Router that is alternative to NAS

    Hello Guys,

If you are looking for a NAS alternative at your home, check this router out. Details were obtained here, http://www.huntergen.com/2012/02/26/...ternative-nas/

ASUS has released it’s multi-purpose router called RT-N13u. This simply means that ASUS is not focused on manufacturing PC’s and laptops but also on network devices. One feature that attracted my attention is that it has a USB port which you can connect your printers to become a network printer, and your flash drives or external hard drives to be a NAS (network-attached-storage). But that won’t stop this router from being too unique. You may also download torrents and other files using HTTP and FTP even without your PC is off.

It is simple, install Download Master utility in PC side to monitor download status. For HTTP and FTP, you can download files by right clicking the link and select Download using Asus Download. And for torrents, double Click BT(BitTorrent) seed, “Download Master” program will run automatically. Isn’t it very simple?

Isn’t it great that you don’t need a NAS as this is a very great alternative to host your file shares. FTP can be setup with selected users and access to secure your files.

Aside from the added features, here are the other specifications of this router taken from ASUS website:

    Standards: IEEE802.11n, IEEE802.11g, IEEE802.11b, IEEE802.11d, IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u, IEEE802.1X, WPA, WMM, IPv4
    WAN Ports: 1 x RJ45 for 10/100 BaseT
Support Ethernet and 802.3 with max. bit rate 10/100 Mbps and auto cross-over function(MDI-X)
    LAN Ports: 4 x RJ45 for 10/100 BaseT
Support Ethernet and 802.3 with max. bit rate 10/100 Mbps and auto cross-over function(MDI-X)
    USB Port: 1 x USB 2.0
Reset Button: Push for above 5 seconds to restore factory settings.
    EZ Setup button: Yes (WPS)
    Management:
Internet connection type: Automatic IP ,Static IP, PPPoE(MPPE supported), PPTP, L2TP
    Dual Link support
    WAN Bridge support
    Multicast Proxy support
    Multicast Rate Setting support
Full Specifications can be seen on the ASUStek website

    http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireles...specifications

To sum up, this network device has a lot in store with its shoes. A very great device that you can buy on your local store that has a price of $76.00. Not bad, and based on my personal experience, this product is very good.

I personally have this, and I'm running a custom firmware inside of this router.. it is better than the ASUS firmware.

No RAID support? A NAS without RAID is like a fridge without a freezer.
