I wasn't able to watch this game but I would have to agree that Norbert isn't playing well this year. However, I wouldn't say he's not good either. He played well last year, was often fouled in the paint. Maybe it's the system. Like this year, coach Abanilla isn't using Dela Paz who played big last year and even Vosotross. Although Almond has been given more playing time in their recently.
With AVO, he's only showing some promise in his recent games but at the start of the season he's the same as Norbert. He's always on foul trouble.
Good thing they have the very underrated but talented player in Andrada. This guy is very smart.
Question though, did Marata use up all his playing years or was he axed from the team?
Ang hirap kay Norbert, nasupal lang ni Betayene natakot na at puro jumpshot na ginawa at least keep on attacking and try to fish for fouls, Mr. Bear.
Maybe he was nicknamed "The Bear" because he steals other people's baon in school. eh-he-he-he-heyyy
Ano na nangyari kay Joshua Webb? Parang di ko na siya nakikitang naglalaro.![]()
NU wanted it more than DLSU. NU prepared for it. NU did everything to win the game so they did get the win and positioned themselves better in the Final Four race compared to DLSU.
I agree that poor officiating occurred, but nevertheless NU outclassed DLSU anyway.
A monster center is the missing link of the La Salle team. As long as the team has no star center, the other teams with imports will always have an advantage. The difficult thing about this, is that it's extremely difficult to find one.
It's already hard to find a tall guy, what more a guy with shooting ability. Slaughter was a rare find and even La Salle admitted that they were just extremely lucky to find Maierhoffer.
^ but the problem really is that DLSU shouldn't be too predictable. palaging ang unang bigay ng bola ay sa big man tapos kapag hindi na gumagana, isolation play kay Teng, na kapag hindi gumana ay pilitin na lang itira galing sa labas kahit na inconsistent ang shooters. even if DLSU has a very good center, if the system remains predictable, balewala pa din.
dito din lumabas na may kulang pa din sa coaching ni Limpot. madaling ma-intimidate ang big men ng DLSU kapag mas physical ang kalaban. takot pumoste at makipagbanggaan sa ilalim ang big men ng DLSU, which seems to be reflective of how Limpot was like during his playing years (between him and Noli Locsin, Locsin was a better low post operator because he knew how to take advantage of his size and assert himself against opponents).
kahit naman gaano kagaling ang skills coach ng isang team, kung wala namang talent, bball iq, and puso yung player, matangkad lang. wala rin. example dyan sina feihl, marlou aquino, samigue eman, alex araneta, japeh aguilar, etc.
anong balita dun sa import/fil-am ng DLSU? the guy who always stays behind the bench every games, is he eligible next year? hinde si joe ward ah bwahaha!![]()
The Bear was useless during the game. Grabe lang.
Laki-laking tao di magamit ng maayos ang katawan.
From what I saw, Norbert Torres tried to operate inside but he had a hard time matching up against Betayene and his 7'+ wingspan.
What was impressive IMO for NU is there non reliance with Mbe. Khobuntin also did a good job defending Teng which is not that hard because he ALWAYS drive with his right hand. He has only two moves. Drive with his left then cross over to his right or he drive strong to his right then make a quick spin to his left.
One thing I noticed din was that the DLSU team is super dependent to Teng (except Revilla).
Parang if you remove Teng in the floor. Wala na. Bokya na.

I can't help but wonder why it took this long for Altamirano to insert Khobuntin in the rotation. Before this game mga 5mpg lang sya and from what I saw last game, he's a pretty decent defender (guarded Teng quite well) and he can drive to the basket pretty well. Buti nalang coach Eric made good adjustments in this game.
btw, favorite sequences from the game:
- Oda Tampus' reverse layup
- Parks' steal and dunk on the other end
- Betayene's rejection on Andrada
- Parks' "shooter's bounce" 3 pointer and an answer 3 from Vosotros
