Piolo Pascual talks about rare bonding time with fellow stars for Star Magic’s 20th anniversary

Naging magarbo ang episode ng ASAP noong Linggo, Hulyo 8 dahil ipinadiwang ang ika-20 anibersaryo ng Star Magic. Star-studded ang nasabing ASAP episode dahil more than 100 Star Magic artists ang dumalo at ipinamalas ang mga pambihirang production numbers ng mga sikat na artista.

Para sa huling production number, isang fashion show ang naganap tampok ang mga Star Magic artists mula nang itatag ito 20 years ago na noon ay Talent Center ang tawag.

Isang pambihirang pagkakataon naman ito kay Piolo Pascual, isa sa mga pioneer artists ng Star Magic, dahil madalang lang daw magkaroon ng pagkakataon ang mga artista ng talent arm na magsalu-salo. “Dito lang kami nagkikita kita eh, sa trabaho, sa Star Magic Ball, sa anniversary [at] sa reunion. It’s nice kasi lahat ng taga-Star Magic, mga trabahador… it’s refreshing to see them here, just to bond a little.”

Na-overwhelm nga raw siya sa dami ng mga artistang dumalo at ang mga dating fellow celebrities kung saan ang iba sa kanila ay hindi na active sa showbiz. “Andami, nahihilo nga ako. Sobrang dami from before, from the time that we were all starting. Tapos ngayon magkakasama kami. Andaming pwedeng pagkuwentuhan. I remember I was with Lindsay (Custodio), she was my [leading lady in my] very first music video. That was 1996 yata, so ‘yun andun sina Gio Alvarez and a lot of them like si Steven Alonzo kasabayan ko ‘yan. Ngayon ko lang nakita ulit, so para kaming galing sa school na nag-reunion, sort of alumni homecoming.”

Malaking karangalan naman para kay Piolo na maging isa sa mga pioneer talents ng Star Magic. “It’s a different high, I was watching the VTR, I was watching the fashion show, it’s nice how everyone has evolved, how they’ve become better people, more mature. May mga asawa na, may anak, may pamilya na ang iba. May malakas pa ring magtrabaho. It’s all nice, it’s a good feeling.”

Nagsimula na ring mag-swimming lessons si Piolo bilang paghahanda sa upcoming teleserye niya with Angelica Panganiban at Diether Ocampo, ang Apoy sa Dagat. “We had a story con already and I’m training for the swimming lessons kasi mahirap din ang training, ang dadaanan natin kasi skin diving, so walang gear,” kuwento ni Piolo.

Recently rin ay nagkaroon ng aksidente si Piolo dahil sa pagba-bike at nasugatan ang kanyang kanang braso. Pero pagaling na raw ang kanyang sugat at wala siyang balak na itigil ang nasabing sport. “Good thing I’m a fast-healer. Medyo may bukas-bukas pa pag naliligo ako, namumuti but it’s healing fast. Two days after [the accident] nag-bike agad ako [and] I’ve been playing badminton. One thing I’ve realized, it didn’t stop me [from doing sports], all the more I wanted to ride, nag-bike ako kahapon nang mag-isa.

“I remember when I had my injury during a badminton tournament, nagpahinga lang ako ng ilang buwan and then pagbalik ko naging mas agresibo ako sa laro, so gaya ng sinabi ko, it makes you better at nale-legitimize ang pagsali mo sa sports.”

This Pasionista bonding started differently.
When Lulu called in the morning and told
me there were going be 3 less attendees, I
said. “that's OK, we will be fine.” And then
she said that we need to make some changes
in our plans because of some unavoidable
circumstances, I hesitated just a little bit, but
said, “don't worry about it, kayang-kaya natin
ito. Pasionista tayo, all we want is to be together,
in whatever, or however, fashion.”

So off we all went. Sayang lang ang pansit at
ginatan na niluto ni Lulu overnite. She also
could not bring the bday cake for Gigi, because
we could not have the bonding in one of the
sister's house. Kinantahan pa rin namin siya
kahit na papaano.

It was great to see Marie who brought along
her daughter – it has been a long time that we
all have seen her. Ineng was there too, thank
goodness, and of course, the great Hallmark
poster Gigi na galing pa sa No CA. Pek joined
us later after getting lost somehow, and with
West Coast coordinator Lulu still stressing out,
and Joy & myself, we were off to creating mayhem
at the very well-attended Universal Walk.

Siempre, the banner, the mapangahas one, came
too. And when we finally unfurled it for a group
photo, akalain ko ba na mahiyain pala ang mga
sis. Lulu & I braved the stares of the people
around us and proudly raised the battle cry:
ASANISTA to the MAX! Eventually everybody
warmed up to the idea and more photos were
taken for posterity. I think a banner should go with
every bonding anywhere it might be – just like the
famous traveling gnome.

Because we have not heard much about our LT
recently, we created our own signs to keep us inspired.
The 2P sign at the parking lot, the purple dressed
Quincinera celebrant, I think the escort was in a blue
suit, Gigi's purple and blue pieces of luggage – piniga
na namin lahat. Nag ala Vivian mode din kami from LIP
& wished before a running stream where people threw
their money in. Anything to make our prayers come true.


When it came to lunchtime, we chose the Buca di
Peppo resto where the servings were huge, we had
so much leftover. Since the desserts doon were quite
expensive, punta na kami sa Max's in Glendale.
Order na ako ng halo-halo my way. Akala ko, the
rest will also order desserts, but then I heard the
orders for pancit, fried chicken & crispy pata.
What the Heck????? Kahit busog pa, willing na
naman lahat to eat the delicious-looking Pinoy
food items. Thanks to Ineng for the treat.

Walang katapusang kwentuhan, kanya-kanyang
opinion, maraming mga tsismis I have not heard
of. The tandem of Gigi and Lulu seems to have
the most positive input, based on their own personal
analysis. But that was quite enough for me, I came
with a low 10% Asaness level, and left with up
to 80 or 90% all over again. I resolved to stop hanging
out with Joy (too realistic!), and just stalk L & G
from now on – with P included, I am sure things
will be just fine. (JK, sweet Ligaya, okay?) He-he-he....

Finally, it was time to go. We checked Gigi in
sa hotel and took Pek home happy & content.
I asked myself again: Hindi ka ba nagsasawa
sa ginagawa mo? A whole day away from my
family so I can listen to the sisters about their
crazy analysis of PJ & Kristina's state of mind!
Still in la-la land, still with Marie's HOPE,
FAITH, LOVE, (btw, we saw this sticker in the
car in front - another sign?) and the belief that
EGBOK! If it's not, OK lang, I'll just mend fences
with Joy and start talking to her again!

Big thanks to Lulu for putting it together. She
is the most organized Coordinator ever, always
checking out details and thinking of all ways to
enhance the meeting. Bow ako sa iyo,Lulu. You
made it look easy and uncomplicated. Grace under
pressure. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Hi Tita B! It wasn't as stressfull naman because of your calmness hahaha... Siguro kung hindi ako nagluto it wouldn't have been so bad kasi nakatulog ako ng mas mahaba... pero it's actually good when I get to do things I'm not comfortable doing like driving to places I'm not familiar with... kasi I benefit a lot afterwards.

Anyways, it was fun fun fun as always to just chat and eat with you all. Kakaloka sobra mahiyain sila except Tita B and myself... actually mahiyain din ako but I don't know what got into me that day... maybe it's being my ASANISTA hahaha... talagang wa ako pakels kahit pagtinginan pa ng mga tao kahit na sa Max's resto na panay pinoy LOL! I'm so proud to show our banner kasi ang ganda kaya!

By the way, thanks Tita B for taking care of our dear Giginess after the bonding. Haaaay time flies so fast when you're really having fun... bitin na bitin always.

Thanks again to Inengness for the delicious dinner... sarap talaga ng pagkaing pinoy especially the crispy pata and the dessert!

Joyness, thanks for volunteering to drive Giginess in case she needs a ride. I hope I can be as good driver as you are... wait, di ba naligaw kayo papunta sa Max's? Kami hindi kasi ang galing ng GPS ko... si Inengness

Pekness, bilib ako kay hubby mo to drive you all the way from Corona to LA. Buti na lang nagka-usap tayo before you decide to drive back home hahaha.

Marieness, thanks for coming with your little girl. Bilib ako sa daughter mo for being able to stand our craziness for an entire day!

and of course my Giginess... what can I say... thanks for coming to LA a day earlier so we can get-together. Sorry late ako sa airport hahaha
