Gerald Wallace Agrees To Four-Year, $40M Deal With Nets
    Jul 01, 2012 10:18 AM EDT

Gerald Wallace is close to agreement on a new with the Brooklyn Nets.

Wallace was acquired from the Blazers at the trade deadline in exchange for expiring contracts and what turned out to be the No. 6 pick.

Wallace's deal, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, is for $40 million over four seasons.

Nets could turn out to be the biggest loser in this year's draft. Crash is one of the more productive players in the last 6 years, but someone from the group of Rivers, Barnes Lillard, Ross and Lamb will have a better career than him.

Hindi sure yan. Ilang lottery picks na ba ang naglalaro nalang overseas ngayon? Sure, we can wait for them to develop. But there's nothing wrong with trying to win now. We already have a bunch of young guys that we can develop. Instead of waiting for a rookie to develop, why not Crash? We have here, right now, one of the top SF's in the league. Here's my post sa Brooklyn thread:

Love the sign-up. It's not really a saving face moment. BK has always said that he believes that Wallace will be in for the long haul. Of course BK wanted to sign Crash to a long term contract. It doesn't make sense to trade a lottery pick for a rental. Consistent naman si BK sa pagsabi niya na he's signing up Crash for Brooklyn.

Wallace, even with his daredevil play, is very dependable. I don't really get why people are saying that he'll suddenly become irrelevant in a year. He has 2-3 years of competitive play in him and I'm expecting him to average about the same. During his 4th year, it's not as if he'll suddenly be a scrub. He's at his peak right now.

Sure, injuries can happen. Pero sa lahat naman ng players eh pwede mangyari. Wade is older I think and basically plays the same (suicidal?). I have no problems giving Crash a 4/40 deal. Besides, we don't know the details of the contract. For all we know, the 4th year is a team option. Saka baka frontloaded ang contract. It's an overpay, yes. But come on. Teams overpay all the time. He would have walked and still gotten a 4/40 deal elsewhere. As long as the contract is not as bad as that of Johnson, Haywood, Amare or Outlaw, I'm good.

People are basically referring to his daredevil plays as if it's a bad thing. He's a warrior. He plays hard. He's the best SF we've had since RJ. People are overreacting just because it's cool to bash the Nets.

Worst case scenario is he'll help us be competitive for 2 years, be a veteran presence in his 3rd year and provide a steady presence sa bench, and be a valuable expiring contract by the 4th. Not bad. Also, I'm not sure but I think the Nets can use the stretch amnesty if things don't work out.
Saka by the time their rookie contracts are over, the Nets can make a play for them. Iba ang mag-saing at kami ang kakain. Haha! We need players that can contribute right now. We're not the Cavs na aminado na rebuilding.

We need to take a look at the next 4 years. Can you guarantee that any of those guys you mentioned will be better than Crash in the next 4 years? Kung Davis yan, oo. Kanya-kanyang strategy yan. Strategy ni BK is to pay for superstars and surround them with cheap, but effective role players.

Well just like I said, they might be the biggest loser in the draft. Hindsight is always 20/20 so no one can tell for sure. I can't guarantee that Barnes, for example, will have be better than Crash in 4 years. On the flip side, you can't guarantee that Gerald Wallace will be worth every penny of that contract, considering he's getting up there in age and his style of play will take a huge toll on him as he grows older.

I must give BK props for trying to win now though, but if someone from the aforementioned players becomes a star....

Batum has offer from Minnesota and meetings with Toronto, New Orleans

    http://www.csnnw.com/pages/landingbl...14&feedID=5212

Portland Trail Blazers restricted free agent forward, Nicolas Batum, has been contacted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and what is being called a "serious offer," has been made and discussed and the two sides will meet in Minnesota later today to deliberate on it further, according to a source very close to the situation.

The detailed figures that are being mulled over is a four-year, $45-50 million deal.
The New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors have also reached out to Batum's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, and meetings with those teams have been agreed on and will be scheduled shortly after the Minnesota trip, a separate source said.

Even if they become a star, Deron could be past his prime by that time. Nets won't wait for that.

Deron has stated that he wants to be in a team that wants to win NOW. And Billy King's recent transactions shows exactly like that. He's building a mix of veteran and young, dependable players that can surround D-Will and help him win. Deron won't wait for those rookies to shine. HE WANTS TO WIN NOW.

Lakers, Nets, Rockets discuss potential Dwight Howard trade with Magic
    14 minutes ago

The Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic have had preliminary contact about a possible deal for All-Star center Dwight Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Dwight Howard is pushing for a trade to Brooklyn, but can the Nets make a deal? (Reuters)Orlando officials are willing to discuss trades for Howard, and the Lakers have been one of the teams in touch with them over the weekend, sources said. The Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets have also talked to Magic officials, sources said.

While the Lakers have yet to make a direct offer, there's no scenario where Orlando would move Howard to the Lakers without getting back Andrew Bynum, L.A.'s 24-year-old All-Star center. Pau Gasol wouldn't fit the Magic's desires to rebuild with young players and draft picks.

The Lakers had been willing to part with Bynum for Howard in March, but those talks ended when Howard decided to decline his early termination option and remain under contract through the 2012-13 season.

The Magic reached out to teams Saturday and told them that they’ll discuss proposals about moving Howard, sources said.

Howard and his agent, Dan Fegan, have repeatedly told the Magic in recent weeks that Howard wants to be moved, and that his preferred destination of the Brooklyn Nets hasn’t changed, sources said.

Nevertheless, time is running out for Howard to be traded to Brooklyn because Nets general manager Billy King has begun to aggressively explore deals for players like Joe Johnson, Luis Scola and O.J. Mayo in an attempt to surround free-agent point guard Deron Williams with more talent. Williams is choosing between the Nets and Dallas Mavericks and could make a decision in the next several days. Sources say Williams' patience with waiting for Howard to eventually come to Brooklyn is wearing out, and that he’s likely to make his decision whether to accept the Nets' five-year, $100 million contract offer devoid of Howard as a factor.

The Nets have already reached agreement with Gerald Wallace on a four-year, $40 million deal and are working to re-sign Brook Lopez, another of their free agents. Their salary cap will be too congested to sign Howard as a free agent next summer. For now, Brooklyn could include Lopez in a sign-and-trade with young players and future draft picks for Howard, but the Nets probably can’t construct the most attractive package for Orlando.

The Houston Rockets remain determined to try to land Howard, and have several young players to offer as part of a package.

Simple, kayo *** ang team with a losing record na may pagasang makuha yung 2D.

Kaya *** ng cap space nila sila DWill, Howard at JJohnson?

Kaya mahirap ang job ng isang GM. It's either you'll be a genius with your move, or you'll be stupid and you'll get fired. LOL! Crash is a part of his grand plan of opening up Brooklyn with D-Will, Crash, another star, and young and effective role players. But if we end up in Brooklyn with just Crash and a bunch of young and effective role players, I'd rather rebuild at sayang yung 6th pick. Hehe. So I'd rather wait for his plan to unfold.

BK has been consistent in saying that he wants to win now and he doesn't want to build via the draft. He said that he wants to build via free agency.

I'm not a master at cap spaces, pero hindi ata. That's why I'm thinking na hindi totoo yung kay JJ. Tingin ko nagtutulungan lang yung dalawang GMs. ATL increases the value of JJ for trade purposes, and BK forces the Magic to do something immediately or else, the Nets won't be able to take in Howard anymore.

Mas gusto ko yung speed ng free-agent buzz sa isang lockout season. Every minute meron nangyayari and nakakapagdecide agad.

Ang slow ng news pag regular season.

I'm pretty sure the proud Boston Celtics would beg to disagree. I think they still have enough to contend this upcoming season. Sila na lang talaga nakikita kong threat sa East for the Heat. If the Nets manage to grab DH12 and form a good nucleus of Howard-DWill-GWallace+quality role players, pwede silang maging contender - probably not instantly this year but certainly in the upcoming years. But it all the depends "if" they could land both Howard and DWill.

EDIT: Looks like Dwight is really hell-bent on wanting to play for the Nets.
