    from corporate world to teaching

I work for a bank(branch) for almost 3 years na. Smart move ba mag-transfer from corporate world to teaching?

    Thank you.

Itry nyo din po sir hehe. Malay nyo nasa pagtuturo ang hinahanap nyong fulfillment diba. I took mine last year po, now I'm preparing for the board exams on September. Ang masasabi ko lang po eh kung feeling nyo talaga na gusto o hilig nyo magturo, its worth trying usually ang class e every Saturday, depende sa skul na papasukan mo, as of now, 18 units pa din ang required ng PRC. Good luck sir Smart move sya lalo na kung alam mong sa field of teaching ka sasaya, kasi based of=n my experience, kahit gano kalaki ang sweldo mo, kung hindi ka naman masaya, parang wala din. So hanapin mo talaga yung makakapagpasaya sayo..

It prepares you to the fundamentals of teaching profession.

    Totoo.

    Salamat ah

If you are single and don't have dependents like parents or family who rely on your income for their well-being ok lang. Otherwise pag-isipan mong mabuti. Marami akong kakilalang magagaling na teachers, na nung lumalaki ang financial needs ng mga dependents nila like schooling of kids and medical needs ng parents, napilitang bumalik sa corporate world.

    Why not do both?

I teach in the evenings and on Saturdays, but am still part of the (boring) corporate world.

Do what serves you right. Seek self-fulfillment. Try and explore things habang kaya pa ng physical body natin.

I came from the corporate world too (I use to be under the Training Dept) and after getting married decided to stay at home for a couple of years, but I was really dreaming to be a teacher so I decided to go back to school and got the 18 units from a university just a block away from our house. I took it for one sem and one summer class, then I enrolled for a review class before taking the LET exam (Sat and Sun sched). It is fulfilling, pero ang pagod at stress andun pa din. You will surely enjoy teaching esp High School kids, fulfillment comes at the end of the school year and every quarter when you see them learn and improve in your class. Students are very appreciative esp. if they see all your efforts, sincerity and motherly/fatherly concern. There is also politics in school but it still depends on what school. Teaching is a noble profession indeed, but it is not financially fulfilling.... so lower your expectations in this matter. Most teachers I know accept sidelines like tutorials, etc. as additional source of income.

Getting tired easily in a boring job is a sign that that is not your passion. Seek your passion, excel and you will find fulfillment.

If you want to try teaching, start by teaching part-time, so that you can validate if that's really what will make you happy and feel fulfilled. But don't forget to take your masters. Requirement yun to become a full-time professor.

It's quite easy to say that do something that you really wanna do but I guess we lose the luxury of doing so when we have obligations to fulfill and mouths to feed.

That said, gusto ko rin magturo (in college), pero bago yun kelangan ko muna maging stable financially.

i do agree. getting tired easily in a boring job is a bad sign. if you want to get a master's degree na flexi time, UPOU can be your answer

Ganun pala yun. Parang mas gusto ko sana sa elementary. Pero mukha namang masaya din sa Highschool. Bahala na. Sana pumasa ako at matapos ko yung units.

Maraming salamat pala sa info. Goodluck sa boardexam mo

    @Ms. LauraMV & callgurl.

Na-inspire ako sa ni-share nyo about teaching. Gagawin kong motivation yan.

    Thank you.

Yes, masaya, nagturo kasi ko sa ilang nursing schools before I went back to practice, (Im a PT).

Masaya, and magaaral ka talaga, pero if you enjoy teaching, studying shouldnt be an issue,

I start my lessons with a clinical problem, kaya nagiisip na agad ang mga estudyante, and this puts them in a defensive than offensive mode,

syempre ang students pag nakaaral na ng books mayabang na, so nagaangas na yan na magtanong, so show them what you got that they dont= experience.

and since may experience ka na, you have an edge. kelangan mo na lang i integrate yung experiences mo with the lessons.

may lessons are also board ready, kaya nung pumasa yung mga students ko, they came to me thanking me, na buti na lang daw tinuro ko to, tinuro ko yan,

and they speak ill of professors who handled their lessons lightly, so take teaching seriously, kasi students would remember you how you were, kung chika prof ka lang or may substance ka.

its really fulfilling, lalo na pag nakita mo mga students mo na nakapasa sa boards or when they tell you nakahanap na sila ng work.

I agree that working in the corporate world is boring.

Been there, and I shifted to teaching. In pre-school. I'm just starting, but I'm loving it. I believe this is really my calling.

same here I teach after office hour coz the school is ust 10 minutes drive from the office. since we don't have office on saturday i also teach on that day 1 or 2 subjects . I am happy in teaching, truly fullfilling though its not financially rewarding, corporate world makes me bored most of the time but i love the compensation and the package

Teaching, studying, and researching go together in a teaching career. You have to engage in almost continuous study because it keeps you abreast of the fast changing world of new theories and concepts. MA, PhD, Post-Doctoral studies, it never ends. Research helps define your specific area of expertise. Subsequent publication and presentation of your research work in academic fora such as academic journals and conferences is also a must. The saying "publish or perish" is no joke. Finally, teachers can engage in "limited practice of profession" outside of school. This enhances ones reputation in the "outside world". All these score points for promotion, and adds to your income. All these makes the life of an academic potentially dynamic and resistant to routine.

There is one last fringe benefit to this. Teaching puts you in the constant presence of young people, with all their thoughts and aspirations. It is often contagious, so your maturity is invigorated by their youth.

nasa CBA ng UST that (up to 5?) children of faculty members get free tuition from HS to College. miscellaneous na lang ang bayarin

sa college where i teach it is encouraged to practice, it is the best way to be current.
