I posted this in another section but I want to know what you guys think ...
MANILA, Philippines – A hockey player of Filipino descent was drafted in the first round of the National Hockey League entry draft last weekend in Pennsylvania.
Filipino-Romanian Mathew Dumba, a 17-year-old defenseman, was selected seventh overall in the first round by the Minnesota Wild.
Born to a Romanian father and a Filipina mother, Dumba played for the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League the past three seasons, winning the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as the league’s top rookie after the 2010-2011 season.
Dumba was ranked among the top North American skaters based on the NHL scouting report.
But he is not expected to play immediately for Minnesota, as the Wild will most likely let him develop further in the minor leagues. -- Report from ANC.
And here's a video of him being drafted

From what I know Dumba is the highest drafted hockey player of Filipino descent at 7th overall. Commentators are calling him a future captain as well.
While normally I would argue that he is more Canadian than Filipino or Romanian for that matter; this is one of the few exceptions and I will take it if it means making Hockey and the NHL more popular here. Hopefully Filipinos will support him once he starts to hit his stride (if ever).
