieber kaya ganun na lang kung insultuhin si Pacquiao. By now, naramdaman na nito ang hagupit ng galit ng mga Pinoy. Nag-i-enjoy kaming basahin ang mga comment. Hahaha!

Heto pala ang reaction ni Maxene Magalona: “As a role model to the youth,@justinbieber should show how to admire an idol without having to belittle his competition. #respect.”

Reaction ni Jennica: “@justinbieber you know how it feels to be hated on & yet you post photos to make fun of someone who is at his lowest. When your haters attack you, Filipino beliebers wouldn’t think twice about depending you. Its so sad, I thought you were so much more that this.”

Sabi ni Sarah: “Justin Bieber indirectly insulting Pacquiao. I’d like to see him get in the right and fight him.Tsk..hindi nako natutuwa kay Bieber.”

Ayon naman kay Carla: ”Justin Bieber don’t make fun of a man who has a whole nation to catch his fall and back him up. No more Filipino fans for you.”

Mabuti na lang at hindi namin gusto si Justin Bieber, baby, baby. Baby noooo! Ang alam namin, may Fil-Am na composer sa isang hit song niya.

A House Bill is now at the Congress filed by Congresswoman Bernadette Herrera-Dy of the Bagong Henerasyon Party List to amend the Animal Welfare Act (or Republic Act 8485) and increase penalties for those who have committed acts of cruelty to animals.

Welcome the New Year with GMA-7's 'Win na Win sa 2013'

Join the Kapuso network on December 31, 2012 as it ushers in positive energy and good vibes for the coming year through Win na Win sa 2013. It is not just a celebration of the network's success in 2012 but will also be a showcase of different skills and talents. This two-hour New Year countdown special will also serve as a launchpad of the network's newest shows and freshest faces.

The celebration starts with light show using up-to-date laser technology. Some of the most talented Kapuso stars will also join the opening number, including Mark Herras, Glaiza de Castro, Julie Anne San Jose, Mark Bautista, Jaya, Jake Vargas, Bea Binene, Alden Richards, Louise delos Reyes, Aljur Abrenica, with the special participation of Gloc-9.

The showdown will actually happen via various segments throughout the night. There will be four categories: Stand Up Comedy, which is open to all solo or duo comedians; Dance-Off, for pairs or groups; Sing-Off, for singers of all ages; and 60 Seconds of Fame, which is open to all Kapuso wannabes who can show off an extraordinary talent or skill in one minute.

Contestants were pre-selected through a series of auditions and will be given two minutes each to perform. Five to ten semi-finalists will be chosen from each category before the live show, and will then compete on December 31.

The top two finalists will go head to head in an Ultimate Showdown during the show, in a production number led by a Kapuso artist. Winners will be announced on the dawn of January 1, 2013.

Before the numeric countdown to 2013, the Sayaw Pilipinas group, Protege finalists, Teen Gen cast, and GMA's newest artists will lead a two-minute number. Also watch out for an "Oppa Gangnam Style" flash mob, which will help introduce a new Kapuso dance craze choreographed by the living dance legend, Ms. Geleen Eugenio.

Also highlighted in this New Year special are the upcoming shows of GMA in 2013, as well as love and career predictions for your favorite Kapuso artists.

Hosted by Geoff Eigenmann, Carla Abellana, Mikael Daez, and Andrea Torres, Win na Win sa 2013 will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Seaside Boulevard, Pasay City on December 31, 2012, at 10:30 p.m. and will also be broadcast live on GMA-7. Be part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration!
