google to launch an asus branded tablet w a $199 price!

oh this is great news- google will launch an asus branded tablet at just a $199 price! this will definitely take a lot from the iPad! this is the kind of market development that will set the tablet market on fire.

let's hope this is not too crappy as the ipad needs some serious competition, even though this is just on the price, it's great news just the same for consumers.

    ------

Google tablet set to limbo in at low $199 entry point
The Google Nexus tablet will be co-branded with Asus. More importantly, it will be inexpensive at $199.

by Brooke Crothers June 26, 2012 8:57 PM PDT

Google will launch a $199 tablet this week at its developers conference co-branded with Asus, Bloomberg is reporting.
This follows a series of reports that have been trickling out for months about a 7-inch Nexus tablet being developed with Asus. The tablet is slated to debut at the Google I/O conference that starts Wednesday.

The one feature garnering the most attention is price. At $199, the Google tablet is $200 less than Apple's $399 iPad 2.
Previous reports have claimed the Nexus device will sport the Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" operating system, a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of memory, and IPS (in-plane-switching) screen -- which boasts wide viewing angles.
The $399 iPad 2, by comparison, comes with a dual-core A5 and 512MB of RAM.

The Google tablet is expected, however, to have a 7-inch screen, considerably smaller than the iPad's 9.7-incher (which is also IPS, by the way).
Of course, apps are what matter to many, if not most, people. Though Google claims hundreds of thousands of apps, the iPad has more apps overall and more apps designed specifically for the tablet format, as reviewers are wont to point out.

Other expected Google tablet features include NFC (near field communication), Google Wallet, and Android Beam.
An 8GB model will cost $199, while the 16GB version will still be pretty cheap at $249, according to Gizmodo Australia.
It's worth noting this isn't the first highly anticipated $199 Android tablet. The $199 Amazon Kindle Fire was announced last year to great fanfare and a new Kindle Fire could arrive as early as July.

oh what a disappointment! google's tablet is going after amazon's kindle fire and not the iPad! i was hoping the direct competitor will be the iPad to get its price down!

Asus exec: Google 'targeting Amazon' with upcoming*tablet

Not that any further confirmation was really necessary, but Reuters has today posted a report citing an Asustek executive promising a co-branded tablet from Google and Asus. The anonymous company rep has said that Google's sights are set firmly on Amazon's Kindle Fire, the $199 media consumption tablet that's based on Android, but relies on its own application and content stores. Late last night Bloomberg identified Google's upcoming device as a 7-inch Nexus tablet that will match the Fire's $199 price point, and though Reuters' source refuses to be drawn on the specific price and release date, the implication is that both of those specs are indeed accurate.

Google Has Its Own Branded Devices Unlike Google which launches its own branded Android phones (Nexus series) with partners to give developers and enthusiasts access to the pure Android experience without any interference by the carrier of the OEM and also easy access to root. So, here Google is not competing with its partners. Instead it creating more market for its partners.

wait, what? Though I agree with everything else you've said.

Heavily subsidized to ng Google to promote Android tablets. Agressive na sila dahil pagdating ng Win8 tablets, byebye sa huge chunk ng marketshare.

Nexus 7 Review: $200 For the Best Android Tablet Around

There are a lot of things you can buy for $200: a plane ticket from New York to Orlando (if you book it early enough), two tickets to see Madonna in concert (again, if you get them early enough), and a pair of nice shoes. You can also buy a 7-inch Android tablet.

In fact, you have a selection of three 7-inch tablets to choose from at that price: the Amazon Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet, and the most recent addition, Google's Nexus 7.

The last one in that list is the newest kid on the block, and is the result of a partnership between Google and Asus. But is the latecomer the best $200 tablet on the market?

Hardware-wise the Nexus 7 single-handedly beats the $200 tablet competition, especially on screen quality. The tablet has a 1280 x 800-resolution IPS display, which is higher resolution than the displays on both B&N's and Amazon's tablets. Books and HD video look very crisp on the tablet and you can see what's on screen from all angles. It's not as crisp as the Retina Display on the new iPad, but that's a sacrifice I expect at this price.

I also prefer the design to the others. While the Nook Tablet has a unique design with a hook in its right corner, the Nexus 7 is more solidly built. It also has a nice grippy, rubberish back, which not only makes it comfortable to hold but gives it more personality than the Kindle Fire's plain jane design.

The 10.45-mm thick tablet, weighs only .74 pounds and is very easy to hold up in one hand. You'll want to check out our guide to tablet sizes -- but the 7-inch size is really best for one-handed use and reading while lying down. And despite its small size, the tablet still lasts long on a charge; the tablet lasts two days of on and off use before needing a charge.

The Nexus 7 doesn't have a camera on its back, which might be disappointing to some, but it does have a front-facing camera. However, you can really only use the front cam for video chatting since there is no camera app on the tablet. Video chatting with a friend through Google's Chat app was smooth experience, though he did complain about the quality being a bit grainy.

However, what the Nexus lacks in camera hardware it makes up for with its internal hardware. The tablet is powered by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 1GB of RAM, which makes the tablet very snappy. Swiping through menus is smooth and scrolling through long webpages is what Google's Android team is hoping I'll describe as buttery.

And that's because one of the new features in Android 4.1, or Jelly Bean, is its "Butter" enhancements, which refers to the new "buttery graphics and silky transitions." The software has been made to respond faster to finger swipes and gestures. And in use that new feature holds up: apps open fast and scrolling is faster than not only the Kindle Fire but other Android tablets on the market.

But there are some other new features in Jelly Bean that also make it better than those other Android tablets out there. (The Nexus 7 is the first device to run Android 4.1 -- Jelly Bean.) Google has enhanced the notification tray with expandable notifications, which show more about your alerts. But the biggest addition is Google Now, a voice-enabled search option similar to Apple's Siri.

    Sorry bout that, typo

    OnT:
This Google branded ASUS tablet looks promising, cause as we all know the Transformer Prime tablet is far more superior than other tablets currently available on the market IMO...

I want to see a Google tablet with a Quad Core 2GHZ cpu..

ship date is middle of the month. we will soon get feedback from actual usage from consumers on this product.

it looks good on paper and for the price.

the nexus 7 will also affect microsoft's surface when it finally launches end of the year. it's strange that microosft announced the surface ahead of nexus 7 but the nexus 7 is actually on sale way ahead of the surface.

poemtial buyers of the surface might not be longer there when they see that the nexus is good enough for their needs. bad decision on microsoft.

Well do you think that MS is competing or betraying it's OEM partners in releasing Surface?.. I don't know what ACER, HP, Dell, ASUS, Toshiba, Sony thoughts about that arrogant move from it's main supplier of their OS, MS..

It may affect it's relations with it's PC vendors.. Right now I have read too many articles on the internet regarding that matter. And it seems like MS doesn't care at all..

for sure hardware manufacturers are unhappy about this move by microsoft. with the surface, microsoft has move up to directly compete with hardware manufacturers who buy software from microsoft. in fact some manufacturers have already expressed disappointment.

the disappointment of hardware manufacturers with microsoft can turn to real worry since the tablet as started by apple is already eroding pc sales, cook's post pc era has begun.

maybe microsoft will change course after they launch surface to the market. we do not know yet if consumers will buy surface and at what numbers.

Yeah you're right, not to mention the soon-to-be release CHROME OS by Google will be the biggest threat for Windows 8 if MS refuse to settle this issue with it's OEM partners...

some stores in greenhills are selling nexus 7 - P18T! too much! this thing is supposed to sell at $200 or P8T, with profit, maybe P10T?

don't buy yet, wait for it to be sold at a sensible price.

^In the Philippines if they sell a $200 gadget (whether it is Tablet or Smartphone, Consoles) there will always be a 50% additional for it's original price, though some say that it is due to 2 year subsidy blah blah (whatever!), but then again it's not a concrete or valid statement for them to sell it over priced.. It's still unfair for consumers.

It is much convincing to buy gadget in USA via e-shops or direct to manufacturer's website like for example www.apple.com to buy their products, than to purchase there in the philippines.. If the product is trending or in-demand they will sell it at a high price.

Tubong lugaw diyan boss eh.. Just telling the truth

Here in Thailand iPhone or Galaxy 2/3 is not over priced.

I expect this to retail in the P11,500 to P12,500 range for the 16GB.

Asus products are hardly ever overpriced in the Philippines, provided that the distributor finally gets some inventory to go around.
