Ano ang ibig sabihin ng Mark 10:21?

    Mark 10:21
Jesus answered a man and said you lack one more thing, sell all that you have and give to the poor and you will receive treasure in heaven and then come follow me.

It is the least followed direct instruction from Jesus. Christians prefer Paul's instruction to discriminate against women and gays.

Those serious about seeking the Truth (eremitic-philosopher types) would naturally do that without being instructed.

Two forces that attracts us selfishness and love. Our mind is too selfish and our hearts is filled with love. (For those of us who have spiritual hearts, maybe some already lose it, because full of guiltiness)

As long as we let our eyes be attracted by wealth we will never be achieved perfection of love. Only those who have the spirit who can abandon their wealth without worries is perfect in humility and love. A humble doesn't own anything, but a a selfish person wants everything. A humble persons follow one direction, but selfish persons have different directions , because of desires and ambitions. Sell all your wealth and give to the poor and the treasures of delights and peace of mind and wonders of life will be yours. By doing that he will achieve virtues, discipline and patience so that he could live without too much worries about life in poor and in rich condition.

The message shouldn't be taken literally.

The general idea is that one must not be too attached or obsessed of material things because it hinders spiritual development.

An ironic scenario is when someone half-heartedly gives up everything for the poor but he's full of regrets of losing his things. Or someone who does it just to become famous and brags about it. Giving should be done out of real concern and love to other people.

Nothing about Jesus is literal. He was a metaphor.

When he said, "give all," this is how various groups interpret it:

    A. Early Christians - actually they interpreted it literally

    B. Current INCs: 10%, although nobody admits it

    C. Catholics: 0.01% or slightly more, depending on the dictates of the heart

    D. Evangelicals: flat out 10%, with tax credits in the US

    E. Minor cults, Benevolent Society - higher than 10%, + slave labor, plus possible confiscation of property.

The TS ought to read the complete passage. The rich man knew God's will. He understood and followed the Law. But he wants PERFECTION. Jesus invites him to become an apostle perhaps. However, he needs to give up his possessions since that would free him from responsibility. The charity that he generates would buy him wealth in heaven.

In a way, that rich person would have been immortalized if he had become an apostle. Jesus then explained the issue of wealth. He reiterated the proverbial wisdom that no one has been known to take his possessions to the afterlife. He used a metaphor where he compares the rich man's entry to God's Kingdom to a camel passing through the eye of a needle. But his apostles suggest a different angle to the parable. Jesus dispelled the wrong idea by saying that all things are possible with God.

    It is what it is.

Christians will make all kinds of explanations so they won't part with their worldly possessions. Oh, it shouldn't be taken literally my a$$.

    the Lord never lies.

it is something that each of us are guilty of, each of us lack

no matter how you do it, you can't do it, it will be always our lacking

but praise the Lord that there is a way to answer to this lack

we just need to follow Him
admit that we can't do it, and with the Lord's mercy and grace we can be uplifted from this lacking

The rich man followed the ten commandments faithfully. But, Jesus tested his heart whether he is going to sacrifice everything for the gospel which includes persecution and hardship along the way. Jesus was commanding him to leave everything for the sake of the gospel just as the discipiles had done. However, he loved his wealth more than God. He didn't put God above everything. He loved his wealth first.

God saw men as being materilistic and always loving wealth, prestige, money, the world, etc. That's why it's impossible for a man who loved wealth and worldly pursuits, to put everything behind and preach the gospel. His desires for worldy things are more important to him than God. The gospel is something of a nuisance to them and have no time for such nonsense.

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24 NIV)

A Christian has to fully dedicate his/her life to the gospel as a top priority in life. Otherwise, you will take part in the fulfilment of this parable:

"His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. "'So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' (Matthew 25:26-30 NIV)

Just as there is punishment for not doing your mandate as a Christian, there is a great reward for those who took the risk:

"Truly I tell you," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first." (Mark 10:29-31 NIV)

Just how many Christians today have already done this? You don't have to do it old school style. There's the internet to spread the gospel. No excuses.

Jesus is the Master and Christians are the servants. If you were the Master and gave the tools to a servant to use, like the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine, detergents, soap, etc. to clean the house and what the servant did was to watch t.v. and talk on the phone to gossip, and when the Master came back and he sees the house in a mess and dirty, wouldn't he get so angry with the lazy servant?
