A Magic That Is JULIELMO
When asked what he can say about Julie Anne San Jose and Elmo Magalona, film director Mac Alejandre simply said, ‘May magic sila’.
I concur.
There’s something about this pair that got a lot of people spellbound, & every bloody fool knows that to put someone under a spell, there has to be magic. True. May magic nga ang JuliElmo.
The Philippines is a country filled with people who love to be entertained, and fortunately, it is also filled with people who love to entertain and are really good at it. No wonder that even in the quaintest little town in the country, almost every household has a TV set.
We Filipinos are hungry spectators and we want to be fed. The entertainment industry is well aware of this and so, we are heaped with an array of beautiful, talented people expected to fulfill that need. Thousands of them make it to our TV sets and to the big screen, but only a few make it to our hearts.
Among the many love teams, JuliElmo not only made it to our hearts. They made it right to the center—- bulls-eye. How did they become so magical?
TALENT. Julie and Elmo are both attractive but truth be told, they are not the best-looking pair in the industry. It’s their talent that sets them apart. It helped that they started as a musical tandem by which their chemistry as much as the melody, rhyme and rhythm that they make together, were uncovered.
DRAMA. Look closer and see a real-life drama unfold. Both Julie and Elmo have beautiful, colorful stories to tell. Julie was a virtually unknown, talented pretty little girl who tried to chase her dream for stardom. She failed many times. Elmo, albeit not having to go through what Julie went through, is chased by the shadows of his father’s fame. Francis M’s legacy as a musical icon is a big shoe to fill in. Because of this, Elmo had to reckon with the doubtful public who hurl accusations of him riding on to his old man’s name. It wasn’t all roses for both kids. And I think that is how, subliminally, they got the sympathy of the Filipino audience. Oh, we always love the underdogs, don’t we?
MYSTERY. Kilig is a word that has always been associated with JuliElmo. Whenever they perform together, you can hear a cacophony of shrieks and screams. May hampasan pang nagaganap. And the wonder of it all is that even if Julie and Elmo are only standing next to each other, people still feel the same vibe. And their screams are just as loud.
I think a major contributing factor of JuliElmo kilig is mystery. People have always been fascinated with the unknown. We love to make guesses. We love to play with our imagination. We make movies in our minds. We write stories into the wind. All because of one thing—- we know that the yet unknown presents a lot of possibilities. Are they dating in real life? Do they like each other? Will they end up together off-screen? This is the reason why a mere elbow-to-elbow brush or a crooked smile between Julie and Elmo could make us all feel warm and fuzzy inside. In short, ADIK lang talaga. hehe.
FAIRY TALE. We all love happy endings. Hell, we want something better than that—-we want happy-ever-after! And as fans, we want it for Julie and Elmo, because they are our Cinderella and Prince Charming. Whoever gets in the way is considered a witch if not a wicked stepmother or an evil queen if not a big-*** ugly ogre. So when haters or a third party get into the picture, some of us start to feel bad, even angry. But hey, c’mon, come to think of it, every beautiful story has a villain. Personally, I like villains, and I think every Julielmo fan should, too! Villains help establish the protagonist’s character. As evil as the Stepmother was, Cinderella was ever as pure and gentle and that is where you can see the contrast. In the same manner, haters will hate, rumors and intrigues will be blown out of proportion, but how Julie and Elmo will react to them shall be the basis of their characters. And might I say, that, as far as dealing with ‘villains’ is concerned, so far, so good. Both of them are doing beautifully! This is why I believe in them. This is why I have faith in their partnership. This is why I let myself be bound under their spell. If they keep it up, they’re looking into having a happy-ever-after, uhm, career-wise. (hehe).
Talent. Drama. Mystery. Fairy Tale. I say, these are how Julie and Elmo work their magic without flipping the wand. Meanwhile, let us all sit back and enjoy the lovely spectacle they’re making together. And then, we wait for that happy-ever-after.

Julie's best asset is her personality. She seems very transparent, what-you-see-is-what-you-get ba..her pagiging macho, makulit, cheerful and passionate to evertything she does..
Elmo's best asset (nasabi na 'to ni ganda) is his being composed...ngayon agree na talaga ko kay ganda na composed person nga si Elmo, by watcing his interviews and reading articles regarding him, he does really know how to answer, how to act and handle things..

I like JAPS’ personality. Her love for her family, friends, the people who supports her & her passion for singing. She’s also approachable, happy/bubbly person & I like that she appreciates things, even the littlest things. And every time she smiles, it makes you smile also. And I like the way her eyes smiles(she have such expressive eyes).
For Elmo, his love & respect for his family. Hands down ako sa parents nya for his great upbringing. The way he carries himself, & his smirk
