agree ako sa sona.. puro positive and realistic

    I'll speak my mind.

This thread is redundant. Most "Speak Your Mind" threads are.

You could use a little foresight.

    Credit goes to Pnoy.

    Grade Noynoy's 2012 SONA

    B

obviously it can't be denied that a lot of things have been done since he became president, and i commend him and his people for that. i like how he focused on the economic achievements of the country in the past year or so. i like how he set targets for his administration, which can be reviewed when he again faces in front of the people in next year's sona. all in all, i like what his administration has achieved.

however, i can't help but notice that he only mentioned the rep health bill in passing and not even any mention of the foi bill. also, i didn't like his start with the sour-grape mode, beating the past administrations again, and giving a lesson on his family tree.

that is great for coco farmers. finally, they have something big for their income.

moderators - why was the other thread closed? closing that thread had put to waste 10 pages worth of reactions/opinion. instead of closing that thread, moderators should have just changed it's title to this one and pinned it.

in fact why change the title at all? it should have just been pinned here.

closing that thread effectively shut down, denied people to "express themselves" worth 10 pages.

so maybe instead of closing that thread, the moderator should just merge that thread to ths one?

    My bad. Unlocked thread.

wouldn't it be better if NOynoy actually went after the perpetrators of the Coco levy fund scandal?

the coco levy case has been there for a long time, probably during arroyo or even before arroyo. it stayed in the courts that long. once in the courts, the president, whoever that is can't do anythng about it and will need to just wait for the judgement.

    are you on ampalaya again?

we actually don't feel any improvement nor project on his governance though it sais in the bible that god gave them the position yet they just do it for nothing ano bayan parang ala man lang plan tinuloy lang nya yung plan ni gloria na binabatikos nya ayun lang ang comment ko hope no one will get offended on what i said

A lot of people believe Noynoy is not fit for president. It's hard enough to be president. But Noynoy despite knowing he does not deserve to be one wanted to be one. So cut the crap about your excuses, Noynoy wanted to be one, now Noynoy is now being measured. If Noynoy is not up to it, he should quit and not pretend to be anything but a failure.

    Fail.

Obviously he is not proPnoy. He compared government data and private surveys done when Pnoy started on 2010 to data of today. Obviously according to him tumaas ang self rated hunger at poverty after 2 years. 7 pesos lang pala ang fare nuon now 8 or 8.50 ata. Also the price of oil went up as well as electricity and water. The only thing that improved daw was our currency na he said kawawa naman ang OFW. Obviously no love for Pnoy galing kay Mike.

    Addendum:

Also forgive and forget? Who? Naconvict na ba si PGMA. The last thing I know we still adhere sa innocent until proven guilty rule, right? Obviously kay Pnoy PGMA is already guilty. Gusto nyang iperpetuate ang culture of judging someone before any decision of court of law. Gusto nya court of public opinion. Are we lawless now? Forgive and forget someone who is convicted eg Erap not someone who is charged with vague cases. Forgive and forget someone who was proven who sinned not yung alleged pa lang. Pnoy should be logical not appeal sa emotion ng masa.

MANILA, Philippines — Working as dancer and errand boy in Hong Kong, the late iconic King of Comedy Dolphy can be considered as one of the country’s first OFWs as we know them. Self-deprecatingly, Dolphy said, entertaining in Japan with other Filipinos made them the first japayukis as early as the 1950’s.

As early as post World War II- for their various skills, Filipinos became renown OFWs; today many musical bands in Asia always have a Filipino or two in their line-up and over 30% of overseas seamen are from this country.

Total remittances hit US$20.1 billion in 2011, up 7% from US$18 billion in 2010, representing a growth rate of 7%.. This year, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas forecast US23-B in remittances from OFW based on current job orders.

So important are remittances since they impact domestic consumption which is a significant component of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Remittances last year accounted for at least 9% of the GDP, though a slide of 13% in 2007.

Worldwide remittances in 2006 totaled US$300 billion, reportedly bigger than direct foreign investments. The Philippines is, therefore, fortunate that she ranks fourth highest in remittances behind China, India and Mexico. China and India have over a billion population while Mexico just sits at the border of rich America.

The continuous OFW remittance growth rates are remarkable in the wake of weakened sovereigns in Europe and pockets of disturbances in the Middles East during the last two years. The source of remittances in RP have been coming from the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Italy, Germany and Norway.

Of the ten top sources, two are from the Middle East and three from Europe. Although fresh demand this year has been spotted from Kuwait, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Modern-day heroes, OFWs are often called And they are. For it is not the easiest thing to do to uproot oneself from one’s family and homeland and break one’s back in an alien land of stranger customs and even stranger laws.

It is not easy to mingle with the best – and the worst people- from various nations- some fine with their toothy smiles but others armed with rusty ice picks to puncture one’s lungs at the slightest agitation.

Their anniversary dates and birthdays abroad are the most heart-rending of reminiscing time- OFWs had to content themselves with gifts, texts, phone calls to help dry the tears from intense longing. And many years ago before EDSA I in 1986, many did not regard our OFWs then as we do the 11 million Filipino OFWs today.

Filipinos then had a hard time admitting abroad that they are Filipinos- preferring to be called Thais, Malaysians, or Indonesians. They were still embarrassed that many overseas Filipino workers then were domestic helpers like those in Hong Kong and London, dirt-laden laborers in the Middle East and the less than pure japayukis in Japan.

By doing so- they downgraded the dignity of honest labor of those in the Middle East, the importance of domestic help in the lives of working families abroad-and the value of genuine entertainment as long as it does not graduate them into the oldest profession.

They fail to consider that for every AIDS-stricken japayuki, every lazy street-digger in Bahrain or one dishonest maid in Hong Kong, there are hordes of crack Filipino bankers in New York and Singapore, Hong Kong, creative artist in Italy, top-rate and compassionate doctors and nurses, brilliant lawyers and charismatic salespersons in the USA and Canada, gallant seamen aboard international ships, chemists in Japan and the oil fields of Texas and yes, a Lea Salonga and a Chariz in Broadway and Glee.

And now we have a hard time keeping our screen animators, weather technicians and airport engineers- being offered abroad six times their annual pay in the Philippines.

Nationalism demands that we identify with the cream of the country’s crop and not associate ourselves with the scum of the earth. We must build and advance positive pro-Filipino consciousness.

Over the years, we have heard of our poor Filipinas who work abroad as secretaries, maids and waitresses and are often harassed by the “locals” who have the advantage of political and juridical connections. Many of these things that these Filipinas are made to do are not in their job descriptions at all.

Many have attempted suicide because landing in jail in some of these countries are worse than death. They feel better off dead in the coffin inside the morgue than land in jail with uncouth guards who bathe only ones a week and eat spicy food three times a day. And other ordeals.

How effective has R.A. 8042 or the “Magna Carta for Migrant Workers” that grants the NLRC (National Labor Relations Commission) the authority to decide violations of contracts between OFWs and their foreign employers by running after the local manning or placement agency been ? That needs a regular review.

Beyond that, we feel that the once contemplated OFW Cooperative Bank with government counterpart capital funding will be useful to provide insurance, educational loans, housing and livelihood loans to OFWs and their qualified dependents.

The idea is not just to reward them for their sacrifices in working abroad but also to finally wean them away from total dependence on foreign masters and stop this age old Diaspora and thus keep the Filipino family intact inside our home country.

It behooves government to look at these protection and enhancement goals if they believe in their hearts that OFWs are indeed our modern-day heroes.

The only thing I can commend on his SONA is his plans for defense upgrade (albeit he described it sparingly) as well as increase in state universities' budget. Other than that, whatever sort of "achievements" he mentioned are still not felt by the ordinary Filipinos, and hearing some of his plan still fall short on long-term improvements.

pero yung acquisition ng new aircraft/equipment for the AFP, pres. noynoy deserves credit for that.

Going back to the Etymology: State of the Nation

What is the present state of the nation? Categorically speaking, it means how is each sector performance - Education, Health, National Defense, Agriculture, Trade and Industry, Labor, etc impact on improving the well being of our citizenry ...? I just hope for the best of this country including that SONA yesterday to create a change for the better. To me, tangible results is highly preferred. I don't go by the numbers, I want to see and feel..

When this SONA bubble would bursts, lagot si PNoy. Haaayyyy. Don't want to be negative. Pero the SONAs should be truthful enough to pinpoint the problem... yun ang unang step para sa solutions. Kaysa always looking at the world through rose-colored glasses...
