Some parents should realise that times are a-changing. As Bob Dylan puts it, Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command and your old road is rapidly aging. No matter how hard you try to impose authority on your children regarding sex or anything at all they will definitely find a way to do it (and keep it a secret, too) if they really want to - until they fall pregnant that is. You're blessed if you can honestly say that they obey your every whim.
I have been sexually active since the age of 16 and my mother was not happy about it at all. She was quite the old-fashioned lady but took control by telling me about the pitfalls of sex itself, before and after marriage, plus everything else she thought I should be aware of. I guess some would consider my mother kunsintidor and some have even criticised her for it but I'm now 23 and still without a child; not to be spiteful but some of those who looked down on her parenting are now grandparents. What do I have to thank for? Call me malibog if you will but it's human nature and at least I know what I'm doing. True, abstinence is the best way to avoid pregnancy as well as STDs and I don't condone people who get involved in sex without the slightest knowledge but the truth is we are currently facing it as a problem - not a minor one at that - and drastic measures have to be taken. Should we have to rely solely on sex education that won't happen overnight? I don't think so. Those people may be wrong and ignorant but that doesn't mean we should be indifferent to the situation. It is a societal problem after all and whatever happens to them affects the country as a whole.
Just my two cents.
