Angry Bishop accused of diverting millions

MANILA, Philippines - Tempest is brewing in one of the richest dioceses in the Philippines.

Priests and lay leaders have asked the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Giuseppi Pinto, to look into the finances of the Diocese of Parañaque under Bishop Jesse Mercado for alleged misuse of funds.

They also want Mercado removed, for sowing division among the clergy for his double-standard policy.

After meeting with the papal representative a few times, the group finally secured a commitment from Pinto that he will refer the complaint to the Curia in Rome.

Hah hah hah...its about time someone look into the financial shenanigans of these "men of the cloth". People like him are the main reason why more Filipinos are renouncing their Roman Catholic faith

    Jesusmaryjosep!

Wake up adherents of the Catholic Church DEMAND more control of OUR finances. The bishops should NOT act as if those riches are their personal pocket money.

Buti pa El Shaddai now implementing accounting starting from personal donation to infrastructure development.

the holy roman catholic church is guided by the holy spirit. bakit kailangan pa ng accounting?

    hello?

Whatever happened to responsibility over finances over at the Diocese of Paranaque?

There are other churches and religious organizations out there that do their own accounting and record keeping.

Where's the transparency over at Paranaque's Diocese?

"This reporter asked Mercado to provide documents or receipts that could prove how his diocese used the calamity funds donated to it. He shot back: “What for? Why are you asking for that?”

Told that the issue is financial transparency, Mercado replied : “Are we required to present it to you? Why are we required to present it to you?” He added: “What do you mean by transparency? Do we need to be transparent to you?”

    Seriously, boo this man

If he is guilty of any illegal wrong doing I hope he is jailed. With great trust comes great responsibility. In case of donations - mahiya po kayo bishop!.

I hope some concerned parishioner will at least file a civil case. Imagine asking for money for a specific purpose, but diverting it for other things.

This is similar to ABS-CBN Foundations Ondoy campaign. They ask money for Ondoy but a large chunk is kept for future use. Imagine if these typhoon or fire victims got 100% of what people donated for them.

    Scums!

    Scums!

Parishioners should just boycott the church....or as posted by one PExer...maybe when he is celebrating mass one should just shout MAGNANAKAW and just walk out.

if priests can castigate people in church, why cant a churchgoer do the same...

This man is definitely scum and should not be in the service of the church..

and what nerve in the video....
