    AWOL Situation

    Hingi lang sana ako ng input para sa employment situation ko ngayon:

    Nag AWOL ako last May sa previous employer ko, 1st job ko yun and 1 year and 2 days ako dun to be exact. Ngayong araw, nakakuha ako ng sobrang gandang job offer sa isang company na naapplyan ko. Nilagay ko yung previous employer ko sa resume ko pero di ko sinabi sa kanila na nag AWOL ako.

    Ngayon, binigyan na ko ng requirements para makapag simula na sa new job ko at hinahanapan ako ng Certificate of Employment / clearance. Obviously, di ako makakakuha nun sa previous employer ko kasi nga nag AWOL ako sa kanila at may bond din na di ko binayaran (pero nag submit ako ng resignation letter a few weeks bago ako mag AWOL, dapat makikipag negotiate ako sa bond na babayaran pero may mga event na sumama loob ko kaya di na lang talaga ako pumasok at may health issues din kasi ako).

    Ang tanong ko, sasabihin ko ba sa HR ng company na nag bigay sakin ng job offer na nag AWOL ako from my previous company at di ako makakapag bigay ng COE or clearance? Mukang extensive ang background checks nila and inisip ko, baka mas okay pa na unahan ko na sila just in case malaman nila na nag AWOL ako or talagang hanapan nila ako ng COE or clearance.

    Or, di ko sasabihin at tignan ko na lang kung makakalusot ako (baka din kasi pumayag sila na di muna kumpleto requirements at makalimutan na)?

    Natatakot lang din ako sabihin yung totoo kasi most probably babawiin nila ang job offer pero umaasa ako na kung sasabihin ko yung totoo at mapapaliwanag ko kung anong nangyari, baka tanggapin pa din nila ako.

    Ano ang mas dapat kong gawin?

    Kung sigurado ka na magka-conduct sila ng background check e siguradong huli ka, lalo na at isa pa lang naman yung previous company mo. I'd say tell your future company's HR, explain your case and maybe assure them that you are more mature and professional now and in under no circumstances that you'll do the same AWOL thing again. Its better to tell them upfront para kung di talaga pwede sa kanila ang mga style mong paga-AWOL AWOL e alam mo na agad at makapag move on ka na. Kung susubukan mong ilusot, pwede ka ngang makalusot sa umpisa pero pagka lumitaw yung bad record mo, I'm sure magiging dalawa na ang companies na bad shot sayo. Di na kita sesermonan sa pagkakamali mo dati kasi alam kong alam mo na yung pagkakamali mo, so wag mo na dagdagan this time. Hehe just my piece of mind. Hope this helps.

    Wow, thanks alot Lhorenz. Baka nga sabihin ko na lang sa company na nag offer sakin. Nakakalungkot man na baka bawiin nila ang job offer pero kaysa naman may tinatago ako

    Hayaan mo nang bawiin kung babawiin nila bro, at least makakapag move on ka na. Sa tingin ko, 60% ang chance mo na hindi na babawiin yun, given na mahirap mag recruit ng tao ngayon, at dumaan ka na din naman sa processes nila. Just remember to be humble and never do the same mistake again. Pag tinanggap ka pa din nila, ang laki ng reward mo - peace of mind. Goodluck!

    Sige, nag text na ko sa HR nila at nagtanong ako kung pwede akong pumunta sa office nila ngayon or bukas para masabi ko ang totoo. Kung babawiin man nila, at least di ko na pinatagal. Mas mapapaasa lang ako at kakabahan kung di ko sasabihin at may tinatago ako.

    Told HR of the company that the company that tried to hire me the truth. Job offer wasn't retracted but he said I still need to present a certificate of employment (kahit wala ng clearance).

    Pwede pa kaya ako humingi ng ganun sa previous employer ko? Kahit naka indicate dun na nag AWOL ako, ok lang sakin since sinabi ko na din naman sa HR ng company na mag hire sakin na nag AWOL ako.

    ^congrats! tapos na yung hard part. Kausapin mo na HR ng previous employer mo at hingi ka ng COE. Ok na yan.

    Dun sa contract ko kasi sa previous employer ko, may bond ako kapag nag resign ako voluntarily. Ang nangyari, nag AWOL ako at na terminate. Ang tanong ko, may bond pa ba ako sa kanila o wala na?

    At pano kaya ako makakahingi sa kanila ng certificate of employment? Ang hirap makapag transact kasi nag AWOL ako sa kanila.

    Good point lol. Sobrang awkward/kahiya (obviously,) pero pakapalan na lang ng muka siguro.

    its better nga to talk with your previous company to clear things up. Just tell them the truth on why you left (health issue would be good enough but wag mo na banggitin *** event na sumama ang loob mo - it wont help your cause). But be ready for the backlash from them of course hehehehe.

    Now the issue is the bond. How much are we talking about here?

    Im sure na merong backlash, umalis ako without notice eh. Kaya ayoko din pumunta, kasi malamang eh di din naman ako welcome. Baka magpabigay na lang muna ako ng letter to HR/finance officer tapos tignan ko kung papapuntahan nila ko.

    Bond is 60k+ or (if negotiation allows, half of it - this was a previous offer with some conditions pero dahil nga sumama loob ko, di na natuloy ang negotiations).
