The website now says it has a FRONT and BACK camera![]()
I love it!
surface product fail during launch - it froze in the middle of the presentation. the speaker jabs the surface home button at least 20 times to get it to unfreeze itself but it did not work. the speaker hides the product failure by showing the back of the surface to the audience. after hitting the home button at least 20 times, he finally gives up and scoots over to the table on the side of the stage to get another surface.
is this the signs of the times to come with the surface? i wonder if the speaker saw the dreaded microsoft blue screen that let him to give up on the surface he was holding?
this product is a demo product, it's not yet the production product so maybe they will be able to fix this for the normal production run. it's a terrible thing to happen during a product launch.

Di ko lang gusto yung name na "Surface". Sana Microsoft Panel or Microsoft Pane na lang, mas bagay lalu na dahil Windows nga eh.
The keyboard and stand are definitely welcome but not exactly high-tech. What I'd like to confirm is if it has a true stylus that deactivates detection of your hand when you use it so you can rest your hand on the screen? If it does, I'm willing to bear a 5-6 hour battery life (compared to iPad's 10 hour)...
After purchasing an expensive Microsoft Touch Mouse recently and being gravely disappointed with its usability, I have serious doubts about Microsoft's ability to engineer a good user experience on their machines. I upgrade to the latest and shiniest Microsoft and Logitech mice and keyboards once a year and I have to say the MS hardware always suck (they have great packaging and presentation and do feature advanced technology - but the actual usage experience is subpar compared to the cheaper Taiwanese brands) and yet every year I never learn... sigh...
What I'd REALLY like to see is a Samsung Windows 8 tablet because Samsung have proven that they are the #1 device maker - leaving Apple in the dust of course - but Android on Samsung devices is suboptimal and we'd really like to see Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 on them. WHY is Samsung so quiet on this front???
So any demos of the keyboard cover? Can anyone (Redmond) post videos of the keyboard demo?
And battery life...i hope it won't be like 4 hours.
Thanks,
iponmuna
This guy sounds like Steve Jobs (the maniacal attention to detail)... which - as we have seen with the iPad - is a good thing. But if this happens to be the same guy behind the Microsoft Touch Mouse... then it's all BS.
Microsoft (after countless snafus) finally got software right (at least for those of us who jumped from XP straight to Win 7 and didn't try out Vista). But I'm not so sure about hardware... hands up those of you who actually love their Microsoft Mice and Keyboards (and have actually tried Logitech's).
Highly unlikely to be true... getting the keyboard to work shouldn't involve anything complicated. I'm willing to bet money on the above being wrong. If they don't launch end of this year, it's not going to be because of the keyboard. If they do launch by end of year, the keyboard is going to be there, of course.
I'm already seeing negative reviews (i.e. speculations) from tech sites and bloggers regarding it not having 3G, having not so responsive touchscreen, not so good UI, poor battery life, and high cost- which makes it a non-"iPad-killer".
The same sites speculate about the awesomeness of iPhone5 though. So there.
^awesome agad iphone 5? may actual units na ba? fanboy site napuntahan mo noh.
nabasa ko naman na ang speculated price ng Surface e nasa $599
Surface Tablets rumors on pricing and being WiFi-only make their rounds
eto naman review nya:
Hands on: Microsoft Surface tablet review
karamihan naman ng comments na okay lang sa kanila kahit walang 3G yung Surface, dahil mahal maningil ang telcos sa data plans..

Yep, 'nother clueless fantard site...Originally Posted by Fenix

1) not having 3G - kind of a bummer... but it does have a USB port(s?)... unlike a Wifi-only iPad
2) not so good UI - that's definitely an open question... maybe people here who have used Metro can weigh in... my friend isn't so happy about it. Gizmodo's Sam Biddle says that Win8 is fantastic and "very daring" (), but then Gizmodo has a bone to pick with Apple.
3) poor battery life - there's 2 kinds of Windows 8, one runs on ARM (so-called Windows RT) and the other on Intel... the one on ARM is supposed to have much better battery life, the one running on Intel, however, is the ONLY version which has access to the vast universe of Windows apps. In this case, you can't have your cake and eat it too, because Windows apps, unlike iOS apps were not written with a tablet environment in mind... I'll take (true) 5 hours battery life if it can run the Windoze apps I need... meanwhile I'll still definitely keep my iPad on the side.
4) high cost - likely to be true and possibly a BIG strategic mistake on Microsoft's mistake, tablet makers have also been complaining about the cost Microsoft is charging for licensing Windows 8. I don't think Microsoft are aware that they are fighting for their future as a consumer OS platform here. They can always retreat to their business customers but then that means Apple will eventually own the consumer space (they are already at the gate!) and then possibly slowly chip in on the business front. Of all companies, Microsoft should know that the OS contest is ultimately a winner-take all game.

Panos Panay is a good presenter... although he could just lighten up a bit.I daresay what he says has more substance than even Steve Jobs (Jobs still exuded more charisma - but that's probably due to his reputation preceding him). Sinofsky (the other bald guy besides Ballmer...) actually isn't that dynamic a presenter, although he has a reputation of getting complex projects done on time.
But the proof is going to be in the pudding... so far I consider the above hype and only time will tell if they can walk the walk. I'm not happy with my experience with Microsoft Hardware so far...
btw @4:20 in the video proves that the keyboard works contrary to what someone in this forum was speculating.
That keyboard is definitely some piece of work...!
Since it can measure the force you put on it, rather than just on/off, you can use it as a music controller with aftertouch response!!
Samsung already has Slate. It has the same tablet configuration, you can attach a small keyboard (though you have to lug it around separately), probably has the same price range and battery life, and most importantly runs a full Windows7 OS.
What's significantly better with Surface?
