The 2012 AFF Cup, also known as the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup for sponsorship reasons, will be the ninth edition of the ASEAN Football Championship, the football championship of Southeast Asia. It will be co-hosted by Malaysia and Thailand and will take place from 24 November to 22 December 2012.
There are two main venues; the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur and the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok with two secondary venues which will be used simultaneously with the main venue on the final match day of the group stage.
Qualification is expected to be held in October 2012 based on schedules of previous qualifying tournaments. It will involve the five lower ranked teams in Southeast Asia. All teams play in a round-robin tournament format and the top three teams qualify for the tournament proper since Indonesia could be banned by FIFA.
The 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup qualification tournament will be held in Myanmar from October 5 to 13, 2012. It will involve the five lower ranked teams in Southeast Asia. All teams play in a round-robin tournament format and the top three teams qualify for the tournament proper due to Indonesia that could possibly be suspended by FIFA because of governmental interference in its affairs. The draw is slated for July 11, 2012.
