BDO Checking Account

I was planning to open a BDO checking account. But the account officer at BDO said that I must first have a savings account with them before I can open a Checking account and the savings account should have a maintaining balance of 50,000 and that I must have a savings account with them for at least 6 months. Why can't I open a BDO checking account immediately? Is this the BDO way ?

This is almost every bank's way when they do not know the client opening the checking account, and are unwilling to take risks doing businees with him. Checking accounts are often used fraudulently, and the bank wants to make sure you are not the kind of person who would do that.

oo ganon na nga.. usually kasi ang purpose naman talaga kaya nagoopen ng checking account for issuance of checks.. at kailangan sure ang bank na kaya mong mag maintain ng ganong amount.. para maiwasan na din mga tumatalbog na checks.. yun iba kasi nagoopen ng checking account alam naman nila kelan transaction date nun hindi pa pinopondohan tapos once macharge sisisihan pa bank for not informing them na insufficient ang funds nila for that transaction. Sa totoo lang sa dami ng ginagawa sa bank wala ng time para isa isahin ng officers yang bagay na yan.. kaya dapat sariling responsibility na ng client ang pondohan ang account nila once may issuehan sila ng checks.

Dapat po ba kung saan ka nag-open ng account, dun ka rin mag-open ng checking account?

Ito lang ba requirement? O kailangan pa ng proof of business ownership like DTI certificate, etc.

^^ hindi na kailangan ng DTI,Business Permit or BIR Registration kung personal checking account.
at least 6 months yung maintaining mo na hindi baba ng criteria nila saka ka mabibigyan ng checking account.

pero ako di ko maintindihan kung bakit hindi ako pinayagan ng branch manager nung BDO (dun mismo sa branch kung san ako may account at dun din pumapasok *** remittance at sweldo ko)

siguro dahil 19 y/o palang ako that time.. (dahil dun, napadpad ako sa BPI.. haha)

Will you be here in the Philippines to open an account? Personal appearance is often needed because you have to sign signature cards.

Also, as mentioned above, you also need to maintain a savings account with this bank that is at least six months old.

Government issued IDs - bring at least 2 of them to be sure: Passport, Driver’s license, PRC ID, NBI clearance, Police clearance, Postal ID, Voter’s ID, Barangay certification, GSIS e-Card, SSS ID, Philhealth card, Senior Citizen Card, OWWA ID, OFW ID, Seaman’s Book, Alien Certification of Registration/Immigrant Certificate of Registration, and other Government office IDs

copies of 1 x 1 ID picture

a billing statement to validate your address (telephone bill, electricity bill, credit card bill, etc)

Not sure though if you are a Filipino or a foreigner - for foreigners who are permanent residents here the Alien Certificate of Registration may (or may not) be required.

and of course, the cash that is at least the minimum maintaining balance required by the checking account that you wish to open with them (depends on the type of checking account you are after)
