Good evening !
Today there is no special inside storty.
It is because what Hyun Joong ssi presented in his performance and talked on the stage tells everything. What you had seen at the venue is everything.

A sudden change to sing a song a cappella, what he talked on the stage …everything was what he decided by himself .

Immediately after the daytime performance, he began his rehersal for the evening without a break. Although he knew that the starting time of the evening was put off, he was determined to do as much as possible what he could not realize in the daytime performance, even to the last-minute.

In the morning (July 15), he stopped his rehersal to go to the hospital. The time from that moment to the daytime session seemed short as well as for a long time. Even on the live performance stage, he seemed to struggle hard with himself. We were much impressed how he was a strong-willed person as well as being straightforwarded.

We think that the tears in his eyes expressed his sincere feeling.
We believe that having seen his performance of his all might, all of you at the venue could feel his heart. After the end of the event, he headed to the drama-shooting location. As he mentioned in the talk that he would live from now on as Baek Mil, a male-lead of the drama, he makes his best endeavours as actor as well.

Though the drama shooting continues, the Heat promotion ends now.
We would like to express our appreciation to you for your warm support from the bottom of our heart. We hope that you would continue to support him.

We also hope that you will take care of yourself in the summer.

The Past is Prologue for Actor Kim Hyun Joong

We don't hear or read much about the earlier works of Kim Hyun Joong in the acting field. There are three of them -Nonstop 5, Can Love be Refilled and a minidrama at Golden Fishery.They came two years ahead of We Got Married show at MBC in May of 2008. October of that same year it was announced he was the first to be casted as Yoon Jihoo in Boys Over Flowers. That drama was said to have catapulted him to international recognition and fame.

I love rewatching the so called oldies (Ellen's term) not only because of Hyun Joong in his early TV screen appearances as an actor but also other actors who he gets to act with or be paired with in bigger, longer drama productions later. Watch them at YouTube and you will see that Hyun Joong baby has come a long way.

In Nonstop 5 ep 208, sitcom at MBC in 2005, he played a motorcycling bag snatcher who was also in a previous life a henchman of a corrupt official. Hyun Joong died protecting a damo.He had minimal dialogue in this first acting role. In another sitcom at KBS 2 of same year, Can Love be Refilled he was William -a golfer who got involved in relationship issues. His dialogue increased, acting time was longer plus a kissing scene. The minidrama, on the other hand, lasted 12 minutes at Golden Fishery. Hyun Joong there was at his natural best, straightforward and funny as the blondish newbie at the office who exposed the shenanigans of the older employees.

Whether these early works are forgettables or not these acting projects though he had small roles and little exposures, nevertheless, represent a phase in his growth and development. It contributed to the snowballing effect, no matter what they say, as on how he acquired his huge fanbase today.

His PAST IS THE PROLOGUE works well here. It is his story privileging the present. It had set the stage, a back story, an introduction to the developing story -KHJ as an actor. Now filming his third drama,City Conquest is also his second as lead actor. We have seen snapshots,bits and pieces here and there as vicarious witnesses of an unfolding story in itself, the drama within the dramas, the process being laid out. Kim Hyun Joong, the actor as a work in progress.

Acting is a learned craft -a skill to be honed and sharpened with practice. Whether his critics found no brilliance in his acting, the rest found it improving. If he is a student of acting he'd be called persistent, tenacious and disciplined. He is honest by all means, he perhaps is his worst critic knew the areas that needed strengthening and continously work on them. They say he is stiff as a log, has emotionless eye expressions, dialogue that can't be understood. He could very well say ,'that's me, take it or leave it'. But he doesn't. He doesn't take acting for granted just because he is a well known pop star that could afford be just the luscious eye candy.

Not for Hyun Joong. He is, I imagine, instead the bright eyed student learning his ABC's who looks foward to the next exciting lessons. Basics are basics they must be acquired and yet improved upon. He wants to do good here similar to how he sparkled like a true gem on the stage having mastered and projected the essence and moods of his songs. After all these areas are not strangers, they are cousins or even siblings in the field of entertainment.

And so his past acting work planted the seed, now has grown roots in Boys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss. With enough watering, sunlight and loving care the promise of a robust tree is not far away in sight. That is why watching City Conquest is a must. I'd like to see how far that tree has grown strong yet resilient. How about you ?
