1 – Inexpensive labor.
It’s probably the only place in the world where paying for household help doesn’t cause a major dent on the wallet. I come home from a long and stressful day at work and I only have to worry about my children and how to spend the rest of our waking hours. It’s the only place I know where I can indulge in little luxuries on a regular basis. These things, I need, to preserve my sanity!
2 – Financial independence, a reason no more.
The US economy has been in a slump for quite sometime now. So the financial perks of living there, no longer exist as much as they did years ago. I’d rather stay here and have a solid support system around like family and friends.
3 – Crime
I never fail to read the news, local and international. I don’t see any difference in the crime trends here and in America. In fact, I’m more scared of the kind of crimes that exist there.
4 – Weather
It’s weird enough nowadays, with global warming and all. But I’d rather deal with typhoons than add tornadoes, hail storms and the like.
5 – The absence of a support system
I’ve always had very close familial ties. Leaving the Philippines would also mean, leaving my immediate family behind. It’s never an easy thing to do for anyone. I belong to a very small family and therefore, find it hard to imagine myself anywhere else.
Is life in America for you? It could be, but not for me.
