Lightbulb Bloggers' Pad and Learning Center: Collection of Helpful Tips

    Hello guys!

I just noticed that there are a lot of fellow bloggers (or aspiring bloggers just like me) here in the Hobbies and Recreation Sub-Forum.

So, I just want to open up a thread that will be a great learning center for those who are just starting to blog and those wanting to blog or even those who want to learn more about blogging.

Anyway, here are the guidelines for posts here so that we will have a more meaningful sharing/discussion:
    • Direct posting is encouraged (which means that things you'll be posting would come right there and there from your mind without the need of posting links etc).
    • Relevant Blog Articles - However you must include a brief snippet or summary, plus things that we will learn from the post/article to guide the readers.

Example: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Backlinking - this blog posts contains brief introduction regarding SEO and Backlinking which are fundamental in increasing your page rank (visibility in the search engine results page). You'll also learn some SEO tips here and good sites where you can build backlinks.

    Here are some encouraged topics:
    • Search Engine Optimization
    • Backlinking
    • Improving Quality of Posts
    • Keyword Researching
    • Choosing the Right Title
    • Effective Blog Layout
    • Good Blog Widgets and Tools
    • Effective way of increasing blog visibility
    • Tips on how to interact with Fellow Bloggers
    • Guidelines on Link Exchanges
    • and more

No sharing of blog posts here unless they contain helpful tips that are relevant to the purpose of this thread. I hope this is just fine with you. You may share your articles/blog posts in any of these:
-Blogs and Online Diaries (Chapter II) - Post Your Updates Here!
    -Do you BLOG?
    -My hobby is blogs!
    -Promote Your Blog!

Personal Note: Although there are a lot of threads here where you can post your blog posts, I suggest that you stick only to one because (1) you will not be seen by others as a spammer; and (2) it may not do good to your page rank (these are low backlinks that may even affect your standing negatively).

We're all set! I hope you guys can participate in this thread! It will be beneficial for all of us! Let's learn from each other.

On multiple similar posts in threads to promote blog posts

So, I'll start first by expounding more on my last statement (the note part).

I know as bloggers, we want to get as much as possible. That's why we exhaust all possible means just to get traffic including posting multiple posts in forums (and often, in copy pasted form).

Why is this not a good idea?

When people see that you are flooding/spamming all over the forum, readers might be disinterested. This will impact their trust on your posts. So, instead of getting some traffic, you lose your potential viewers. So, post in moderation.

Also, with the recent Google Penguin update, links that are anchored in irrelevant sites would be penalized and receive lower ranking in the Search Engine Results Page. Google can also detect similar, multiple posts, and mark you as a spammer. This will negatively affect your blog.

So, there you go! Avoid posting similar posts in threads just to promote your content. Stick to one. Or limit your sharing.

    On Google Authorship

    Relevant Blog Article:
Blog Post Title: Google Authorship Markup for Bloggers
Brief Summary: Be able to "claim" ownership/authorship to your blog/s by enabling or joining Google Authorship.
What you will find out: You'll be able to know what this is all about. Understand how it works, and how to claim it.

I actually don't know much about blogging. But I do know about my passion for sharing my food and travel adventures.

I know you mean well, but sometimes, we just want to keep it simple. If I were just about to do a blog and I'll be reading this, baka di na lang ako mag-blog.

It's not just promoting, SEO, chuchu, chuvaness. It's about reaching out to people and interacting with them.

    Thanks for sharing michymichymoo!

Actually you have a point there!

There's also one great suggestion on how you can reach quite a number of audience, and that is:
-To not care about these SEO stuff, and just produce high quality blogs with a lot of passion and information. (This is referred to as "writing Evergreen posts and articles".

This is just an option for those who really want to do more than passionate writing.

Actually, there are a lot of successful bloggers out there who do not even know what backlinks are but still manage to get a lot of viewers. But there are also quite a number who are really successful because they were able to engage in these SEO techniques (of course, I'm referring to those ethical techniques).

Again, thanks for dropping by michymichmymoo!

There are three threads here that let bloggers share their post that I know of.
I do promote mine in these 3 threads but not all at the same time. Because when a reader sees that i have posted it three threads on the directory, what are the chances the reader will visit all three of them knowing it's just the same thing. I wish there was just one thread or sub categorize the interest.

    my two cents

This is a good thread . . . hoping to learn from this one

@dawn_it_be_me Thanks for sharing your insights on this! I am actually starting to think if posting blog updates here in PEx is really driving more views.

What I mean is, do other PExers actually visit the blog posts we share? Kasi, in my observation, parang yung mga nagpopost/nagshahare lang din dun sa mga blog-sharing threads ang nagvivisit ng mga shared posts. But, I'm not really sure about this yet.

And I agree that it will be much better if we can somehow categorize the interest.

  9. #9
    In my opinion,
The existing threads offer varieties of interest which makes it interesting. I for one would check on some that matches my interest or triggers my curiosity. Since most of my posts are on travels, I usually post it on threads talking on related topic and I think I get more readers there than these blog threads.

Disadvantage...at times, the threads get boring when you see the same people post the same topic. Even if I feel that I don't get much readers on these threads, I still take chances that maybe one blogger might be interested in mine like I do to some whom I've followed already.

  10. #10
Yes, it really is more preferable if we'll post our posts in topics in PEx with high relevance. This will definitely have more potential of getting visits. Plus, SEO-wise this will be a good backlink since you posted in a highly relevant source/site.

    Thanks again for sharing!

This is a really nice thread! I'm guilty of promoting my latest blog posts in all 3 of the mentioned threads, as well as some threads at the Food and Drinks section all at the same time. I usually post accompanying photos to entice members to check out my blog entry. But now that you guys have mentioned it, I feel like I shouldn't promote my posts in those thread all at once since it can seem like flooding.. >.<

Anyway, I started blogging just to satisfy my itch to write. But I have to admit, over the months, I've found an interest with learning SEO. I know just some of the basics, but I hope I'll be able to apply them on my blog. So far I just make sure that I post high quality, unique content regularly, syndicate them on social media sites, and interact with my readers.

I'm really interested to learn more from this thread

This is a really interesting thread!

I've been reading through some blogs and articles to help me understand the workings of this.

I'm going to share with you some of the things I was able to find useful:

    1. Using Redgage to Increase Traffic and Build Backlinks - this one talks about one site where you can promote your blog posts.

    2. Understanding the Simplicity of SEO - this one lets you understand the beauty of SEO. It also tells us that it's not a complicated thing.

I hope you don't mind me sharing in the future, TS!
