Liberal Party ‘seriously considering’ Bam Aquino in senatorial lineup

The Liberal Party (LP) is so far seriously considering at least eight people for its 12-member senatorial slate.

Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II on Sunday said that aside from Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo Angara, Customs Commissioner Rufino Biazon, former Representative Risa Hontiveros and Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva, the other possible candidates “seriously being considered” were President Benigno Aquino’s cousin Bam Aquino, former Senators Ramon Magsaysay Jr. and Jamby Madrigal, and Deputy House Speaker Erin Tañada.

Roxas, the LP president, said on the phone that he had had “several conversations” with Bam Aquino and the two former senators.

“We are not strangers to each other so it was easy to talk to each other,” Roxas said in Filipino, specifically referring to Magsaysay and Madrigal, who were his former colleagues in the Senate.

Roxas said that at present, the party was looking at 20 names as possible senatorial candidates.

Although I'm not pro-administration(I have a neutral stance right now), I'm quite confident that manipulation of the election process itself will not happen simply because a large scale operation will need to happen for that to be possible(something we see in the movies). If this guy w/ no legislative experience wins, it will because there are actually people who are stupid enough to vote for him. If he wants to enter politics, he should aim for something lower 1st....

I believe political dynasties must end in our country.

But what if the candidate has the gravitas? Do we take the 'surname' against them?

I'm still contemplating not voting for candidates from political dynasties in the upcoming election.

I also agree that Bam Aquino should seek local office before going National. At least he is not a TRAPO.

Ok naman ang mga Aquino (for me), except Tess who performed a dance number in the senate a decade ago. It was funny though how it was spoofed by different comedians.

We have h.s. grads in the senate, Bam is definitely more qualified than those.

Though I agree, Senate is too soon for him though, sana nag congressman or governor man lang muna sya ng 3 taon.

I used to watch him in Breakfast when I was in college, he's really smart and articulate.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the sisters might throw her hat into politics. And I'm not talking about Kris Aquino. Pinky, Ballsy, Sleepy, Dopey or any one of them (they all look alike) seem to be always present during LP gatherings.

Personally, I do think Bam Aquino is qualified given his track record in academics, civil society and business, and more especially if you were to pit him against the other kids and spouses of political families aspiring for the senate seat. IMO, he even seems closer to the likeness of Ninoy in charisma and capability as compared to PNoy (people would sometimes think siya yung tunay na anak ni Ninoy).

The bad taste here is that he's still from a political family. Perhaps he should also try first getting his feet wet and establishing his political record first in Congress or in the city councils before aspiring for the Senate. He's still young and people will even be more convinced to give their votes if he proves his worth by working his way up.

Too bad Gibo isnt trying out for public office anymore really.

ahh.. TESSIE AQUINO ORETA... aside from being the Dancing Queen in the Senate, she also used to be famous for her campaign slogan "KAPATID NI NINOY!!". Yup, thats her whole schtick back then, no pretense of agendas or platform. Just stating a fact, "KAPATID NI NINOY!!" And it worked too, seeing how she got elrected and re-elected.

I was bemoaning the sad state of politics back then (too bad social media wasnt "in" during those times yet) but now looking back, Im thinking ... Hey. AT LEAST SHE WAS HONEST ABOUT IT.

Makes me wonder what would happen if all these people running follow her time-tested slogan and just cut the bullcrap on why they're running and why they are expecting to win...
