nokia's 2qtr results announcement on july 19 will be a massacre for nokia for sure. a loss is for certain, just need to know if it's lower or higher than previous qtr.

the point of interest would be 2 things : 1) how did the lumia do in sales 2) what are the immediate plans to save the company.

i think the best news would be an announcement that ceo elop and the board will be replaced as soon as possible.

Aye, in japan if company is struggling due to tough competition and lower sales, the CEO and Executives are resigning without pressure from the Board of Directors and Investors. More worst is if they commit Harakiri because of shame

I think Europe should learn from Shintaro not Uncle Sam.. (Not saying they should commit suicide lol)

that is one of the mysteries of what nokia has done - why it did not go big time with nokia 808 and the other is the N9. those are two very good handsets that are unique in the market and works very well. they dropped those and instead went with Lumia and windows phone.

Nokia Q2 net loss deepens four-fold to 1.41B euros

HELSINKI—Nokia posted a deep second-quarter net loss Thursday of 1.41 billion euros ($1.74 billion), four times more than during the same period a year earlier and more than double the loss expected by analysts.

The Finnish company, which is struggling with an extensive restructuring, acknowledged that the three-month period, which also saw sales plunge by 19 percent year on year, had been “a difficult quarter.”

Why should Nokia go with 808 and N9?

Are you implying that the Lumia isn't a good handset and not unique enough?

    Oh, because you're anti-Microsoft.

How is Symbian or Meego any better than Windows Phone 7?

Nokia Loss Widens as Smartphone Sales Slump

Embattled Finnish mobile handset maker Nokia Corp. NOK1V.HE*+14.00% posted heavy losses Thursday as shipments of its new line of Lumia brand phones failed to make up for slumping sales of its older models, but its cash position proved stronger than expected alleviating fears that a rapid cash burn could hamper a turnaround.

Nokia's net loss for the three months to June 30 widened to €1.41 billion from €368 million a year earlier, against analysts' expectations for a €654 million loss, but the company's reserves of cash improved by €306 million year on year primarily due to receipts from patent licenses and support payments from Microsoft.

Nokia shipped 10.2 million smartphones in the second quarter, down from 16.7 million a year earlier, while total shipments including more basic handsets fell to 83.7 million from 88.5 million. The average selling price of Nokia's smartphones rose to €151 from €141.

Earlier this month, Nokia halved the price of its flagship Lumia 900 smartphone in the crucial U.S. market. While the company referred to that move as "normal strategy," the launch of Lumia 900 has been described by analysts as lackluster, and the range also took a hit when it turned out that current versions of the device won't be compatible for an upgrade to Microsoft's coming Windows 8 software later this year.

with a 2qtr financials not netter and even worst than previous, nokia will need to take even more drastic moves to save itself or go bankrupt.

It's hard to imagine what Nokia is planning right now, their company is keep on falling down due to tough competition slow sales of their Smartphones...

I can only speculate that if they file a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, MS will be the closer one to buy majority of their stocks and Patents, y'know Patent War chest, that's what trending right now in the Smartphone wars.

Elop is the Trojan Microsoft had successfully installed in Nokia. They wanted to be in the mobile business (and expand their patent chest) and the cheapest way to get into it is through Nokia. They, well everyone actually, knew that Nokia is on the brink of bankruptcy and since they've managed to infiltrate the company with one of their own, they are currently executing their dirty plan. The plan is to let Nokia drown and when it's at its weakest, MS would salvage the company and buy the once great Nokia for the cheapest price.

I love Nokia and how they touched the Filipinos' hearts. I know that this is merely a conspiracy, but I am very much inclined that this is why these things are happening to Nokia.

another ratings company downgrades nokia's debt papers as junk.

    ---
Nokia Debt Rating Cut to Junk at Fitch

Nokia Oyj (NOK1V)’s debt, already at junk status at the three biggest rating companies, was lowered further by two steps at Fitch Ratings after the Finnish mobile- phone maker’s second-quarter loss widened.

The long-term rating was cut to BB- from BB+ with a negative outlook, Fitch said in a statement today. Nokia yesterday reported an operating loss at its handset division equivalent to 9.1 percent of revenue adjusted for some items and forecast similar losses for the current period.

“If these operational losses are not reversed, the support that the cash cushion gives the rating is going to be eroded faster, which could lead to further downgrades,” Fitch said in its statement. Fitch cut Nokia’s debt to junk in April.

calls for elop to resign as CEO will increasingly be made in the following weeks after the 2qtr results were released.

    -----

Some investors said patience may soon run out. Juha Varis, who holds Nokia shares as part of the Danske Invest Finnish Equity Fund, said Elop was likely to come under pressure if there was no breakthrough by the end of the year.

"If Windows Phones stay at current levels, I think they have to do a Plan B. They would need to do something drastic, and I think the view is that Elop is not that guy," he said on Thursday as he read through the results.

Nokia revival hopes fade as analysts cut targets
    Reuters | Jul 21, 2012, 12.05PM IST

HELSINKI: Analysts cut their price targets on Nokia to little more than the value of its cash and patents on Friday as hopes fade that phones using new Microsoft software can revive the ailing mobile company anytime soon.

The launch of new Lumia smartphones, expected to start in September, has turned into a make-or-break event for Nokia boss Stephen Elop, the architect of a tie-up with Microsoft which has so far done little to resurrect the firm's challenge to the dominance of Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy models.

But confidence is low after Nokia reported a thumping quarterly loss on Thursday and warned of another big splash of red ink for its phone business in the third quarter.
