JACK REACHER - starring Tom Cruise

An adaptation of the Lee Child novel, One Shot, Jack Reacher is the title character, an ex-military investigator who uses his imposing physical size (6’5”, 250lbs) and service experience to track down a sniper. Jack Reacher also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and David Oyelowo, along with Werner Herzog as the villain. The film is scheduled to open on December 21st, 2012.


Synopsis:
Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.

And sure enough, ex—military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter–a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning–and then beat him shot for shot.

I sense a bomb ... no reaction from the crowd, minimal buzz? If it won't bomb it will still underperform. Plus his divorce with Katie Holmes won't help either since this whole thing kind of put his personal life back in the headlines.

I love Tom Cruise but hasn't really done any inspired work for a very long time.

i went to watch this movie with low expectations and came out not disappointed. lots of twists and turns, ample amount of action too

It's not the first time there's been a huge hue and cry over Tom Cruise being miscast (with Interview with The Vampire being the last I can recall, as I don't follow Cruise that much), but for all his faults, Cruise is a fanatically-dedicated actor who brings 120% to his craft.

He didn't need to scale the Burj Dubai in MI:4, but heck, the crazy bastid did it anyway. You just gotta respect that in the man.

At any rate, while Lee Child's hero is described in the books as a gigantic, burly 6'5", I had little problem accepting Cruise in the role. Maybe not as easy as I did accepting his turn as Lestat de Lioncourt, but the 5'7"/5'9" actor playing a character who was supposed to be a 6'5" bruiser didn't bother me. The same way the 6'2" and lanky Hugh Jackman didn't bug me playing what was supposed to be a 5'3" and stocky fella, nor a brunet Keanu Reeves playing the blond Constantine.

Stiiiiillllll....watching the movie, I couldn't help but wonder what someone like Mickey Rourke (in Marv character from Sin City) or Ron Perlman (in anything) would've brought to the role. Especially when it came to the snappy wise-as$ comebacks, as well as the physical, clobbering scenes.

Oh, well. Jack Reacher was a nice, solid ride. I dunno if it's gonna be a franchise-maker, but taken for what it is, I could've spent 2 hours and 10 minutes on something worse.
