    Dolphy: Pinoy Everyman
JESSICA SOHO, GMA NEWS July 12, 2012 12:39am

Napakarami niyang ikinuwento. Buong buhay niya yata at career.

— Jessica Soho, GMA News

    TV5, magpupugay kay Dolphy
    JUN LALIN

Sharon Cuneta tweets lengthy tribute to Dolphy

Once again, the 140-character limit was simply not enough to convey the complete thoughts of Sharon Cuneta upon learning of Dolphy’s passing.

This time, the Megastar tweeted 13 consecutive posts that when pieced together revealed how she learned of the sad news from the New Bilibid prisons where she was taping an episode of her TV5 afternoon talk show, “Sharon, Kasama Mo, Kapatid.”

Here’s the tweets in full and in their correct sequence:

“I didn’t know that there was no signal for cellphones or wi-fi inside the New Bilibid Prison. I was there since after lunch and…”

“…just finished taping. I was so happy because I was inside maximum security and EVERYONE was so warm & not”

“…not one person/inmate made me bastos even from afar. In fact, mas nakaramdam ako ng pagmamahal at respeto mula sa…”

“…mula sa kanila kesa sa ibang tao sa labas. And then I got inside my bus, answered KC’s call on my phone & while we were…”

“…talking, my Exec. Producer Crissy came to me and very gently told me na “Wala na siya…” My Tito Dolphy. The King…”

“…King of Comedy. A good father. Loving & devoted to Zsa Zsa. Extended help to whoever needed it, and…”

“…QUIETLY. God brought him home not just to release him from his pain & suffering, but because He had lent Tito Dolphy to us for…”

“…too long a time and wanted him home. I’m sure the Lord missed him. As I am sure we all will, from now on… Rest in peace,…”

“…my beloved Tito Dolphy. I will continue to do my best to follow the beautiful example you set for all of us, even when you didn’t…”

“…know it. I love you from the bottom of my heart. I miss you sooooo very much already. Showbiz has again lost one of its…”

“…its handful of truly talented and most decent members. You left us with so few who are like you. Your leaving has just made…”

“…us all realize all the more how much we love you. We will never forget you. Rest in God now, Tito. Pls say ‘hi’ to my…”

“…to my Daddy and my two babies when you see them. I love you.”

    My lips are a 25.
One of my earliest memories was seeing Dolphy in person.

It was the mid-1980s and my father was directing one of Dolphy's lesser-known sitcoms in RPN-9. Dad tagged me and my little brother along in Broadcast City, probably to introduce us to his world.

When I saw Dolphy enter the studio, I ran into him and hugged him tight, as if I saw a long-lost relative. To this day, I still don't know what possessed me to react like that, but who wouldn't like hugging the King of Comedy?

Thank you, Tito Dolphy, for the laughter and the lessons you have taught to generations of Filipinos. I am very sure that Tito Panchito, Tito Babalu, Tita Nida Blanca, Tita Dely Atay-atayan, and Lolo Conde Ubaldo have welcomed your arrival in heaven.

Dolphy is now home, son says
We brought him home to Marina and we brought him home here to family, his Kapamilya.

During ABS-CBN's tribute for Dolphy, actor and director Eric Quizon said his father kept on saying, "uwi na ako, uwi na ako" while he was at the hospital.

"His wish was granted today. We brought him home to Marina and we brought him home here to family, his Kapamilya, and now he is home with his creator," Quizon said.

Epy Quizon: 'Nami-miss ko ‘yong tatay ko'
    July 12, 2012 6:49pm

I never thought it was like this. Akala namin it was gonna be solemn.

“I don’t know, I’m lost with words now.

“I would like to thank the Filipino people all over the world.

“Thank you so much for the prayers, thank you so much.

“Probably those prayers got him back with us and, you know, we were able to communicate with him before he left."

PREPARED BUT…

PNoy in favor of declaring Dolphy a National Artist
By KIMBERLY JANE TAN, GMA News July 12, 2012 5:38pm

For the first time since the issue has cropped up, President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday categorically said that he was in favor of declaring the late King of Comedy Dolphy (or Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. in real life) a National Artist.

"Sang-ayon ako dun sa mungkahi na gawin siyang National Artist," Aquino told reporters after attending a forum of the Interior and Local Government on disaster preparedness at the SM Mall of Asia SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The President, however, maintained that such recognition would have to go through the proper process.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), manages the process for the award.

The selection of nominees is administered by the Special Research Group, which validates the works of the nominees, and the National Artist Award Council of Peers, which screens the nominees and recommends them to the NCCA and CCP boards. The boards then deliberate and make a vote.

The final list is then presented to the President, who confirms the list and confers the award.

Earlier in the day, NCCA board member Senator Edgardo Angara said they are now reviewing the selection process for the National Artist Award.

He said they wish to make the process "less political."

National Day of Mourning or Remembrance?

Aquino, meanwhile, said he is still studying the possibility of declaring a National Day of Mourning or a National Day of Remembrance for the King of Comedy.

"Pinapaaral ko po yung precedence. May karapatan ba akong magdeklara nun o pwede ba yung National Day of Remembrance," Aquino said.

"So kasalukuyan, inaaral pa kung ano yung angkop... ano yung kailinsunod sa ating mga batas at sa ating mga tradisyon," he added.

The President later visited the wake of Dolphy at The Heritage Park in Taguig City. The comedian passed away on Tuesday night.

Palagay ko marami siyang naitulong sa ating lipunan sa [pamamagitan ng] kanyang sining," he said.

According to deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, a National Day of Mourning is declared on the day of the person's burial.

"It's not a period of mourning. The National Day [of Mourning] falls on the burial. That's the standard, that's the tradition," she said earlier in the day. — RSJ/DVM, GMA News
