top 5 most hyped rookies and top 5 sleepers in 2012

    top 5 hyped rookies.

1.calvin abueva - malakas sa college. pero sa pba may ibubuga ba? with a 6'2 height and a short wing span we dont know if he can excel in the pba. we all know that this guy is all heart in the college ball, which in the pba a systematic and organized teams will he benefit? not seen yet.

2.chris tiu- hyped because of his stint in gilas and popularity.

3.fajardo- we dont know yet how he can end up in the pba. maybe the 2nd version of eman, or if papalarin next taulava.

4.mallari - hyped or not. hes good.

5.jensen- im not sold with this player. sure mas may ok pa na 2nd rounder dito pag napunta to sa 1st round.

    top 5 sleepers.

1.cliff hodge - sleepy eyes, not hyped by media, tahimik lang but will explode in a second once he plays in any pba teams, rebounds, hustle, blocks , steals. anything you ask for a big guy this is the perfect compensation for your star studded guards.

2.chris ellis- i dont think i heard this guy anyone from the media hyping him from the tius or the abuevas of the draft pool. this guy is TALENTED. with a talent and gifted pull up jumpers and hops. this guy is the next super star in the pba.

3.ronald pascual - i dont hear this guy in the 1st round, but once you watched him from his college ball at 6'3 this guy can shoot deadly from three and with hops this guy is so athletic.

4.aldrech ramos - dont heard this guy much but what i knew this guy is a deadly shooter from three and for a bigman has a HIGH IQ which we rarely see from a big guy, a good passer, definitely a team guy, any team with a systematic plays will benefit from this guy.

5.kelly nabong - we dont hear this often but this guy is the dark horse of this draft pool

I agrre with yo on most of your selection, particularly Fajardo and Abueva as overhype players.

It' true that Abueva is called THE BEAST in collegiate basketball, but i don't think the guys from the PBA gives a SH*T what they are calling him right now. When he steps finally in the hardcourt of the PBA, he has a good chance that he will experience a rude awakening. He plays a 4 and with his height of 6'2 or 6'3. It's going to be tough if he can still just muscle his way against an opposing player in the PBA, a thing that seems a breeze for him to do in the amateur rank.

Fajardo is also an over-hype player. He has the potential, but he is untested. His supporters keep on harping that he regularly scores 50 points in most games of his collegiate career. But this is against unknown, 6'3 ar 6'2 guarding him. Still i am excited to see this guy play in the PBA. One thing im sure is that the other teams won't be gentle on this player. They hid this player and personally i think they really pampered him with the idea that he will dominate the other players once he step in the PBA. ......Unfortunately the other players again don't give a SH*T .

    top 5 most hyped:

    5. chris tiu

i'm sorry but to rank a player high just because he is marketable is so lame. if not for the mvp and ateneo connections this guy wouldn't have been part of the original SMART Gilas. let's call a spade a spade, tiu's game is for college basketball only, his game has never progressed beyond that.

    top 5 sleepers:

    1. dave marcelo - very physical and this guy does not hesitate to mix it up inside the paint though lack of a go to move on offense may make PBA teams think twice. ideal back-up center for any PBA team.

    2. ronald pascual - considered a sleeper due to health reasons, but health concerns aside this guy has all the tools to be a star in the PBA.

    3. janus lozada - solid defender and above average shooter, being a star will be a stretch since it seems he has already reached his potential, but will be a solid contributor to any team right off the bat.

    4. vic manuel - the truest undersized power forward in the draft. i think he's a late first rounder to early second rounder only because teams may have second thoughts on whether or not he'll be as effective against bigger players in the PBA.

    5. jr cawaling - his so-so performance during last year's uaap season (prior to his injury) might have turned off PBA teams, still cawaling is a legit 6'4 who can play the wing position and at one point in his career showed the ability to do everything from bringing up the ball, shooting, scoring and defending. he can be an effective role player in the PBA.

Post-college, Tiu was never known for his talent. His true value to Smart Gilas was his superior basketball IQ, leadership qualities, and his underrated defense. I don't think coach Rajko, a foreign coach with no previous knowledge or connection of the Philippines, would trust him that much if his game was just suited for college ball.

If teams should pick him, I don't think they would bank on his talent. Every PBA coach knows this. I wouldn't go as far as calling him over-hyped. No one has said that he will be the heart and soul of a franchise ala James Yap or Jimmy Alapag. The only reason why he is ranked so high in mock drafts is because Petron (looking for a role player who can afford on passing up on stars) and Meralco (looking for a point guard in a point guard starved draft) are picking early. No one will draft him to be their savior. They just need him to be the final piece of the puzzle.

If Tiu declared last year, he wouldn't be picked before the likes of Casio, Lee, Lutz, and Lassiter. There's even a good chance that Baracael, Barroca, or Ababou would be picked ahead of this guy. Tiu just joined the draft at the right time.

I agree with mememon. Marcelo, Pascual, and Vic Manuel are indeed sleepers. My other two sleepers would be Kelly Nabong and Aldrech Ramos.

Nabong is an energy guy with good size, athleticism, and toughness. Unknown to most (if not all) prior to his D-league stint.

Aldrech Ramos is under the radar right now due to his forgettable performance with the Patriots. However, it should be noted that he was playing with 2 other imports in his team and he was usually matched up with other team's imports. Back in college, he was a good rebounder and shot-blocker with a decent outside shot. He could survive in the PBA if drafted to the right team and if he bulks up. He could be a Larry Rodriguez type.

Honorable Mentions: Allan Mangahas, Yousef Taha

In my own opinion Chris Tiu is not overrated, simply because
every team in the PBA knows what they will be getting if they ever drafted Chris Tiu.

They won't expect an impact player, but what they will getting is an A-LIST celebrity and practically a basketball player that is a household name already.

That is why i think Alaska will actually draft him. Just look at their commercial, they are using L.A Tenorio as their image model for Gatorade and Milk products.I wonder how effective L.A. Is as a commercial model.

If the decision becomes for the good of the team, then they wil draft Hodge.

If the decision is for the good of the Alaska Corporation, they will go for Chris Tiu. Tiu has a massive fan base among the elementary students because of the popularity of his show iBilib. And milk products are targetting this age group.

The Alaska team may suffer in the PBA, but they may end up winners in their sales.

Every team knows what they will getting in Chris Tiu, that is why i think he is not over-hype.

Pahabol lang....OK rin naman siya as player, plus may leadership qualities din.Something that Alska needs right now.

^ok sana sya kaso ceo na lang si uytengsu di na sya may ari kaya nya binenta alaska para mapondohan nya at maging competitive ang team nya. that means he wants his alaska team to be competitive. also cliff hodge can attract many fans and kids in commercial. because he got looks compared to a fajardo or vic manuel. thats why the best choice for them both competitiveness and commercial is cliff hodge.

May problema pa sila actually.Even if kunin nila si Hodge, I really don't expect much for the Alaska team next season dahil si Luigi Trillo pa rin ang coach nila.

Ngayong taon nga lang , maganda pa rin ang line-up nila pero disaster ang naging campaign nila. Trillo does not have it to lead a PBA team. Kahit kunin pa nila si Hodge, i doubt it if they will be contenders this year because of their coach.

Fajardo? next EJ Feihl, Marlou at best.. unless proven otherwise.

Abueva? Beast in the college game, but does not translate success in the Pros, players in the PBA are bigger in height and width.. plus he's 6'2" he is turnover prone dribbling the basketball 40ft from the basket.. it still remains to be seen come next season

    Hyped: Fajardo and Abueva

Sleeper: Pascual and Belencion.. they can flat out shoot the basketball

pasensya na pero sa aking palagay The Beast really know how to play in PBA. college palang laro nya pangPBA na.
About ke TIU masarap ang MILO sa GATAS(Alaska). LOL
