Review centers are vampires feeding on the false hopes of parents and students. Alam mo naman sa sarili mo kung para sa UP ka ba talaga or hindi.

hindi rin naman. Review centers may basically be just cram schools, but at least the kids can feel the pressure. I didn't go in one but I was elated when I found out that I made it. I thought I had zero chance.

But to be fair, reviews should really be done during the summer. I transformed into a monk after the incessant tellings-off from Mama. But I have to thank her for that one. It paid off!

Hindi naman. They can be looked at as a form of preparation or fine tuning. Arguably mas mahal sila kesa sa mga in-house reviews conducted by many high schools for their Seniors. Kung talagang matalino ka, mahahasa ka lalo. Kung talagang mahina ka, the reviews will give an indication kung talagang kakayanin mo o hindi.

Review schools do not promise that any particular enrollee will pass the UPCAT or any other entrance exam. Its not a promise that they can make to you as an individual. They merely show statistics on how many (out of the total) of their enrollees were able to pass the UPCAT. And their reputation grows on how consistent they are year after year, UPCAT after every UPCAT.

Its still up to you if you want to enroll with them. If you can afford it, go ahead. Just choose the really good ones.

Me, I took the UPCAT at a time when review centers were unheard of.

TIP: Stay calm. If you dont know the answer then skip. (to be honest, i probably had 10-15 items unanswered so KAYA YAN! )

Nag-review ako, pero hindi sa formal review center. Yung mga MSA-ish na handouts, mga ganung klase yung ni-review ko. Nakatulong siya para sa akin kasi naging familiar ako sa mga styles ng exam, lalo na sa mga English at Reading Compre.

Sorry, pero disagree ako kay carl sa isang point niya. Depende siguro yun sa magte-take. Hindi ko nga natapos yung Reading Compre . Pero sa Math, may extra time pa ako. Para sure, magdala ka na lang ng empty non-transparent bottle para sa weewee. Kidding. Sinaid ko na pantog ko bago mag-UPCAT. Hindi ako umihi.

Ok lang din sa akin na mag-leave kayo ng blank. May mga blank ako sa Math, English, Reading Compre, Science. Lahat. Pero wag naman sosobra. Less than 20 blanks yata ako (or more, hindi ko na maalala).

Sineryoso ko kasi ata ang Math, kaya ako naubusan ng oras. Pero promise, tinandaan ko ata yung ibang questions tapos sinosolve ko pa rin kahit tapos na yung Math part para dun sa mga na-miss ko.

Kaya siguro ambaba ng Reading Comprehension part ko, dahil umihi ako. Pero natapos ko rin naman siya.

Trivia lang: Kadalasang nakakaaliw ang mga texto sa Reading Comprehension ng UPCAT. Unlike sa ibang CETs na ang seryoso. I think our batch got an english text about a failing rock star, at ang explanation ng mga street sa Teacher's Village sa Filipino.

Di ko makalimutan yung tanong na.. Alin sa mga sumusunod ang pwedeng ipangalan sa isang kalye sa Teacher's Village. (Then we got 4 adjectives na nakalimutan ko na).

At oo nga pala, totoo yung mga Math and Science Questions in Filipino. Natuwa ako ng bongga dun.

Haha.. tama po kayo. super interesting ng mga selection/passage sa RC, nung simulations nga namin ang hindi ko malimot-limutan yung kay Brenda ( Brain Damage ). haha. Pero ang advise sa amin ng teacher namin, huwag na daw naming tapusin ang pagbabasa kasi wala naman daw points yun, ang importante masagutan ng tama yung mga tanong.

Haha.. tama po kayo. super interesting ng mga selection/passage sa RC, nung simulations nga namin ang hindi ko malimot-limutan yung kay Brenda ( Brain Damage ). haha. Pero ang advise sa amin ng teacher namin, huwag na daw naming tapusin ang pagbabasa kasi wala naman daw points yun, ang importante masagutan ng tama yung mga tanong.

I mean the exam on Saturday morning is different from the exam on Sat afternoon. Both are different to the exams w/c will be given the next day. In addition your seatmate has a different exam set from yours. That means di kayo pwede magkopyahan.

tips: never review at all for the exam, don't eat anything starting on the morning before the exam, never magsasabi (or magyayabang) na feeling mo papasa ka sa exam (baka mapahiya ka).
dahil dyan pumasa ako for BS CoE. afternoon pa sked ko noon. haha

ok po. pero medyo nalilito pa rin ako . bahala na. hmmm, does that mean, si arkinx ay hindi nakapasa last yr, dahil mali yung kinopyahan niya? haha.

tapos nagtanong tanong ako sa mga kaklase ko nun yung mga naka 2.5 yung UPG
yung lahat ng subtests nila 90+ tapos yung gen ave lang nila sa hs mga 86-88 tapos 2.5 lang UPG
so in conclusion kailangan talaga mataas hs grades mo at UPCAT para pumasa. kahit 60% UPCAT 40% Hs grades, no effect kahit iperfect mo UPCAT mo tapos mababa hs grades. yung mga naka 2.6 samin 90++ yung UPCAT scores pero mga 84 lang yung gen ave nung hs. yung mga palugit, pabigat stuff, will take effect too! nabv ako nung nakuha ko UPG ko, kala ko 2.580 pero I guess hindi tinadhana, proud to be in DLSU

Yup. The minute you submit your HS grades UP already knows whether you get in UP or not. The UPCAT basically says whether you are right for the course or not.

According to the former Dean of Eng'g, may some kind of formula rin that involves the grading system in your school at yung uri ng school na pinapasukan nyo. Syempre ang unfair naman kung si Student A ay nag-aaral sa school na nagpapaulan ng line of 9s pero di naman niya deserve tapos si Student B ay matalino naman talaga, sadyang mataas lang ang standards ng school nila in terms of grades.
