either way, lalangawin. hindi kayang punuin even 75%. and most of the crowd will be on the bleacher section.
i suppose the management of moa don't want to create an impression that events in their venue, specially on its opening, flopped. btw, it will be seen on nationwide tv. it only make sense for them to give the sched. to pba, concert promoters etc.
on ncaa side, it boils down to revenue.

I don't think flopping during opening ceremonies is an issue. We constantly have ample crowd from different schools especially that most schools obligate their students to buy tickets and watch it in SMART-Araneta before. It would've been beneficial to some teams, most especially to UPHDS who may be able to bring in more than the usual since they only need to travel via Coastal Road if it happened in MOA. Add the Intramuros schools to the fray and you can imagine the sudden increase in people traffic outside the venue. And we're not even counting CSB and EAC students flocking to the opening ceremonies. Retaining them is a different issue but at least ticket sales will be up by the time the first televised games happen.

But I would tend to agree that we may not be able to fill SM MOA Arena on a weekend, especially if there are special events like concerts, or even the PBA that may be able to attract more than just collegiate basketball fans. Business is business as they say. And who knows, SMART-Araneta and AKTV guaranteed security in their own MOA with NCAA MANCOM that they won't be bumped or at least be bumped to SJ Arena, and it would mean less logistical problems for AKTV while retaining coverage for every school playing.

all speculative. you see, businessmen are not gamblers. only 2 games (4 teams) and no SBC. that's a high risk to take.

btw, my statement "i suppose the management of moa don't want to create an impression that events in their venue, specially on its opening, flopped".. i'm referring to moa arena opening/inaguration not the ncaa opening. looking at their perspective, imagine a venue with 20k+ capacity with only 2K watching and most are at the bleacher section.... and worst, it is being shown on nationwide tv. you get the picture? not good right?

Not all businessmen are gamblers. Investing in a venture or a business has it's risks as well but a feasibility study should solve that. Understandably, they did their homework on the NCAA's crowd turnout every season.

btw, my statement "i suppose the management of moa don't want to create an impression that events in their venue, specially on its opening, flopped".. i'm referring to moa arena opening/inaguration not the ncaa opening. looking at their perspective, imagine a venue with 20k+ capacity with only 2K watching and most are at the bleacher section.... and worst, it is being shown on nationwide tv. you get the picture? not good right?
So why did SM MOA Arena agree to sign a MOA with the NCAA? For publicity? There had to be concessions on both sides to make it work and crowd turnout would've increased given the location to schools from Taft, Intramuros, and UPHDS. I just don't buy the idea that we can't deliver the crowd when accessibility is a key factor and SM knows some of the schools are just a few minutes away from them. Even the UAAP is negotiating a share of use of venues (SAC-SMMA) for schools who can't bring their own crowd and they sometimes lack the same amount of fans to fill up SAC except when DLSU and ADMU are playing if not against each other but separately with different opponents.

You also have to take note that SM MOA Arena is gambling on the thought that they can increase people traffic and Mall of Asia would welcome them with open arms so as to make them stay and spend more in the Mall. SAC saw this too and they want a piece of the consumer pie even for just a short while and they hate the fact that SM MOA Arena will win more consumers at our expense after the games.

Speculation is that AKTV has expenses on logistics and using SM MOA Arena could be to their disadvantage as well. They invested on a 3-year deal with the NCAA so they want to reduce the cost while at the same time maximizing what they poured into the contract which includes coverage to all games and beyond basketball, out-of-town games, and pleasing partners like SMART-Araneta to make it worth their while.

Patunayan muna ng other member schools na kaya nila punuin ang Arena before they dream of the MOA. And without San Beda on opening day it will be hard for the other schools to fill-up the 16,000 seater MOA.

Babalik din sa mga bugok na MANCOM yung mga pinaggagawa nila.

mas madami kasing interesado kung ilan games ang suspension ng RL.

  18. #38
Mahusay ang MANCOM this season, kawawa din host dahil hindi nasunod ang MOA with SMMA! No fancy press releases, just hoping things will turn out alright when we watch it on tv.

As for crowd on opening day? Siyempre madami yan from all schools represented ang hatak! Ang tamang tanong eh yung mga susunod na laban! Kamusta naman kaya ang crowd sa games after ng opening?

We all know maganda support ng Red Army sa RL. Walang kumo-kontra!
