Trailer pa lang exiting na! Can't wait to watch this one!![]()
This movie is getting a lot of great reviews and even better the RE. Looking forward to watching this.
A complete reboot of the disastrous Stallone movie, many critics approved that this is one movie remake that actually works. It already received a lot of positive reviews from rotten tomatoes and it's better for you to see what the buzz is all about.
In the future, America has been reduced to a wasteland. Lying on its east coast is Mega City One, where “Judges” have the power of restraining peace and order in the city. They have the power to be a judge or an instant executioner. One judge named Dredd (Karl Urban) is paired with a psychic rookie (Olivia Thirlby) as they embark in a mission to stop Ma-Ma (Lena Heady) a dangerous drug dealer who's ruling a 200 story complex while running a new drug called Slo-Mo that is sweeping the entire city. Next thing they know the whole place becomes locked down and Ma-Ma orders to have the two judges executed.
Many would compare this movie to The Raid Redemption, as the idea was pretty much the same but the story and the scenes stands out on its own. Dredd provides non-stop action scenes that delivers right from the very beginning, stitched with bloody outrageous scenes where some of it was trimmed down but still maintaining the tension it offers. The futuristic cop shows no mercy for anyone who crosses his path, showing no fear to anyone as he is the law.
Karl Urban gave a remarkable performance keeping his character cool at all times. He shows no emotions, making him a man that only cares about the law. We never feel that Karl Urban is present in this movie. All we can see is Dredd with his rough voice who never removed his helmet. Olivia Thirlby is the perfect psychic side-kick as she embraces her role well, while Lena Heady flawlessly portrayed a remorseless villain.
Overall, Dredd is loaded with a lot of firefights and explosions, while the 3D effects were awesome especially with the incredible slo-mo scenes. Hopefully the movie would be appreciated by many as we are hoping for an upcoming sequel and a start of a new comic book movie themed franchise.

Fun fact: the script for Dredd was leaked on the inter-web since 2010 with only the "kiss of life" ending (thank god) excised from the finished product. The Raid: Redemption guys could have easily pilfered that plot or it's probably just a strange coincidence.
I am not going to recommend this movie to be seen in the local cinemas. It's a decent enough movie I think (I wouldn't know because I can't judge) but there were too many noticeable cuts that killed the flow for me.
I suggest just downloading a torrent and wait for that version.
bakit puro cut ha, MTRCB?
It's because SM Cinemas doesn't allow R-18 movies. Which is stupid IMO, I guess I can understand that it's because they didn't want local "Bold" movies to be shown but by banning R-18 movies as a result they seem to categorize R-18 as immoral movies. Which is not the case, Brokeback Mountain, Schneider's List, The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, Gangs of New York etc. These aren't immoral movies and even have some historical and societal importance in them. Yet SM decides they all belong on the same basked with the rotten apples.
It's such an ignorant way of judging a movie's morality. It's another reason why I hate these SM Malls (among other things). If they can just get out of their a$$es and realize this maybe all these R-18/R-13movies with cuts will just go away.
Just watched it at an SM cinema. Yep, a lot of cuts where all the good parts (e.g. exploding heads and stuff) should have been. I think they should refund me half of the ticket price for that.
Good action movie, not pretentious at all. 3D with slo-mo was impressive.
Too many cuts. As one suggested, it's better to wait for the uncut version. This one is for the cubes until the uncut version comes out. But, the movie is definitely better than the Resident Evil movie. That one's for resyk.
The Judges' uniforms look more functional than the comic version. But I hated the lawmaster bikes. They looked liked oversized pushcarts. The plot was marginal. For futuristic cops, Dredd and Anderson(?), don't exhibit much CQB skills. The only thing that saved this movie for me was the action sequences. Overall, this movie is slightly better than your average action movie. I hope the sequel will be an improvement.
Yeah the cuts are off and distracting, nevertheless I enjoyed the movi. Karl Urban is great!
honestly akala ko it will s*cked... pero i was wrong.. it's a decent action film.. kung walang sana cuts super ok sana.. i just love the dark/gory theme + action scenes + nice eye candy visuals..
I'm not going to say that I loved it because I already knew it was going to be good before I walked in so I'll skip to what pissed me off to no end: the cuts.
What's the point of making it R-16 if you're going to remove a lot of scenes? Scenes mind you, that were critical to the look and feel of the film! Di sana ginawang PG-13 na lang! And why show it in 3D here when the slo-mo sequences are nearly nil? Even something as trivial as a guy inhaling slo-mo inside a van was removed!
Kumbaga nagtayo ka nang strip club at pinagbabawalan niyo mga menor de edad pumasok pero walang lap dances or actual stripping; sasayaw lang sila. It's a false sense of godliness that fails to elude this nation and it makes me sick.
PS: Strangely, they kept ALL scenes of [spoiler start]Olivia Thirlby in various stages of undress and sodomy[spoiler end] but not gore and expletives. Not like I'm complaining, at least I have that to hold on to![]()

Ganun ba talaga? Magagalit si Stallone nyan!
The incredibly poor attendance is just sad because it's a better movie than the box office numbers suggest. This also effectively closes the door for any sequels.
Yes but as previously mentioned, this has been in development since 2006 with the script being leaked in mid-2010. Gareth Evans (director of Raid) claimed that he only knew about Dredd when a friend told him during post-production that their plot is similar to the upcoming reboot, well, or so he says.
Judge Dredd never shows his face in the comics (the whole "justice is faceless" motif) and that's one of the many reasons why the Stallone version was panned mercilessly.
as most have said the odd cuts just ruins it a bit, but overall its a good action film.
i saw this at trinoma and i asked the person taking the tickets if there were any cuts since i know the odd "conservative" stance of the philippines. woman says no so i was all giddy that they finally pulled out the "good" stick jammed in and let something "violent" to be shown. i was so disappointed.
it was like mistakenly picking up the clean version of a cd.
