I married my wife and brought her to America. We opened our own business that was quite successful. When I asked her dad permission to marry her I promised him I would bring her back home, we would just be getting our finances organized so we could have a great future in the philippines without money worries. While in America we bought a coconut farm so we could have land and equity as soon as we got here. We often sent money to her parents for her little brothers education 20,000 to 50,000 pesos at a time. We sent 20,000 pesos to have the coconut farm surveyed and then another 20,000 for the title to get processed. We lived in America for 4 years and moved here to the philippines.
My wifes father asked me what our plans were, I told him we wanted to buy some property and build a house and a business. He told me no need to build a house, he wanted us to live there with him. I said his house was quite small and crowded for my wife and me and our daughter, because he had 2 sons, his wife, his daughter in law and his grandson there already. He said to me no problem you can add on and do whatever you need. I said what about your windows, they are completely open and you have many flies and other bugs and things in your house, I said I would have to put screens on those to make the house livable and comfortable. No problem he said do what you want. I had also just bought a starex van and he said a new cement driveway and steel gate should be put in for protection so no one would steal it it vandalize it, or damage it as we liveon a main highway.
So my wife and I talked about it and figured it may be less expensive to just make the additions to their house and remodel it as many things need fixed, like the roof,, all the walls had HUGE cracks in them, and a lot of work needed done. Well we thought it was a good idea. So we put screens on every window, redid all the finishing on the walls because a lot of walls were not finished and you could see the hollow blocks, we added a room onto the kitchen to hold up the kitchen wall as it was ready to fall off, we re-did their piggery out back and added a septic tank for it because the piggery sewage was laying right on top of their water source and when you took a bath it smelled like pig sewage(poop) we did the cement driveway, and the hollowblock wall and 6 foot steel gate and fence. All the time her father was running the construction jobs and was getting a commission from all his friends he hired who were drastically overcharging me. Like the steel gate and fence we had quoted from another welder after the job was done, it was quoted at 14,000 pesos, we were charged 21,000. He was the one after everything was over told us her dad got a 3000 peso commission on the job, it would have been cheaper if he would have lowered his commission. And every one of the projects went like this.
We also bought a 45 inch flat screen TV a new refridgerator because theirs did not work, a new stove hecause theirs was rusted, an aircon 2 new coutches and had 25 balikbayan boxes mof more stuff we brought from america, microwave, coffee pots, toaster ovens, more kitchen supplies than they had, brand new pots and pans and silverwarea 70 inch TV and all kinds of everything we had we brought. As the renovations were coming to a closing, I noticed her father continuously starting fights with my wife. Then her brother got mad at her and hit my wife when he broke the starex van key. She tried to ask him what he did and he was drunk and got mad and hit her and pushed her to the ground. Then his girlfriend who lives there began an argument with my wife, my wife tried to walk away and bumped into her. Then her brother said if we did not leave he was going to kill me my wife and my 2 year old daughter in our sleep. So for 4 months I did not sleep at all, about 1 hour a night and I kept away from her family as much as possible.
We stopped giving her parents any more money to renovate their house and bought our own property and began building our own house and Grocery Store. Even tho we just put 283,000 pesos in her dads house plus the 20,000 in labor.
Her father was then accused by our tennant of cutting 36 coconut trees on our coconut farm and keeping the money. We then found out he was supposed to be keeping half of the harvest money and putting the rest in our bank account, when we checked he had not ever deposited our money in the bank. My tennant and I contacted the loggers who cut our coconut trees down, and verified that her father told them he had our permission to cut the trees and in fact did have 36 trees cut from our property. Then we found out they never got the farm surveyed or the title finished and kept all that money too.
After that came out the situation between my wife and her father got extremely worse, he began ignoring us calling us greedy and saying we were bribing him. How I can bribe him I never understood. He had nothing I wanted or needed. It was me who was scammed and bribed by him, I thought. Well one day before our house and store was even done the poop hit the fan all because he said my wife was walking loudly in the house. he then told my wife we had to leave his house just as what we were going to pay for was finished the week before. His daughter in law who started the arguments with my wife was on her way home and we were busy trying to finish our building so we ould move out, and I was not going to let her sit there and enjoy all our new stuff so I began to take our stuff out of the house when the store was finished. Her father got extremely mad and started a fight with me then and I gave it right back to him, he then said we had 3 days to get our things out of his house. That next day it was raining very hard and he put all our stuff out in the rain, so i had to go get the rest, Mind you we just got our store done and the house was no where near finished. So we had to cram all our personal stuff in our store and it took room away to hold products.
Later that day her mom came to the store and my daughter wanted to play with grandma, because she was mad at me and my wife she was bothered by my daughter and hit her in the forehead and pushed her away almost to the ground. Left a bump and a huge red mark on her forehead. Then went around town telling everyone not to shop at our store because we were bad people. And tried their best to have me deported.
We no longer talk to her parents, and refuse to give them anything at all. We are in fact trying to sell our Grocery Store disco bar and piggery and want to move to manila. The sad thing is THe store does great even tho her parents have tried everything to make us fail. the rest of my wifes family say her parents are very jealous. The store does over 2,200,000 a year. It is great, but even at 5500 to 8000 a day we have a lot of customers who will not shop at our store because my wife is Boy Gangcas daughter and they do not like him, and another handful that won't shop there because they are her father and mothers friends. So if we are doing 5500 to 8000 pesos a day if someone outside the family buys our store that income will go up to a lot more. We love our store and our property is beautiful and I love the town they are all great, I just can not live close to her dad, they upset my wife, they refuse to pay us back, and they scam everyone around them, even their own brothers and sisters.
So that is my experience sorry it was so long
