^ Good move by FilOil actually. Before, Nike Summer League (now defunct) and the Father Martin's Cup are the only summer tournament available for the women's basketball. It should be given the rise of our Women's National Basketball team (who by the way came mostly from the UAAP).
Would like to see the progress of the UP Lady Maroons. It's been four years since we were in the Finals (however we have a tough luck getting the 8th title). 1983 pa last title namin (end of a four-peat era). I heard some UP Women's Volleyball players joined the team. Hope they return to Final 4 again and I bet they have a better chance than the Men's team.
From the FillOil Flying V Facebook Fan Page
Adamson defeated UP 93-88 in 2OT.
Bea Daez with 32 pts and 10 rebounds Hope her performance be carried on this coming season. We gave a Final 4 team (and a Finals contender) a tough fight. Looks like we have a new Sai Sadorra (missed those days).
any word on recruits for women's basketball teams this UAAP season?
Ang trend normally sa women's basketball, nagrerecruit sila sa WNCAA teams (there is no UAAP high school with a good women's basketball program). Most notable is Miriam College (and to some extent Saint Scholastica, CSA etc). Miriam College is the most famous as they supply the pipeline for UP and Ateneo (and maybe La Salle). The other UAAP schools like UST, Adamson, and FEU rely on basketball recruits from the province.
Kung college basketball program lang naman pag-uusapan, I think Adamson and FEU are the best teams when it comes to player development. Credit that to their coaches (especially AdU Coach Vega). So despite the fact na La Salle getting the blue chip recruit, they will still be beaten by these two teams (though I think they had a shot to return to the finals this year).
No offense to Coach Tyrone Bautista and Cholo Villanueva but they don't know how to maximize their players potential. Just look at Fritzie Oyao, their 6-5 center.
DLSU has a pipeline to the Zobel players though a few of the Zobel players found their way to Katipunan. Fritzi Oyao has the size but is not athletic. She also spent a year or two as a medical red shirt because of her size.
Players from the Tiong Lian play for the Manila based schools while ICA players and Assumption gravitate to DLSU and ADMU. DLSU and ADMU have recruited the players of Ateneo de Davao the past couple of years.
La Salle Lady Archers won the inagural FilOil Flying V Preseason Women's Basketball title. It is an encouraging sign for women's basketball in the Philippines. I could see some UAAP players who might suit up for the National team.
As for the upcoming UAAP tournament, I still see three teams vying for the title (FEU, DLSU and Adamson).
Yung kay Fritzie Oyao i think kaya hindi talaga siya nadevelop is because of her medical condition. Ang tagal nya din nag sit-out tapos pinadala pa siya sa US para maoperahan. Chavit Singson's daughter is with the DLSU WBT. Graduate of British school manila. I'm not sure though if she's included in the S76 line-up.
The Lady Archers convincingly defeated the Ateneo Lady Eagles with a 54-38 win earlier today at the Blue Eagle Gym in Ateneo de Manila University to open the UAAP Season 76 Womenís Basketball
grabe pala hindi man lang nakatikim ng MOA or Araneta ang UAAP women's basketball itong 1st round puro blue eagle gum or SJ arena mga laro nila
^ Buti nga andun kasi me kalakihan. I remember a time when they held the games in the FEU gym. Sometimes sa UST or Adamson gym ata.
I think they deserve a better venue or coverage. My god, yung last SEA Games muntik na tayo mag-GOLD. And to think most of the players there came from the UAAP (Cassie Tioseco, Arayi, Jo Gloriani etc). Talagang gandang Pinay. Alam ko when they won the SEABA champs and silver sa SEA Games, wala na si Vicky Brick, the Fil-Am guard.
P.S. I'm happy na naka 2 wins na pala yung UP Lady Maroons.
^^ I still think DLSU vs. FEU pa rin sa finals.
amoy sweep na naman FEU wow lang.
I agree dapat at least 1 game per week ok na sana, they deserved it naman ng TV coverage
as for the venue, last year may games pa sila sa MOA and Araneta kasi although ok na yung SJ arena pero dapat may games din sila sa 2 venues na yan
^ On the other hand, looks like Ateneo Women's will be swept in the 2nd round. Adamson Women's ba naman last na kalaban (they weakened but they could still contend for top 4). I just pity Danica Jose. Maybe it's just that they are rebuilding this year. Here is her pic:
I think she is 6'0. Almost the same height as Kady Wilson.
Natuwa lang ako, my Lady Maroons won their game vs UE to end the first round with a 3-4 record (at 5th place). Nice game for Karen Salapong, and our version of twin towers (Maan Wong and Tatel). But on that team I find Bea Daez the hottest.
Only La Salle could stop that team and maybe NU (the surprise team this year).
and yes parang rebuilding mode pa nga ADMU.
galing nito sobra
according to theo78 sa twitter 2nd round games ng women's games will be at MOA and Araneta na
^ No actually third year na si Danica Jose, their tall and pretty center. Kung tama memory ko, 2010 sya rookie. She was the starting center of the Youth team then pero mahina talaga unlike the team they succeeded na nakapag 4-5th ata.
The strong team na nag 4-5th-
Palmera (UAAP MVP) and Soc Borja from FEU
Kat Sandel, Anna Buendia, Kat Mangahas, Ana Almazan all four from Adamson
Cindy Resultay (Rookie of the Year) of UE (let's just say sya lang talaga nagbubuhat sa team)
Weak team of Danica Jose (actually halos nag DLSU)
Tricia Piatos and Melendez - DLSU
Danica Jose- Ateneo
You know why I like to watch this tourney more than the Men's. Di ako natatakot na ma 0-14 UP.
