Authentic Thai Restaurants in Metro Manila

Can someone recommend a good Thai restaurant in Metro Manila aside from:

Som's (Makati and Mandaluyong) - Been reading bad reviews about this resto. The last time I ate in Som's was when it was still on Reposo Street in Bel Air Makati (2007).

Thai Pan (Scout Lazcano, Q.C.) - Good but a little pricey.

    Chariya's Thai Kitchen
(168 Mall, Binondo, Manila) - Alright, affordable, but I can do better.

Recommendations will be very much appreciated!

I dunno if they are authentic, but they sure are great ones that we have tried recently:

    1. Krung Thai in Marikina

    2. People's Palace

    3. Mango Tree in Bonifacio Global City (Don't mistake it for Mango Tree Bistro. For some strange reason the menu is different, and the food quality seems inferior compared to the Mango Tree)

    4. Basil in White Plains, Quezon Ciity

    5. Nav in Kapitolyo

Among these, the best we have tried is People's Palace. Next to it would be Nav. Probabl because the ones who run this used to work closely with the ones in People's Palace

Try Thai Dara at Greenhills. Their Pad Thai and Tom Yum Soup are excellent.

Mango Tree is the higher-end version of Mango Tree Bistro. Thus, the food there is more expensive and indeed, closer to the original Thai cuisine.

If your budget can allow, then I suggest Benjarong at Dusit Thani Makati.

^ Yeah, I saw a photo of a Thai national cooking pad thai in Dusit Thani. I suppose that's how close I can get my pad thai to being authentic. Thanks for the tip!

I'm also checking Wild Ginger and The Thai Kitchen.

Tried out Dek-A during lunch break since it's just one ride away from the office. Dek-A is at Flordeliz Street corner Vito Cruz Extension (now Pablo Ocampo Sr. Extension - what's with all these changing of street names? For vanity sake?). And is open for lunch and dinner. Tel. no. 5005933

I ordered pad thai (P180), tom yum soup (P250 - good for two persons), and shrimp paste rice topping (P180).

Pad thai is alright. Serving is just fine but it's missing some flavor despite having lime, bean sprouts, etc. That tamarind paste kick was something I was looking for.

But the tom yum was good! Just the right amount of sweet, sour, and mild spice. The tom yum was placed in a clay bowl with cover so it remains hot for good 30 minutes or so. Hefty serving of shrimp is something that I like too.

The shrimp paste rice topping was good too. There's enough pork, shrimp paste rice, green mangoes, green chili, and onions.

But except for the tom yum, it's easy to cook pad thai and shrimp paste rice topping at home (with the right ingredients). I should try out the other food on the menu with a few friends next time.

Merong Thai noodle stand sa Cartimar Food Court. Masarap siya. Seems pretty authentic. Actually madaming masasarap na concessionaires doon sa Cartimar.

Tried it SR Thai on P. Noval Street in Sampaloc, Manila.

It has changed its name to some initials of new owners (?), MHJI something Thai Kitchen. Still serves pad thai, bagoong rice, etc. but lo and behold it has value rice meals canteen style (no longer thai dish).

Pad Thai was ok. The bagoong rice was bad (too many fat - almost no meat, mangoes were too soggy), the curry rice was just alright.

I guess those who went there and tried out SR Thai had seen better days. Was it during early 90s?

    -----------------

Sen Lek has a branch at SM Makati, I might check it out this week.

Sen Lek Thai Express at the food court of SM Makati sells pad thai for P100 and beef bowl with squid balls for P100.00 (among others). This is the franchise of Sen Lek at Cartimar and its other branches.

The beef bowl is good. It's also value for money. For P100, there's a hefty serving of beef (as in chunks!), noodles, and squid balls. I also like the soup and garnishing on it.

The pad thai tastes good too but I feel like it's too Filipinized - less of that spring onion and lime taste but more of the calamansi sour kick in it.

Nonetheless, it's a good choice if you're in a fast food center in Makati and want to satisfy that craving for an almost authentic Thai dish.

Anyone who has tried 8 Spices at Rob Galleria? Haven't tried it yet.

I wonder why Thuk Thai closed down. Thuk Thai used to be located near UA&P then transferred to Rockwell Business Center Ortigas. It closed down a few months ago.

RE: Sen Lek Thai, they have a stall in Strata 2000, Emerald Avenue.
