    CrewPex Dancing History

    Hello there!

This thread is for people who wants to share their experience with their dancing history. Stories on how you started to like dancing. Hope you share your story. Umpisahan ko na....

It all started when I was in 2nd year High School. Na involve ako sa dancing dahil sa PE subject namin. Our teacher, group us to form a dance number to be able pass for our examinations. At that time, I don't know if I can dance pero nung nagpapractice na kami, I can see myself na kaya ko naman pala. That year, if i remember, nakapag dance kami perhaps mga 3 dance number. This was the moment that i started to enjoy dancing until 3rd year high school. We are just dancing more on hiphop, jazz or modern musics. On my 4th year, i didn't focus much more on dancing anymore.

Until College, here it comes again. Our professor from PE subject, requires us to form a dance number. This time, it was on the month of december. So sumayaw kami ng pang christmas na theme. I remembered it was the music from Sex Bomb Girl entitled "Last Christmas". We really enjoyed practicing and it was a mixed of acting with music entitled "We are the Reason" by Martin Nievera together with "Last Christmas" na sinayaw naman namin. It was a very memorable to me during those moments that we always laugh and bonding with my classmates.

After my college, I started to work. I thought hindi na ako makakapagsayaw ulit dahil i assume na puro na talaga trabaho ang focus. Yun pala, kapag meron event sa work ko, they always preparing a special number especially during christmas. Nagsimula nanaman ang dancing career ko...hehehe...

I remembered, when I first dance at our office event, I danced 3 special number that time only. Actually, because of the technology that we have right now, few of our steps ay kinuha ko lang sa youtube..hehehe...

As you can see, I'm not a dancer talaga na sumasayaw at sumasali sa mga contest. I'm just a regular individual who like to dance and i think it's part of my life na rin. Nakuha ko ang talent sa mother ko...I'm very happy right now kasi natagpuan ko ang club na ito. I had to know different kinds of people and another circle of friends. Thank you very much CrewPex for this wonderful experiences that we share to other people with the passion of dancing.

    Ikaw? what is your story?...$=)

This is so inspiring cloud45. And your message for the CrewPex is really touching.

What I can still remember is that napahataw na lang ako sa dance floor one time during our Christmas party when I was in Grade 3, I think. We had a game called Stop dance. Macarena pa nga ata yung tugtog nun. hehe!

From that time onwards, pag nakakarinig ako ng mga techno, boyband (BSB/NSYNC) or Pop (e.g., Dr. Jones) or if I am watching dance groups dancing during school events, I felt like I want to dance with them but that can't happened so I just danced in my mind.

During high school, I wasn't able to focus on dancing already. Kung meron man, puro interpretative dance or song interpretation during school events. I was into singing that time. One thing I cannot forget during high school is when our group in choir was told to have a dance presentation. That was, I think, the first time I had to dance hip hop. After doing it, I felt really ashamed and awkward. Maybe, because I was not into that genre or I am more comfortable watching others dancing and not I am the one being watched dancing.

College came. I was more focused on studying that time. Not that much in extracurricular activities. Kung meron man, puro mga quiz bee lang tska yung mga cheering competitions during sports fest. I only had to join those competitions for extra points sa grades but not because I just want to dance. I thought I am not that serious yet in dancing.

Then I graduated, had a job and decided to join Fitness First club. I then discovered hiphop classes in FF. And from that time onward, I became serious already in dancing. Most especially, I gained self-confidence. Now, I am already a dance addict and I was able to meet other people who has same level of passion like teacher Ich and CrewPex, of course!

    Bow! (sorry napahaba)

    Nice thread Cloud45

Dancing was my first performing art, even before I started singing and doing theater. It was in July of 1990, during the Lingo ng Wika program, that I first danced on-stage. Obviously, it was a folk dance - Itik-Itik!

Folk Dancing has been my springboard into the world of dance and up until now I still consider dancing this a top priority. Incidentally too, our school is a top supporter of the arts and we have always prided ourselves of almost always ending up as champions in folk dance competitions, even in regional and national competitions. I never stopped dancing folk dances but my big break came on my 4th grade, when I became part of the school's representative to the Folk Dance Competition, competing against other schools in our city. It was one hell of experience - first time to compete outside of the school and, by some stroke of luck (or bad luck!), the dance was Sayaw sa Bangko! I literally had to dance on top of 3 layers of bangko (search nyo na lang sa net kung paano ang sayaw nito... hehehe). We went on to become champions and represented our province in the regional meet where we emerged as Champions. Because of this win, we were invited to perform in Taiwan (my first time to leave the country) along with the BAYANIHAN Dance Troupe (super idol ko sila so parang nanalo sa Lotto ang feeling ko!).

As I was doing this, dance groups emerged and I dabbled into the world of Studio Hip Hop Dancing, with the Universal Motion Dancers (UMD - yung samayaw ng Always with their signature butterfly move) as my idols. Then lumabas na ang ibang groups like Maneuvers, Abstract, X-People, and Street Boys.

They became very influential sa akin at sa mga pinsan ko so we created a group. There were 16 of us and we called the group Magz-16. We danced during our town fiesta until the local GMA network offered us a monthly stint in a local variety show aired in our province. This proved to be a major break for the group, but a major heart-break for me. Because of my size, people were laughing at me and I heard not-so-nice comments so decided to stop dancing with my cousins and concentrated on my studies. This was during my 3rd year in HS.

I never really stopped dancing. I still continued dancing and creating dances at school. I got recognized and, not to brag, had created a suite of dance originals that I myself created. The trauma of the ill-remarks I heard from people made me shy away from dancing on stage. Instead, I concentrated on choreography and creation, letting others do the moves that I thought of dancing myself. My frustration in dancing was channeled to choreography.

College days saw my hiatus in dancing. My frustration in dancing not only made me concentrate in choreographing but made me concentrate on singing and theater. People will not laugh at you because you are a fat singer or actor. If your piece suits you or if you play the part well, they will applause and you will hear praises. I found a new home in choral singing and stage production and my entire college life was dedicated to those two art disciplines. I did not even dare dance back then because my classmates were very good at it and I can't do any acrobatics anymore because of my "enormity".

It was only in 2010 that I tried dancing again. I went back to the gym and started to attend dance classes. There, I found my confidence back and people appreciated my dance. I was invited to audition as dance instructor but I still don't have the courage to do so until now.

I met some good friends in the gym and one of my "dance brother and co-addict" that goes by the name of Cloud_07 invited me to a group called PDC. It was March 23rd and I was very intimidated. And, for some stroke bad luck, the routine was Lyrical Hip Hop which was way out of my comfort zone. Well, there I was and I can't back out... So I just went with the flow... Danced for 3 hours with the very people that would later become my dance buddies - no, not even - people that will become dance siblings!. Thanks to newbie_101 for making me feel at home. First session, first time we met but it felt like we knew each other for years. KFC MCS saw the Shamcey-Chocolate sessions come to life.

CrewPEx has been instrumental to regaining my self-esteem back. Thanks Teacher Lambo for the opportunity. Thanks CrewPEx I LOVE YOU!!! hehehe...

BOW (ayan, napahaba din tuloy... hehehe)

Oi Gener. Ikaw ba yan?!?!

I am no dancer. But i dance a lot anywhere and anytime. Basta me feel akong song na naririnig. Noon pag nasa club with friends eh todo enjoy the music. My dancer friends, Chase and Bino, keep on inviting me to their dance workshops. Close friend ko kasi yung isa. But since iba focus ko ngayon eh hindi ako makasama sa mga Summer Dance Workshops nila. Maybe someday. But not yet.

@Gener: Yung isang tinutukoy ko is yung bayaw ni Arby Vitero of Japs. Dancer sila ng barkada ko from Team Vibe.

Yep bayaw ni Arby. Younger bro ng asawa nya. Mamaw yun. Promise. Mahirap imbitahin mga yun eh kasi nagtuturo na din sila. Yung studio nila is in Judge Jimenez lang naman. On-going yun but as of present nasa Malaysia pa sila for Dance Class din ata.

Uu naman. Yung 3 Melvins ng Team Vibe, 2 current and 1 ex-member. If you are referring to their leader Sir Melvin (3rd from left), met him twice lang kapag binibisita ko yung barkada ko sa studio nila, si Chase Tugade (1st from left). Kung si Vinz naman (2nd from left), oo kilala ko din. GF nya si Abby. Magaling din. Mga mamaw yan. Saludo ako sa talento ng mga yan. Kakainggit much.

Yun naman pala me history na kayo with them. Ayos!

i started dancing in Highschool. Mga streetboys stuff.
Then nung college i was part of our university-wide dance troupe/cheering squad, that was literally like 10 years ago

Then after college, mga 5 years na din akong hindi sumasayaw. I found a venue to dance again- of all places, sa office- when they wanted performances during special occassions.
During this time, okay naman kasi nakakasayaw ako paminsan sa ibang dance classes sa gym.
recently, sobrang busy ko sa kung ano ano- minsan na lang ako nakakasayaw, though i promised myself to give dancing more time in the near future
