Bollywood Movies: An Asian Hollywood Spiced Up with Music!
This thread is made for those people who are fond of Indian Movies. Bollywood is just a name of the biggest movie studio there. Welcome and Enjoy!!!!
Let me start with the Highest Grossing Indian Film of All Time.... I love this movie also because of its genre and story. Who would forget Ranchodas Chanchad?
Ghajini (Hindi: गजनी) is a 2008 Indian psychological thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by Tagore Madhu and Madhu Mantena. The Soundtrack and film's score is by A. R. Rahman. It is a remake of Murugadoss's own 2005 Tamil film Ghajini starring Surya Sivakumar in the lead role.[4] The film stars Aamir Khan, Asin and Jiah Khan in lead roles while Pradeep Rawat and Riyaz Khan essay supporting roles. The Tamil version of Ghajini was inspired by Christopher Nolan's Memento.[5][6]
The film explores the life of a rich businessman who develops anterograde amnesia following a violent encounter in which his love interest, model Kalpana, was killed. He tries to avenge the killing with the aid of Polaroid Instant camera photographs and permanent tattoos on his body.[7] The character of Aamir Khan also featured in a 3D video game titled Ghajini - The Game, which is based on the movie.[8] Ghajini is currently the seventh highest grossing Bollywood film according to worldwide gross collections. On release it became the highest grossing movie of all time until it was beaten by another Aamir Khan movie 3 idiots in the following year. Ghajini also holds the notable distinction of being the first movie to break the 100 crore barrier in Indian cinema.[9]
Om Shanti Om is a Bollywood musical film directed and choreographed by Farah Khan. It stars Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles while Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher feature in supporting roles. More than forty-two well-known Bollywood stars appear in the course of the film, including thirty of them (not including the stars of the film) in one song alone. The film is set in the 1970s and 2000s; it pays tribute to, and pokes fun at the, Indian film industry of both these eras.
It is inspired by Rishi Kapoor's 1980 Bollywood film Karz and borrows many elements from it, including the title of the film which is named after one of the songs "Om Shanti Om". Also for a brief moment Rishi Kapoor can be seen dancing to the original song.
The film was released in 2000 prints worldwide making it the largest Indian cinematic release at the time.[3] Om Shanti Om released on 9 November 2007 to mostly positive reviews from critics and record breaking box office collections. It grossed over INR 1.49 billion worldwide, thus became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all-time at the time of its release.[4][5]
Kal Ho Naa Ho (English: Tomorrow May Never Come) is a 2003 Indian romantic drama film directed by debutante director Nikhil Advani. The film was written by Niranjan Iyengar and Karan Johar and produced by Yash Johar and Karan Johar under the Dharma Productions banner. The music of the film was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics written by Javed Akhtar.
The film features Jaya Bachchan as Jennifer Kapur, Shahrukh Khan as Aman Mathur, Saif Ali Khan as Rohit Patel, and Preity Zinta as Naina Catherine Kapur. It also features Lilette Dubey, Reema Lagoo, Sushma Seth and Delnaaz Paul in supporting roles. The film narrates the story of an uptight student, Naina Kapur, who falls in love with her neighbour, Aman Mathur, a terminally ill patient. Meanwhile, Aman tries to play matchmaker for Naina and her friend, Rohit Patel.
Made on a budget of INR30 crore (US$5.43 million), Kal Ho Naa Ho released on 28 November 2003 to positive critical reviews. Additionally, it was screened at the Valenciennes, Era New Horizons, Marrakech International and Helsinki Film Festival.
The film was a commercial success, with a lifetime gross of INR77.95 crore (US$14.11 million) and emerged as the second highest grossing film, domestically and the highest grossing film in the overseas market, that year.[3][4] When adjusted for inflation its total worldwide gross is INR 1.3 billion.[5] The following year, Kal Ho Naa Ho won 2 National Film Awards and 7 Filmfare Awards.
Critical reception
Kal Ho Naa Ho was well received by critics. Taran Adarsh gave the film 4 out of 5 stars and said: "Yes, Kal Ho Naa Ho does live up to the expectations. Yes, the SRK-Karan Johar magic does cast a spell the third time around. The film works, courtesy SRK's incredible performance and Karan's deft writing."[12] Archana Vohra from NDTV gave the film 3 out of 5 stars, stating, "Advani ... seems to have come up with an innovative way to present a done to death plot," later adding that "irrespective of the frills, fancy clothes and well-dressed stars, the film does strike a chord and is a brilliant debut by Nikhil Advani."[13] Rediff.com, in a positive review, wrote, "The film is fresh in treatment and storytelling. Shah Rukh excels as the supercool Aman. You understand why it is difficult for Karan to work with any other actor, because SRK steals the show with a designer-made role. Given SRK's performance, it is all the more important to take note of Saif, whose Rohit Patel will be remembered just as much as his Sameer in Dil Chahta Hai. Saif is first-rate, and your heart goes out to this under-rated actor. Preity Zinta slips into character beautifully. Right from the preppy spectacles to her no-nonsense demeanor, Preity captures the spirit of Naina Kapur. She has never looked so pretty. Kal Ho Naa Ho will carry you with its exuberance."[14] Mayank Shekhar in his review for Mid-Day gave it 3.5 stars out of 5 and wrote, "Yes, this is soft-focus, sweet background score, ‘life is simplistic’ escapist cinema. But the bottom line: at the end of the day, it works and is worth your entertainment bucks. And that’s saying a lot."[15] In a positive review, Dave Kehr from The New York Times concluded, "This is a rich meal that may best be reserved for stomachs accustomed to such bountiful fare."[16] Komal Nahta from Outlook, in a three-star review, remarked, "[writer] Johar has packaged the drama so very contemporarily that the final product holds its own. Undoubtedly, [the film] is one of the cleverest love triangles in Hindi cinema."[17] Ziya Us Salam wrote for The Hindu, "Watch Kal Ho Naa Ho. It is like life. It gives you reason to be disappointed, just as it gives you reason to hope."[18] In a four-star review, Jitesh Pillai of Filmfare wrote, "Anyone (which means almost everyone) who has loved and lost will recognize that Kal Ho Naa Ho is a bittersweet valentine to unrequited love. Nikhil Advani makes the sensational debut that other directors only dream of."[19]
The film also received some mixed reviews, Ram Kamal Mukherjee from Stardust praised the film's performances, technical aspects and its entertainment value, but noted several flaws in its "logistic part".[20] Rama Sharma from The Tribune concluded, "Kal Ho Na Ho is a usual filmi love web with a cosmopolitan appeal and a lot of comedy packed in the first half."[21] Jami Bernard from New York Daily News wrote, "Bollywood musicals, those big, loud, colorful extravaganzas from India, are an acquired taste and much of "Kal Ho Naa Ho" doesn't translate easily," though he further noted, "All three leads grow on you."[22]
Anupama Chopra, in a positive review, wrote, "Advani, who learned family film formula with masters Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar, emerges as a distinctive voice with his first film. Written by Johar, the film revisits old ground-NRIs, wedding song, snazzy club number and Shah Rukh-but also evolves the formula. It has technical pizzazz (split screens, in-camera dialogue) and an urbane wit despite snags like sub-plots with pat endings or a lame pre-interval portion. The dialogue by Niranjan Iyengar is perfectly pitched and the performances uniformly good."[23] Chopra included the film in her list of "Top Ten Movies of The Year", ranked fifth.[24]
Box office
Kal Ho Naa Ho was the second top-grossing movie of the year. It had a total nett gross of INR 35 crores in India alone, and was declared a Hit. It also made an additional INR 12 crores in the USA and INR 9 crores in the UK and thus collecting a total of INR 27 crores from the overseas market. The film became the top-grossing Bollywood film abroad that year. Kal Ho Naa Ho made a total of INR 77 crores worldwide.[3][4] When adjusted for inflation its total gross worldwide is INR 130 crores.[5]

Plot
A scientist named Dr. Sanjay Susra Mehra (director Rakesh Roshan) creates a computer program from which he sends variations of the syllable Om into space, hoping to attract the attention of extraterrestrial life. When he believes he has finally gotten a response, the scientific community mocks him.
While driving home, an alien spacecraft appears overhead. Dr. Mehra looks out the window, exclaims, "UFO!" and veers off the road. His pregnant wife (Rekha) grabs the steering wheel, causing the car to hit a stone, flip over and explode. Dr. Mehra dies, but his wife, thrown out of the car, survives the wreck and returns home to India. When their son Rohit (Hrithik Roshan, Rakesh Roshan's real son) is born, he is developmentally disabled. His mother raises him in the town of Kasauli, where he grows up to be a man of limited intellect and childish personality, but with a loving heart. Rohit has a number of much younger friends; loyal children who play with him.
He befriends a young woman named Nisha (Preity Zinta). Nisha is sympathetic towards him and humors him, knowing about his mental disability from his mother, who chastises Nisha's suitor Raj for beating Rohit up.
Rohit and Nisha find Sanjay's old 'Om' computer and summon the aliens by accident. The visiting aliens leave in haste, leaving one behind by accident. Rohit, Nisha and Rohit's friends find and befriend the alien, naming him Jadoo ("Magic") when they discover his psychokinesis abilities. Jadoo discovers that Rohit is mentally subnormal, so he uses his powers to enhance the boy's mind. Rohit finds himself accepted by most of his peers. Raj and his buddies attempt to embarrass Rohit multiple times, only to be beaten in fights as well as in basketball, since Rohit's physical strength and agility was increased along with his mental abilities. Rohit and his young friends also receive a little help from the telekinetic Jadoo during the basketball game, with humorous results.
Nisha and Rohit spend more and more time together and ultimately Rohit proposes to her, which she accepts. Jadoo's presence is kept secret from everyone but Rohit's friends and mother.
The government however, never gave up in their search for aliens. Police capture Jadoo, who is then rescued by Rohit after he summons the aliens to return for Jadoo. Jadoo flees in his returned family's spaceship and apparently taking Rohit's new mental and physical powers with him. Rohit again is mentally disabled, which saves him from prosecution by the government. After everything dies back down, Jadoo returns and restores Rohit's new abilities permanently. Nisha and Rohit lead a happy life together from then on.

Krrish ([ˈkrɪʃ]) is a 2006 Indian science fiction superhero film directed, produced, and written by Rakesh Roshan, and starring Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Rekha and Naseeruddin Shah. It is the second film in the Krrish series, being the sequel to Koi... Mil Gaya, and relates the story of Krishna, the son of the previous film's protagonists, who inherits his father's superhuman abilities. After falling in love with Priya, he follows her to Singapore, where he takes on the persona of "Krrish" to keep his identity secret while saving children from a burning circus. From that moment on he is regarded as a superhero, and must later thwart the plans of the evil Dr. Siddhant.
Krrish was conceived to be a film of global significance and a trendsetter in Indian cinema, with visual effects on par with those from Hollywood. To that end, the effects team was aided by Hollywood's Marc Kolbe and Craig Mumma, and the stunts were choreographed by Chinese martial arts film expert Tony Ching. The music was composed by Rajesh Roshan, with the background score by Salim-Sulaiman. Filming was done to a large extent in Singapore as well as India. The film was released worldwide in June 2006 at a cost of over INR45 crore (US$8.15 million) and on 1000 prints, both near record amounts for an Indian film at the time.
Krrish received mixed reviews from critics in India, but was widely appreciated by audiences, who gave it a record opening week at the box office. The film became the second highest earning Indian film of 2006 and grossed a worldwide total of INR117 crore (US$21.18 million). It was given a "blockbuster" rating by Box Office India. The film won both the National and Filmfare awards for special effects, while actor Hrithik Roshan received praise and numerous best actor awards for his role. The third film in the series is currently in production and planned for release in 2013.
PLOTE
Twelve-year-old Krishna Mehra undergoes an intelligence quotient test by a professor, who suspects that his family has superpowers. His grandmother Sonia (Rekha) takes the young Krishna to a remote mountain village to conceal his unique abilities. Years later, Krishna (Hrithik Roshan) meets Priya (Priyanka Chopra) and her friend Honey (Manini Mishra) when Krishna's friend Bahadur (Hemant Pandey) takes the girls camping near his home. After Krishna saves Priya from a hang glider accident, he falls in love with her.
After returning home to Singapore, Priya and Honey are fired by their boss (Archana Puran Singh) for taking a non-permitted extension in their vacation. In order to keep their jobs, Honey suggests making a television program about Krishna. Aware of Krishna's love towards her, Priya calls him to join her in Singapore. Krishna's grandmother objects to him leaving, saying that people will want to take advantage of his abilities. She then explains that his father Rohit was hired to help design a machine to see the future by Dr. Siddhant Arya (Naseeruddin Shah) in order to prevent wars and help prepare against natural disasters. However, Rohit later found out that the purpose of the machine was not for good. Rohit reportedly died in a laboratory accident that night, with Krishna's mother dying of a broken heart shortly thereafter. Krishna promises his grandmother that he will never reveal his powers, so she permits him to go. In Singapore, during the program's production, Krishna keeps his word and reveals nothing exceptional about himself. Priya and Honey are once again fired.
Krishna later meets with Kristian Li (Bin Xia), who attempts to raise funds to pay for his young sister's leg surgery. He invites Krishna and Priya to the Great Bombay Circus, where during the performance a fire beaks out in the tent. Several children remain trapped in the blaze, and Krishna is faced with the dilemma of saving the children without revealing his abilities. He dons a broken black mask and puts his jacket on inside-out, creating the persona of Krrish. Later, when Kristian Li sees Krrish fighting some goons and removing his mask, he learns that his friend Krishna is Krrish. As Krrish is being offered a reward for his deeds, Krishna asks Kristian to assume the identity, so that he can pay for his sister's surgery.
Meanwhile, Priya also comes to know that Krishna is Krrish when she sees the footage from her video camera. She and Honey decide to release the footage on TV to make Krishna a star. Krishna arrives and overhears them talking about how Priya had lied to him, and how they will reveal his identity. Just before Priya confesses to Honey that she has genuinely fallen in love with Krishna, he leaves, dejected.
After being confronted by Krishna at his hotel about what she said, Priya realizes her mistake and stops her boss from revealing Krrish's identity. She then meets Vikram Sinha (Sharat Saxena), who has been searching for Krishna for years. He informs them that Krishna's father Rohit is still alive, and that after completing the machine, he and Rohit tested it and saw Siddhant holding a gun to Rohit's head. Rohit understood that Siddhant was going to kill him and then use the machine for his own selfish needs. He was able to destroy the machine, before being taken prisoner by Siddhant.
Meanwhile, in the present timeline, Siddhant has rebuilt the computer after many years. He uses it to reveal his future and sees Krrish killing him. Siddhant then kills Kristian, thinking that he is Krrish. Krishna later follows Siddhant to his island lair. When Siddhant looks into the future again, he sees the same thing, and is shocked to see Krrish still alive and on his island.
When Krrish enters the compound, there is a vicious fight with Siddhant's thugs. Krrish eventually defeats them and saves Priya and Rohit. In the final scene, Krrish wounds Siddhant. Before he dies, Siddhant asks Krrish who he is, and Krishna reveals himself. After revealing to Rohit that he is his son, Krishna takes Priya and Rohit back to India, reuniting him with Sonia. Rohit then uses the computer to call Jadoo, whose spaceship can be seen from a distance.
Box Office
Krrish had a good opening week,[50] and tickets were reportedly selling for many times the original cost at some locations.[51] Total gross collections were an Indian record of INR41.6 crore (US$7.53 million) (INR29.7 crore (US$5.38 million) nett) for its opening week.[52] Krrish became the second-highest grossing film of 2006, earning over INR69 crore nett in India alone, and was classified as a "blockbuster" by Box Office India.[53] It also grossed $4,320,000 in the overseas market, where it was declared a "hit".[54] The final worldwide total gross was INR117 crore (US$21.18 million).[2] One week after Krrish was released, another superhero film, Superman Returns was released in India. Rakesh Roshan stated, "I was a little skeptical that Superman might hurt me, but fortunately it didn't." In fact, Krrish fared better at the box office in India than did the bigger budget American film.[28]

One of the best Bollywood Sci-Fi movies I've ever seen (the other one is "ROBOT"). Comedy+Family Drama+Romance+Action+Fantasy <--- alll in one.
Ra.One is a 2011 Indian science fiction superhero film directed by Anubhav Sinha and starring Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Armaan Verma, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami and Tom Wu in pivotal roles. The story follows Shekhar Subramanium (Khan), a game designer who creates a motion sensor-based game in which the antagonist (Ra.One) is more powerful than the protagonist (G.One). The former escapes from the game's virtual world and enters the real world; his aim is to kill Lucifer, the game ID of Shekhar's son and the only player to have challenged Ra.One's power.
Ra.One originated as an idea Sinha got while watching a television commercial. He expanded it into a script, and approached an interested Khan with the story. Principal photography began in March 2010 and took place in India and the United Kingdom. The post-production involved 3-D conversion and the application of visual effects, the latter being recognised as a technological breakthrough among Indian films. With a budget of at least INR125 crore (US$23.63 million), Ra.One was one of the most expensive Indian films at the time of release. A further INR52 crore (US$9.83 million) was spent on the marketing, which included a nine-month publicity campaign, brand tie-ups, merchandise, video games and viral marketing.
The film, initially scheduled to release on June 3, 2011, was delayed by the extensive post-production. It also faced controversies involving plagiarism, content leaks and copyright challenges. Consequently, Ra.One was released on October 26, 2011, the beginning of the five-day Diwali weekend, in 2D, 3D and dubbed versions. Premieres were held in Dubai, London and Toronto between October 24 and 26. The film witnessed the largest international theatrical release for an Indian film as of 2011, and was preceded by high audience and commercial expectations.
Upon release, critics endorsed mixed opinions of the film, with general praise for the visuals and music, and criticism of the script and direction. Commercially, the film became the third highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2011 and broke a number of box office opening records. Box office website Box Office India deemed Ra.One a domestic "hit" and overseas "super hit". The film won numerous awards for technical aspects, notably one National Film Award, one Filmfare Award and four International Indian Film Academy Awards. However, it also received dishonorable awards like "Worst Film," namely two Golden Kela Awards and one Ghanta Award.
PLOT
Shekhar Subramanium (Khan), a game designer who works for the London-based Barron Industries, has delivered a number of commercial failures; an irate Barron (Tahil) gives him his last chance to develop a truly successful game. In order to impress his sceptical son Prateek (Verma), and upon the request of his wife Sonia (Kapoor), Shekhar uses his son's idea that the antagonist should be more powerful than the protagonist. Shekhar's colleague, computer programmer Jenny (Goswami), uses his face as a model for that of the game's protagonist G.One (Good One), while the antagonist Ra.One (Random Access Version One)[ri 1] is made faceless. Another colleague, Akashi (Wu), implements the characters' movements. The game, named Ra.One, contains three levels, the final level being the only one in which either character can be killed. Each character possesses a special device H.A.R.T (Hertz Amplifying Resonance Transmitter) which gives them their powers. Upon reaching the last level, the characters gain a gun with one bullet; the other character can be killed by this bullet but only if his H.A.R.T is attached.
When Ra.One undergoes final tests, Akashi notices peculiarities but chooses to ignore them. When the game is officially launched, it receives a standing ovation from the audience; an enamoured Prateek insists on playing it immediately. He logs in under the ID Lucifer and proceeds to the second level, but is interrupted by Akashi. Ra.One, unable to end his turn with Lucifer and angry that a player has proceeded so far, becomes determined that Lucifer will die. He uses a wireless technology (which Jenny had demonstrated about in a conference) to enter the real world, a process which causes the mainframe to malfunction. Akashi informs Shekhar, who partially understands the situation and rushes home, fearing for his son's life. Meanwhile, Ra.One kills Akashi and assumes his form; he goes to find Lucifer, and meets Shekhar in the process. In an attempt to save his son, Shekhar claims that he is Lucifer, but his lie is exposed when Ra.One scans his identity card. Consequently, Ra.One kills Shekhar and makes it look like a car accident.
Sonia, devastated after Shekhar's death, tells Prateek that the family will return to India after Shekhar's funeral. A suspicious Prateek notices digital patterns on the fateful road and realises that Ra.One has come to life. He convinces Jenny when they see the destroyed game lab, and the latter tries to bring G.One into the real world. Ra.One chases the family on their way to the airport, but G.One enters the real world and causes a gas explosion which temporarily destroys Ra.One. G.One takes Ra.One's H.A.R.T. and accompanies the family to Mumbai after Sonia realises that she needs him. Subsequently, Ra.One returns to life, takes the form of a billboard model (Rampal), and tracks down G.One to Prateek's birthday party. He reaches the party, hypnotises Sonia and assumes her form to kidnap Prateek. Ra.One then instructs G.One to give him his H.A.R.T. back, and sends the real Sonia in a Mumbai Suburban Railway train. It crashes into the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, but G.One saves Sonia in time. He then returns to the virtual world to save Prateek. After a series of fights, both G.One and Ra.One reach the third level, the former left with little power. G.One tricks Ra.One into shooting him without his H.A.R.T. attached, leaving Ra.One helpless; furious, he creates ten copies of himself. Prateek, unable to differentiate the real Ra.One, asks G.One to quote Shekhar: "If you join the forces of evil, its shadows shall always follow you". The pair realise that only one of the ten Ra.Ones has a shadow: the original one. G.One shoots and destroys him, absorbs Ra.One's remains and disappears. Six months later, Prateek and Sonia return to London, where the former manages to restore G.One to the real world.

A lawyer fights the case about teen pregnancy, and the charge falls on Kabir. Maahi's father then agrees the children's relationship and fights the case against the opposite lawyer and Kabir is sentenced 3 months remand.
This movie is similar to the movie "2 Young" of Hong Kong, starring: Jaycee chan (Jackie chan's son) and Fiona Sit.
Another "Kabitan" Movie. This was so far the very interesting kabit-movie i'd ever seen so far. You might get up from your seat when you watch it.
The married girl is having an affair with her ex-boyfriend.
Genre: Heavy Drama-Thriller
