The NEED to build a brand-new, Olympics-standard national sports complex for PH

it's high time that we stop building indoor arenas in this country and instead focus on building a brand-new, Olympics-standard national sports complex for the Philippines that will replace the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Manila and the Philsports Complex in Pasig.

it's a pity that the government did not even bother to allocate parcels of land in areas such as Fort Bonifacio and the Manila Bay reclamation area for the building of a new national sports complex. how can they tolerate the idea that our sports complexes here in this country are dilapidated? is this the way this country supports its sports programs?

what we need to have is a national sports complex that is within Metro Manila and has, among others, the following:

    - a 40,000- to 50,000-seat track and field, and football stadium with retractable roof, enabling it to be converted into a covered venue when needed.

-two 10,000-seat indoor arenas that can serve as venues for indoor sports and practice areas for national teams.

    - a 15,000-seat baseball stadium.

    - a brand-new national swimming complex that will replace the controversial Trace Aquatics Center in Laguna.

    - dormitories and training facilities for members of the national teams.

    - new offices for the PSC, POC and other national sports associations.

Clark eyed as Philippine’s premier sports training center, amusement hub
CLARK FREEPORT – Officials of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) have presented to President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III the proposed Clark Star Center, which is geared to transform the Freeport into the country’s premier sports training center and amusement hub.

CDC President Felipe Antonio B. Remollo said the Clark Star Center, otherwise known as the Clark Sports Training Amusement and Recreation Center, was presented to Japanese investor during the President’s state visit in Japan on Sept. 26.

During the state visit, Remollo had asked Japanese traders to fund the Clark Star Center, which will be established in a 200-hectare area at the Northeastern portion of the Freeport.

Remollo said he had already met with businessmen in his visit to Yokohama and Tokyo cities in Japan early September and they expressed interest in investing at the Clark Star.

Remollo said the Clark Star will have various facilities for water sports such as wakeboarding, rowing, water skiing, parasailing, kayaking, dragon boating and jet skiing. It will be built near the Sacobia River to answer the need for a body of water for the water sports.

It will also have world-class facilities for basketball, baseball, swimming, tennis and soccer. Remollo said dormitories for athletes, sports academy and training ground will be provided since the Clark Star is geared to be a training center of national athletes.

Remollo said he had presented to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) his plan and its president, Jose Cojuangco Jr., “liked it very much.”

Remollo said hotels, villas, condominiums and a commercial area will also rise at the Clark Star to attract tourists to stay in between and after competitions. The residential and commercial area will be completed by a nature and theme park.

In the plan, the CDC wants to create a monorail link system allowing people to travel around the center.

watching the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London makes me wish that we have modern, Olympics-standard facilities here. it's long overdue, really. our athletes deserve a better, modern sports facility to train on.

also, could it be possible for us to modernize our existing sports facilities here and elevate them to Olympics-standard levels? it was done in Barcelona in time for the 1992 Summer Olympics (the Spaniards renovated the decades-old Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys alongside the building of new facilities for the Games), in Athens in time for the 2004 Summer Olympics and in Rio de Janeiro in time for the 2016 Summer Olympics (the Brazilians are refurbishing the Maracana Stadium and the Sambadrome, among others, in preparation for the games aside from, of course, building new facilities). it might even be possible for us to tap the expertise of our local architects or a partnership of local and foreign experts for such an endeavor.

Uu nga. Its named PHILIPPINE ARENA.

How true naman yang mga RENDERING about an ARENA somewhere in MANILA BAY? If ever eh halos magkatabi na sila ng MOA Arena ah.

^ i dunno if there is still space left on the Manila Bay reclamation area. puro hotel and casino operators na ang mag-occupy ng spaces doon from the area immediately to the south of MOA all the way down to Cavite. walang puwang dun for a modern, Olympics-standard sports complex.

Korny naman kung malayo sa manila. Hinde ba kayang irenovate yun rizal sports complex at isama yun kalapit na area?

I think Clark has the most potential para sa isang malaking sports complex.

Manila is already stuffed, plus with all sorts of chaos going on, it would be hard to organize something as big as the Summer Olympics.

And sana maka-gold muna ang athletes natin bago tayo mag-host.

I agree CLARK will be the ideal place to build a new sports complex

AFAIK the government are looking for a big parcel of land outside of manila to relocate the AFP headquarters from its current location in QC.

feasible din kaya itong buong AFP na mapagtayuan ng isang malaking sports complex?

and that is the prerequisite, for a nation that has still to prove itself to be an olympic worthy venue, we have to atleast excel on some sports! tinitingnan din po ang track record... kaya sa bandang huli, Olympics will not happen in the Philippines in our lifetime. Kung yung Asian Games nga hirap tayong magbid, olympics pa kaya. Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia siguro ang mauuna bago tayo! kaloka lang!

The Philippines has an abundance of National Stadiums already. I dont see why everyone always complains we dont have enough facilities there are over 40 rubberised track ovals in the Philippines you can see a link here i have compiled myself which serves as a definitive and comprehensive guide to the number of stadiums we have available in our country.

Feel free to post a comment on this article on the comment links if you know of any i have missed out or send me an email to pinoyathletics@gmail.com

Now getting back on point. I dont see the reason why we need an Olympic sized stadium, the Philippines will never get to host the Olympic Games. In Manila alone there is a new stadium at Ateneo Quezon City, Makati, Rizal Mem, Rizal HS, Ultra, Fort Bonifacio, Marikina and Green Hills (the last 2 are 6 lanes). The issue is more the access given. I think instead of spending money on more lavish stadiums. By the way some of these stadiums listed lie forgotten and not in use by the athletic community. Instead of spending money on stadiums we need to put this money into developing good grass roots, good local competitions which encourage depth in are sport and equipment for are athletes to use.
