1 Ė Inexpensive labor.
Itís probably the only place in the world where paying for household help doesnít cause a major dent on the wallet. I come home from a long and stressful day at work and I only have to worry about my children and how to spend the rest of our waking hours. Itís the only place I know where I can indulge in little luxuries on a regular basis. These things, I need, to preserve my sanity!
2 Ė Financial independence, a reason no more.
The US economy has been in a slump for quite sometime now. So the financial perks of living there, no longer exist as much as they did years ago. Iíd rather stay here and have a solid support system around like family and friends.
3 Ė Crime
I never fail to read the news, local and international. I donít see any difference in the crime trends here and in America. In fact, Iím more scared of the kind of crimes that exist there.
4 Ė Weather
Itís weird enough nowadays, with global warming and all. But Iíd rather deal with typhoons than add tornadoes, hail storms and the like.
5 Ė The absence of a support system
Iíve always had very close familial ties. Leaving the Philippines would also mean, leaving my immediate family behind. Itís never an easy thing to do for anyone. I belong to a very small family and therefore, find it hard to imagine myself anywhere else.
Is life in America for you? It could be, but not for me.
