medyo marami tayong din drive and kick kahapon.
i remembered lang a Maierhoffer 3-point shot before na bumuhay sa DLSU crowd. That gave us a mini run para makahabol. I forgot kung anong game yun.

Maraming great plays kahapon from both teams hindi ko lang inexpect na makikipagsabayan ang DLSU sa plays ng Ateneo.

    Still, kulang pa rin

parang may nabasa rin akong sold-out daw online ang tickets in just a minute ata yun.

And as expected, occupied halos lahat ng premiere suites.

    17,380 to be exact.

  5. #185
Baka maraming di pumunta kahit they have tickets na.

17k is way below the seat capacity of the arena which explains why 30-40% of the seats were empty.

i don't think that the mall of asia arena is a 20,000-seat arena. the regular seat capacity of the arena is 15,000. yung 20,000, baka kasama na yung SRO doon.

    Recap: ADMU beats DLSU 71-61

Blue Eagles Repel Green Archers' Arrows

Once again, rivals the Blue Eagles and Green Archers clashed on the hardcourt with a crowd of 17,380 in attendance. When the dust was cleared, ADMU was standing tall with a 71-61 victory in a highly entertaining and emotional game.

Ateneo's Tower of Power Greg Slaughter gave an impressive performance with 20 points and 7 rebounds while Nico Salva chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds and Kiefer Ravena added 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals to put the Blue Eagles wins at 3 in 4 games.

“Whenever you play La Salle, there’s no guarantee what’s going to happen. We expect the game to be close and there’s so much school spirit in the building; whether they have the most talent or we have the most talent, it doesn’t really matter, we know both teams will fight until the very end,” said Ateneo coach Norman Black.

The Blue Eagles were dominant during the first half of the game, with an emphatic 20-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. Ateneo then started the 2nd Quarter with a 16 point lead, before spunky DLSU guard LA Revilla blasted 10 points to rally the Green Archers and cutting the Blue Eagle lead down to 9 at halftime.

De La Salle continued their momentum in the 2nd half with the help of LA Revilla, Norbert Torres and Jeron Teng with a 16-7 run, tying the game at 42-42. Luigi De La Paz gave DLSU the lead at 45-44 with a 3-pointer. Ateneo then regrouped and took the lead once again at 53-50 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

It was during the 4th quarter that the Green Archers lost momentum and the Blue Eagles fought back hard, with DLSU comitting turnovers during the last minutes with ADMU taking full of advantage, thus securing the victory.

LA Revilla chipped in 16 points and 7 assists for the Green Archers and Jeron Teng added 13 points and 11 rebounds. DLSU's record now falls at 2-2.

Halo halo yung crowd sa MOA kahapon compared to the segregated setup sa Araneta. Halos magkalapit yung AS at BBB cheerleaders na nasa Lower Box.

What a stressful 3rd and 4th quarter. Nanginginig na ako while I was tweeting and stuff. I wasn't watching some of the plays anymore.

    Observations and comments:

-- Good for La Salle that they gave us a scare. It seems that the coaching staff this year is better than last year's. For a non-expert, it looked like they had a plan, but Ateneo was just too strong. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) That was an exciting game!
-- Webb is really a _______. Fill in the blanks.
-- LA Revilla - damn this kid can play. Someone has to help him out though. He fizzled out towards the end of the game.
-- I get scared when Jeron Teng drives to the hoop, kamikaze!!! Scared that he will hurt himself. But I guess that's how he really plays?
-- From up close, poor Greg Slaughter. Bugbog talaga siya ng kalaban (and this goes for all teams). And he can't be as physical because he gets called for the foul. In a way (a small way), his height is a disadvantage. Naawa ako pero I guess he's used to it.
-- HEY BOYS, WHAT IS UP WITH YOUR THIRD QUARTERS??? LAGI NA LANG!!! *glares at the team* STRESS!!!
-- Sigh, I hope we can improve our outside shots.
-- Juami should really step up, he had some bad decisions yesterday (napagalitan ni Coach Norman after 1 really bad, selfish play, when he had other team mates there)
-- Kiefer you are awesome, please don't split na your free throws.
-- I'm really not fond of how they split the gallery in SM MOA Arena, the way Araneta splits the gallery is better.

I know we won but the team can still improve...

    After how many years?

I'm from ADMU but i'm happy to see a much improved DLSU team from the previous years. It's not great for the fans when the game is lopsided.

Well, even if it was forfeited, the fact still remains that DLSU beat ADMU in those years, so count is still 34-all.

My bad. Yung 20,000 capacity pala is a full house capacity. The seating capacity is 16,000.

Tell your parents you believe in the saying "Cheaters always win". Win at all cost, never shall we fail I guess.

17, 380 tickets were bought.

The Games That Play Us: Timing

AdMU BLUE EAGLES over DLSU GREEN ARCHERS, 71-61

In basketball, as it happens often in real life, timing is the difference between success and failure.

A step too late on defense means your man gets open.

A pass made too early in transition negates what could have been an easy lay-up.

A run made too late means the win is out of reach. Conversely, a run made at just the right time means victory is assured.

With the Green Archers taking a slim 1-point lead late in the third quarter, the Blue Eagles uncorked a 13-3 run that gave them enough of a cushion to play keep-away in the waning minutes of the first ever Ateneo-La Salle game in the new MOA Arena.

That decisive spurt started at the 1:20 mark of the third and ended with a Greg Slaughter basket at the 5:50 mark of the fourth. At that point, Ateneo’s lead stood at 9 points, its highest since peaking at 16 early in the second canto. La Salle would last threaten after Jed Manguera’s three with 2:23 left, but the Blue & White successfully hit majority of their freebies to keep Gang Green at bay and eventually take solo second behind league-leading FEU.

Timing was key in this huge Ateneo win. A 16-3 blast bridging the first and second stanzas gave the Loyola quintet a 26-10 lead, but that big bulge came a little too early as LA Revilla sparked a furious DLSU rally that trimmed the deficit to single digits at the break.

Early in the second half, it was Coach Gee Abanilla’s wards who made a run. The Taft five outscored their Katipunan counterparts, 19-9, in the first seven minutes of the third to take the lead for the first time. Alas, that proved to be too early as well. Kiefer Ravena sparked the game-clinching spurt shortly thereafter.

That timely run by Coach Norman Black’s boys put a ton of pressure on La Salle’s stars to come through in the clutch, and, quite frankly, they just weren’t able to do so. In one sequence, the Archers had a 4-on-1 advantage in transition, with Nico Salva the lone defender in the way. Salva backpedalled then timed his jump perfectly (again, TIMING) to thwart the La Salle fast break. Late in the game, Jeron Teng committed a mental error by consuming all 5 seconds in a crucial inbounds play. The timing of that rookie error virtually sealed the win for Ateneo.

Hoops pundits say that basketball is a game of runs and peaks, but it is also a game of timing. A run made too early can feed complacency while a run made too late can be inconsequential. A team that peaks too early might be fodder for upsets later on in a season, while a team that peaks at the critical stages is often poised to challenge for the title.

This defeat for La Salle comes at a bad time, especially since they’re coming off a loss to FEU last week, and they’ll face the streaking UST Growling Tigers next.

On the other hand, this win for Ateneo comes at a good time. They enter Week 4 riding high on a 2-game winning streak and the prospects of extending that look bright against UP and UE.

When they reach the last few playdates of Season 75, both Ateneo and La Salle might look back at this juncture as the stretch that made or broke their season because in basketball, when it comes to winning and losing, one cannot overlook timing.
