ASAP is the longest running, most-awarded top-rating Sunday musical variety show on Philippine television, currently aired weekly from 11:45am to 3:00pm on ABS-CBN and aired to over 20 different countries and territories through The Filipino Channel. Winning practically every “Best Musical Variety” award from every Philippine award-giving body and even recognized by the ASEAN TV awards, it has become the benchmark of quality family entertainment showcasing the BEST Filipino world-class performers in the last 14 years. ASAP is now widely acknowledged as a fashion and music authority in the country.
On its first telecast in February, 1995 live from the Delta Theater in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines, A.S.A.P. (All-Star Sunday Afternoon Party) started with 4 main host-performers: matinee idol Ariel Rivera, Miss Universe 1993 who became known as the "Dancing Queen" Dayanara Torres and erstwhile couple - the "Philippines’ Concert King" Martin Nievera, and the "Philippines’ Concert Queen" Pops Fernandez.
Along with the main hosts, other talents on the show were then upcoming teenage stars from ABS-CBN’s Talent Center and the Pare Ko cast, Claudine Barretto, Jao Mapa, Gio Alvarez, Roselle Nava, Victor Neri, Nikka Valencia and Jolina Magdangal later on joined by Marvin Agustin, Diether Ocampo and Mylene Dizon (from the youth-oriented show - GIMIK) and Rica Peralejo. The show served as a training ground for the teenagers.
Spearheaded by a talented, creative and competent production team with ace director Mr. Johnny Manahan at the helm, ASAP has consistently become “better than ever” through the years with numerous innovations in production numbers, hosting, music arrangements and set design. The original show format along with its host-performers have welcomed major changes.
One of the revered controversial program highlights was when main host Martin Nievera tearfully resigned on air due to his marital problems with wife Pops in 1998. ASAP then scored high ratings and reviews against its rivals.
When Dayanarra Torres left the country, Bb. Pilipinas Universe. Charlene Gonzales took her place and became the new dancing queen. Channel V’s Joey Mead also joined the show for a while. By 1998, regular guest Ms. Zsa Zsa Padilla became a main host-performer. After Martin Nievera left, award-winning actor Richard Gomez took his place. Although marked by controversies that include the Angela Velez- Regine Tolentino clashdance and the Martin-Pops saga, ASAP has survived.
In 2003, the show was reformatted as ASAP Mania. With this new format, a singing contest segment Star in a Million hosted by Edu Manzano and Zsazsa Padilla was born. Its enormous unprecedented success gave birth to a separate tv show that had a 4 season-run and to a new era of singing champions that were welcomed into the show that included Erik Santos, Christian Bautista, Sheryn Regis and eventually, Jed Madela, Mark Bautista and Sarah Geronimo.
It also ventured into a more youthful and hip show, called ASAP FANATIC that was a showcase for the hot talents of Star Circle Quest, pushing the careers of Sandara Park, Hero Angeles and Roxanne Guinoo among others, hosted by Heart Evangelista, Jodi Sta. Maria and Luis Manzano then.
By 2005, ASAP welcomed a new era of entertainment with stronger segments and truly the best of Philippine entertainment with a new set of main host-performers including youth icons Sarah Geronimo, and Piolo Pascual and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, In recent years, ASAP, being the home of world class performers has welcomed the likes of Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha, Journey front man Arnel Pineda and even the Most Talented Girl in the world Charice into the ASAP family.
In 2006, with the strength of the ASAP brand, being synonymous to quality entertainment, ASAP became a multimedia powerhouse successfully delving into recording (ASAP MUSIC) and staging live concerts and events (ASAP LIVE).
