2008 World 10-ball champion Darren Appleton is the highest seed left at number 7. he won the US Open 9-ball tournament last year.
Ralf Souquet won this tournament in 1996 and placed second twice (in 2001 and 2006). currently ranked 14 in the world.
Naoyuki Ohi is ranked 33rd in the world. this is his best international tournament so far.
Lee He Wen is the first-time participant of this tournament.

Darren Appleton won the world 9-ball tournament in a dramatic thrilling finale against China's Lee He Wen, 13-12. Lee almost made a stunning comeback from 3-11 and 6-12 down and it took a jump shot on 2-ball by Appleton that luckily went into the side pocket in the final rack that sealed his first world 9-ball championship. With that win, Appleton will take over as world's number 1
