by Jocelyn Dimaculangan posted on July 28, 2013, PEP.PH
The Filipino film OTJ (On the Job) won two major awards in the 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Fest held recently in South Korea.
Joel Torre personally received his Best Actor trophy during the July 26 awards night of the 17th Pichon IFFF. In the film, Joel is cast as a veteran assassin called Tatang.
Directed by Erik Matti, OTJ also bagged the Jury's Choice Prize.
The Hollywood Reporter describes OTJ as a "dark hitman drama" while a review on Variety described the movie as "a gritty, convoluted but steadily engrossing crime thriller from Filipino genre maven Erik Matti."
Justin Chang's review on Variety also described Joel Torre as a "middle-aged assassin Tatang [who] initiates young thug Daniel (Filipino-American actor Gerald Anderson) into the ruthlessness of their particular trade."
OTJ was one of the 12 films included in the Puchon Choice or the official competition section. The said category also featured The Paperboy, a crime thriller starring Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, John Cusack.
The other winners in the Puchon Choice: Feature category are as follows: Sightseers (Best of Puchon); Anurag Kashyap of Ugly (Best Director); Alice Lowe of Sightseers (Best Actress) and Secretly Greatly (NH Nonghyup Citizen’s Choice).
Last May, OTJ made its world premiere during the 66th Cannes Film Fest. (Read: Piolo Pascual and Gerald Anderson-starrer, OTJ, receives standing ovation in Cannes)

Philippines has bagged two major awards at the 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) held recently in South Korea.
Erik Matti’s “On the Job (OTJ)” copped the Best Actor award for one of its stars Joel Torre while the film itself won the Jury’s Choice prize.
“OTJ” competed in the Puchon Choice: Feature category that was “looking for something fresh, innovative, and genre-centered” films.
Other winners in the category are Ben Wheatley’s “Sightseers” (Best of Puchon), Anurag Kashyap of “Ugly” (Best Director), Alice Lowe of “Sightseers” (Best Actress), and “Secretly Greatly” (NH Nonghyup Citizen’s Choice).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this year’s jury for the Puchon Choice: Feature (also called PiFan competition) included Singapore director Eric Khoo, Japanese filmmaker Shinji Higuchi, Directors’ Fortnight programmer Benjamin Illos, South Korean producer Choi Yong-hae and Paris-based actor Brontis Jodorowsky.
“OTJ” stars Piolo Pascual, an NBI agent who aims to hunt down a professional hitman, played by Gerald Anderson. Torre is veteran assassin Mario a.k.a Tatang.
The crime-thriller, co-produced by Star Cinema and Reality Entertainment, was also well received at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival in France (Directors’ Fortnight section). Prior, it was reported that Well Go USA Entertainment, a US film distribution company obtained rights for “OTJ.”

Ang pelikulang On The Job ay pinagbibidahan nila Piolo Pascual at Gerald Anderson. Ni-review nga sa Variety magazine ng senior film critic na si Justin Chang ang On The Job at sinabi nga niyang na isa itong “gritty, convoluted but steadily engrossing crime thriller”.
Samantala, ang British reviewer naman na si Neil Young ng Hollywood Reporter ay tinawag itong “a likably rough-edged hitmen-vs.-cops thriller from the Philippines that ranks among Cannes 2013’s more straightforwardly commercial world premieres.”
Na-pick up ng North American distribution na Well Go USA ang On The Job at magkakaroon ito ng Fall release sa US.
Ang tinatawag nga na FantasticFest ay ang largest genre film festival in the US na nagpapalabas ng mga horror, fantasy, sci-fi and action film from around the world.
Kasama nga rin sa cast ng On The Job ay sina Shaina Magdayao, Empress Schuck, Rayver Cruz, Angel Aquino, Vivian Velez, Joey Marquez, Leo Martinez, Michael de Mesa, Al Tantay at Niño Muhlach.
Produced ito ng Reality Entertainment and ire-release ng Star Cinema on August 28.
