    May tanong lang po sa income tax

    Folks, qualified po ba sa addt'l exemption sa income tax pag head of the family ka? unemployed po kasi ang parents ko at sa'kin lang ang source of income ng buong family. bale i-declare ko po sana na dependents ang tatlo ko mga kapatid. Puwede kaya yun.

    This is what the Philippine Tax Law says;
    "Head of the Family" means an unmarried or legally separated man or woman with one or both parents, or with one or more brothers, sisters, or with one or more legitimate, recognized natural or legally adopted children, living with and dependent upon him for their chief support, where such brothers or sisters or children are not more than twenty-one(21) years of age, unmarried, not gainfully employed, or regardless of age, are incapable of self-support.

    It means you can claim as dependents both your parents so long as they are not gainfully employed Pero sa mga kapatid nyo po, I'm afraid you cannot. only parents and own children or legally adopted children can be claimed as dependents.

    Hope the above enlightens you. God bless.

    Ang pagkakaalam ko, hindi pwedeng gawing additional exemptions ang mga kapatid kahit na ano pa ang status mo, mapa-single, married, head of the family, it's complicated, NBSB, single ang loving it, single by choice, single by chance, may Ka-MU, in a relationship with God, etc. So 50,000 personal exemption lang ang pwede mong ideduct at walang additional exemption na 25,000 per children, maximum of 4.

    Keyword, additional exemption: 25,000 per children

    So answer based on current rules: No

    AFAIK, NO as to parents and NO as to siblings. You can have your status as Head of the Family though.

    yan than naalala from college... You cannot claim them as exemtions... children lang... I'm not even sure if parent are allowed... are they?

    Salamat po sa mga nag reply

    nag search din ako sa internet at nagtanong din sa mga kakilala ko, at sabi child lang daw ang puwede sa addt'l exemption. Kung ganun parehas lang pala ang single at head of the family. Pero may isa po nagsabi sa inyo na puwede ang parents maging dependents.

    bakit pa kasi dependents ang tawag? hahaha dapat kasi children na lang ang tawag eh, diba

    ang alam ko din, kasi diba nagkaroon ng revision last 2009.. its either zero exemption, single or married na lang ang status plus dependents.. yung head of the family eh pasok na sa single category with no qualified dependent and if you check the revised withholding tax tables ang nakalagay single or married employees with qualified dependent children.. so children lang talaga yung pwede as additional exemption.. confusing lang kasi yung "head of the family" na term eh wala na, ang pinalit single with dependent father/mother/brother/sister/senior citizen.. basta check mo na lang *** legend sa revised withholding tax tables(yung may daily, weekly, semi-monthly at monthly)..

    Post Tax Advice

    On my tax practice for a year now and as a tax lecturer in a University I never encountered tax statute saying na pwede ang parents as dependents. What tax code refers to as dependents ay yong children mo whether naturalized or legally adopted child.

    Even if a mother or a father is dependent on you they do not qualify per tax law to be subject to additional exemption. What the purpose of this specific provision in tax is for a relief on the expenses from your children.

    Dependent Child(ren) lang talaga ang pwedeng maging additional exemption.

    Naalala ko sa exam dati, nagkamali ako, yung problem kasi. yung parents niya is 65 yrs old. Naisip ko na dependent yun. Ayon, mali ako. Haha

    @DiCapricorn, @GeneralBloods, @bean_counter19 salamat po hehe

    para sa'kin unfair sa mga breadwinner, parehas lang iyong tax nila sa mga single
