I AM

Eh yung "and they shall call him Emmanuel" tapos lahat sila Jesus ang tawag

    "Jealous"

As God led the Israelites in the wilderness, He told them His name is Jealous.

Exodus 34:14 "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God"

    "LORD"

Later, as God continued dealing with His people to whom He entrusted His words, He spoke telling them His name is "Lord."

Isaiah 42:8 "I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."

Taking the "letter" of the word, how could God be so unpredictable as to change His name so often? The truth is these are all descriptive titles of God mistaken to be His names. This therefore caused concern to all Bible believers that the Roman Catholic Church, the oldest sect, through Cardinal Peter Galatin, conceived Jehovah for the name of God. In the Jewish Encyclopedia, Vol. 7, page 88 this is written:

"The reading Jehovah is a comparatively recent invention. Jehovah is generally held to have been the invention of Pope Leo the 10th's Confessor, Peter Galatin (De Arcanis Catholic Veritates 1518, Folio XLIII), who was followed in the use of this hybrid form by Fagius Drusius. Van de Driesche, who lived between 1550 and 1616, was the first to ascribe to Peter Galatin the use of Jehovah, and this view has been taken since his day."

The King James or Authorized Version of the Bible which was published in 1611 A.D. thus carried this name:

Exodus 6:3 "And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

Isaiah 12:2 "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation."

Isaiah 26:4 "Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength."

In recent times however, further revision of this name was made that now it is adapted by many modern translations of the Holy Bible. Father God is called Yahweh.

    "Yahweh"

The Samaritan pronunciation Jabe approaches the real sound of the Divine name. The other early writers transmit only abbreviations or corruptions of the sacred name. Inserting the vowels into the original Hebrew consonant text, YHWH, we obtain the form Jahveh or Yahweh, which has been generally accepted by modern scholars as the true pronunciation of the Divine name. It is not merely closely connected with the pronunciation of the ancient synagogue by means of the Samaritan tradition, but it also allows the legitimate derivation of all the abbreviations of the sacred name in the Old Testament. . .

Name of God in the Old Testament

The truth is God had not yet given His name in the Old Testament to His chosen people as revealed to Isaiah in:

Isaiah 52:6 "Therefore my people shall know my name (Acts 2:38): therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I."

    The Testament of salvation

After the Fall as every Bible believer knows, man needs God’s assurance for salvation. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob revealed this covenant in:

Genesis 17:7 "And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee."

Later, God made known that this testament of salvation was not exclusive to the (physical) "seeds of Abraham" but to all people belonging to Christ.

Romans 9:6 "Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel."

Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed (spiritual seed), and heirs according to the promise." ..... .....

I doubt any rotters actually read the whole 10 pages of the article, issues such as Jesus may either be self-deceived or lying were also tackled by the writer, sadly most comments here were just based on the excerpt i posted.

But he was apparently as vainglorious as any of these modern day cult leaders who call themselves Jesus. Of course, for many brainwashed Jesus freaks, the paradoxical thing is that they don't believe any of these cult leaders who are here in the flesh but rather choose to believe in something imaginary. How do they reconcile this with their constant mumbling about how Jesus coming back...? How can they be so sure that it's not one of these cult leaders already? The answer is that they don't know anything at all, they just need their emotional crutches.

What is the difference between some character calling himself "Son of God" 2 thousand years ago versus a cult leader today calling himself "Jesus"?? NOTHING.

Anyone can make up claims of miraculous feats, all the better if it happened so long ago that no one can verify them.
Hahaha.. that's the principle behind infallibility - those things declared cannot be verified.

Whatever they proclaim, whether Jeeezas is God, whether he flew vertically, whether he healed the sick, whether Jeeeezas appeared to Paul and talked to him, whether virgin mary remain a virgin, or she is in heaven right at this moment listening to prayers... CANNOT BE VERIFIED, yet they are all considered as ABSOLUTE TRUTH. As true as 1 +1= 2!!

This is exactly why critical thinking is so useful. It keeps us from believing in things that might be tempting to believe in at first but which, upon closer examination turns out to be unjustified.

In the case of certain religious beliefs, we suddenly realize the dissonance and incongruity of certain people (Born-Againists) finding it so easy to believe in a phantom Jesus (upon which they like to project all sorts of wishes and fantasies) and the completely arbitrary, unverified religious doctrines that accompany such beliefs, while on the other hand, they strangely feel wholly justified in immediately dismissing self-anointed prophets such as this guy - http://www.aj-miller.com/ - when in many ways, cult leaders such as Alan Miller make claims that are not that different from the extravagant claims the original Jesus made for himself!

My friend cannot believe how her older sister got brainwashed by a born again pastor. She told their mom that she's still sick because she's in the wrong religion [catholic]. His niece collects kerokeropi items, her sister made her daughter throw them all away - it was christmas for the garbage collectors. My friend threw a party for his mom, i was invited, her sister prayed over the meal for like 30mins, he walked out Now according to my friend, his mom is so stressed dahil sa kung ano ano sinasabi sa kanya nung ate nya. Her sister even blamed their being catholics for the death of their tita. Newly divorced nga pala yun ate nya kaya siguro madaling nauto. He called me the other day, balak daw pumunta nung Pastor sa bahay ng mom nya. Itataboy nya daw - sabi ko takutin nya ng crucifix

I agree with you on a specific point there. Religion is insidious in hitting us at the right emotional moment. Your friend's sister was hit when she was emotionally vulnerable because of her divorce. Pacquaio was hit when he was wondering what/who causes all his unthinkable successes and who can will them to continue. Religionists even say that when we become old and sickly, we will get back to God. They know that in emotional crisis, God is often used as an emotional crutch.

So the "what" vs. the "who" makes all the diff??

Rather, it is you who should explain HOW and WHY they are different to the extent that one "proves God is God" and the other doesn't.

Of course, the takeaway here is that NEITHER proves anything. Popeye or anyone else can utter the same phrase, doesn't prove anything, DUH.......... I can never understand why christians and other theists have an endless supply of stupid and idiotic reasoning and arguments.
