If Ateneo has its Lux Domino, and Santo Tomas for UST...
UA&P boasts of the Opus Dei. But what is the Opus Dei? I'm planning to enter the UA&P. But I have no idea about the Opus Dei. Is it still part of the Catholic religion? Should I be Catholic to enter the school? |

Opus Dei is the conservative wing of the Roman Catholic church (from my book WHat is Opus dei) in other words, that's being a regular catholic to the 100th power.
I'm planning to enter UA&P too. My brother and sister's there na, My mum's sort of an Opus Dei pero grabe ha! Like in their library daw, The inquirer is chopped. They take out Tim Yap's article even the weight loss ads with fat-turned thin women in bathing suits. And Bernie Villegas or another guy told the students during orientation that UA&P is like the McDonalds of confession.... okay whatever |

Hello peeps.
Dropping in to say that I think I can answer your questions. Future freshmen kayo, right? UA&P does not boast of Opus Dei. It just so happens that the chaplaincy (the chapel, etc) is handled by OD priests. If youre from another denomination, its okay too. That's not a problem. UA&P does not claim to be a Catholic school, unlike Ateneo, or UST. Quote:

I am not, in any way, connected with UA&P or the Opus Dei, but I remember my UST professor in theology giving us trivia about anything pertaining to the Church, orders, religions et cetera. And one of the trivia bits was about Opus Dei. Opus Dei is a prelature of the Catholic Church --- meaning a Church government administrated by a clergy, especially a bishop, and is also composed of lay members. If my memory serves me right, it was founded by Escriva in the late 20s. Although founded in Madrid, its HQ is in Rome. Opus Dei literally means "Work of God", and is actually promoting the growth and development of Christian principles and values.
Hope that helps. ![]() |

My friend contributes in 2bu and my sister studies in UA&P and I told her to check it out one Wednesday, and she saw it nga. They chopped it off. I often hang out there after school ever since before ok naman. Heck I like the environment at UA&P, not as fun as the other universities but I like the feeling of high school ![]() |

On taking a school. Since youre a 7th day adventist, your faith will obviously be different from the one being taught at UA&P. But dont think that it's because the school is out to get the "heathens". No. LibArts, which you will take for the first three years, has extensive Christian philosophy and Theology courses. You will ALL have to take it. Because you belong to another faith, actually, youre put at an advantage. Tip: Take them all as objectively as if you were studying Math or Science. Basta kung anong kelangan, gawin. Di ka naman ico-condemn o ibabagsak kung di ka naniniwala eh. Actually, my Theo teacher, who's an Opus Dei priest, actually said that his best students were the ones who were not Catholic. They were more objective about the subject than the ones who were Catholic. Pero, kung medyo ilang ka talaga sa concept, I suggest maghanap ka ng alternative. Seriously. Because UA&P is so much more conservative and the students/teachers/admin/staff are very Catholic that it shows. Baka di mo ma-take. Im serious. Things might be better for your religious convictions if you went elsewhere. Pero on taking a school, you have to consider the best school for the course youre taking. Kung Med: UP, UST. Kung Law: UP, Ateneo, San Beda. Engineering: Mapua. Architecture: UST. You get my drift. In essence, it shouldnt matter if it were a religious school or not, kasi magaling naman ang training sa course. But if youre not that way, and you think that religion is part of higher education, look for a school that your religion endorses. UA&P is an Arts and Letters school. Maraming Arts and Letters school sa Pilipinas. If you want an Arts and Letters (Eco, Communications, Mgmt, IT, Pol Eco, Education) degree with oomph, I suggest UA&P! Shameless plug ba? ![]() Good luck on your choice. |
