Just for fun, post compelling arguments for any player other than MJ as Basketball's GOAT.
I'll start with two LA legends
1) Magic Johnson
a) All around winner - One of the few superstars to win championships with two different coaches. The only player to win Finals MVP in his rookie year. One of four players to win an NBA championship one year after winning a title in the NCAA. Most of all, the Lakers were title contenders for every year that he played.
b) Statistical monster - Career averages of 19.5 ppg, 11.2 apg, 7.2 rpg, 3 time Finals MVP, 3 time season MVP, averaged a near triple-double for an entire season more than once.
2) Kobe Bryant
a) Closest thing to MJ - MJ himself said that only Kobe deserves to be compared to him. Aside from the game and mannerisms, the desire to win, the need to dominate each game and come back each year with a new weapon. These are all hallmarks of Kobe and MJ.
b) Statistical monster - Averaged 40 points for an entire month in February 2003 and January 2006. 4 straight games with at least 50 points. Ridiculous Wilt-esque stats for a 6'6 SG playing in one of the toughest eras for wings in NBA history. One of only two players (Jerry West is the other) in NBA History to average at least 32.4 points and 7.4 assists in the Finals.
c) Longevity - A Top 5 player for the last 11 years. Voted by NBA GMs as the player they'd pick to take the last shot in a game for 11 years. Dominant on both ends of the court for a 7 year stretch in the 00's. 14-time All Star.
For the record, I still think MJ's the greatest.
