    how to start modeling?

hi! i'm a novice with all these i have a passion for fashion (specifically modeling) but i'm not a pro. i know i'm a little too late to start at 23 and i believe that there's no harm in trying
could you help me sort out where and how to start? like prepare my porfolio, get some photos taken, attend go-sees and eventually sign with an agency.

any info is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

Find a photographer to work with, practice in the mirror, look at other photos.

I think your watching America's Next Top Model. You'll pick up lots of pointers from Tyra and the rest of the fashion experts there.

Most iconic quote from Tyra in ANTM is "You have to want it"

So if that's your passion then GO. And goodluck.

@loc0-yep thanks! that's on my list =) problem is i have to look for one though. i know a friend who did a freelance modeling and referred me to some photographers who don't ask for any compensation for their service.

@jeanie9- i used to be a fan of antm. but then, as i read fashion blogs and as what the fashion people says, antm is a trash! even the alumi of the show (fatima siad and brittani kline now "autumn") who made their way to the real modeling world, tried to dodge from their antm ways but still credit their experience and perhaps exposure too. i stopped tuning in since the all-star season, its all about the drama and not the competition itself and i find way too boring afterwards.

tyra has the power to seed thoughts to people. from a fashion model to a business mogul, she was even featured in time magazine for making it to the top 100 most influential people in various fields. but yes, her words of empowerment could be beneficial. thank you!

Hire/get a photographer and make a set card...submit it to modeling agencies or get help from PMAP/ or any modeling associations to started.

There are a lot of amateur photographers out there who can do this thing for you for free...mag x deal na lang kayo like put his name in your set card.

Modeling Agencies Directory (though not complete)

Good luck and here to help,

Honestly, I haven't gone to a studio yet I'm quite busy with my job and a little lazy too during weekends. I hope I could find a photographer anytime soon..

Thanks for the links! Those are really helpful. Yung friend ko kasi hindi pa nagrereply sa emails ko. She's been with a few photographers before when she's still skinny.

Doesn't have to be studio. Ambient light looks great if you can find a photog who can work with it.

I used to shoot for portfolios, events, and small time fashion designers but I haven't done it in a while, busy with other things.

You're def right! and I have got to say, you have an awesome job or hobby or whatever it is.

Question, as a newbie, what kind of photos (and how many) do I need to have primarily? aside from the headshots, body shots and frame-wide face photo? --- to complete a portfolio

    thanks

it depends din kasi minsan kung san ka magpapasa...if that pose will have an impact to what they're looking for...or gawa ka ng madaming shots.

You can just google "model set card" images para you can have an idea on what you should give to agencies.

    hth,

A comp card typically contains a minimum of two pictures — cover page with full size portrait and a second page with a broad selection of representative shots from the portfolio — and the model's basic stats — typically height, weight, three sizes for women (bust, waist, hips) and for men (suit or chest, waist, inseam), shoe size, eye and hair color, nationality and contact information — printed on both sides of an 8.5" x 5.5" piece of card stock (12 pt stock) (US) or A5 on card weight (350/400gm2 stock in metric countries) which is between 300 and 450 microns thick depending on the card stock or quality chosen (Europe, Asia).
You'll want to update it often if you're going for it as a career.

Also it's comp card or sed card (named after Sebastian Sed). Set card and zed card are misnomers.

Thank you so much guys for all the help!!
I'm soo fascinated by the comp cards. I've seen some before but I did not pay much attention to them.
