    Specs Myth

Not all OSes are created equal.

Some needs more than a single core processor to be at par with buttery responsiveness.

The number of cores in a phone has an inelastic trend. Four is stretching too much. When Redmond goes 2, somebody needs to go 8?

How does one explain the considerable lag in s3's OS?

    OS design?

    Artsy fartsy element?

    Pure vm limitation?

Too many apps. Too complex apps.

Install rudimentary apps and you'll get smooth, buttery performance.

    Really?

    Here, help yourselves: http://wmpoweruser.com/quadcore-sams...d-to-be-laggy/

Someone please tell me that they have tried the s3 and gotten a result not parallel to ubergizmo.

    O shempre wala.

    Rationalisations suck.

    boplaks talaga.

hanap ka lang sa youtube andaming vids doon showing it to be lagless even when playing vids via pop-up play while playing games, surfing a website na heavy sa flash etc etc.
yang link mo puro satsat lang, yung mga youtube vids are proof that shows otherwise.
    kaya nice try.

NOT EVEN WM NOR ANDROID CAN AND WILL SAVE NOKIA.
karma tawag dyan for milking its users so much na di man lang nakikinig sa mga requests ng mga loyal customers nila.

your windows have years of headstart kumpara sa ibang phone os, pero anyari?
tapos ngayon kahit sa pag gawa ng UI palpak! balak pang gawing bkla ang mga lalake at babae sa buong mundo with that yuck METRO ui.

Everybody reading this post please ask themselves why android is now at 4 cores?

Kakain ka pa ba kung busog ka na?

    Sana ma-gets na.

    Hindi pa?

Sino ang mas magaling, an entity that needs only one brain to function at par or the other that needs 4? When we give the entity that needs only a brain 3 more, would your conclusion differ?

    Libre po'ng gumamit ng utak.

I think marketing also has part to play in this. The most recent other example I can think of was with the PS3, whose marketing was based in part on how powerful its Cell processor was.

Another example would be the PC vs Mac debate, where marketers and fans on the PC side use raw technical specs to promote their products instead of using the overall user experience.

Same thing with these phones. Between a phone with two cores and one with four, it's easier to sell the quad core one to an everyday non technical consumer. Especially when there is little price difference.

    Simple answer : Multi-tasking

IOS and WP doesn't really offer true multi-tasking unlike the Android OS. They (IOS&WP) just put the app/s into a hibernation state when not in used. The Android OS can run multiple apps without putting the apps to hibernation. Having that capability and underpowered specs, the phone gets laggy and slow. The solution is to put much powerful hardware (cores and memory) to take full advantage of Android OS. The new S3 proved that having a powerful specs makes the android better.

^ Just curious: Are there any usage scenarios in which Android's true multitasking would make its user more productive?

I was just wondering because we're talking here about OSes for mobile devices that can't show multiple apps at once on the screen. Aside from the comfort of knowing that the other apps are running in the background (even if you can't see them), are there any other benefits?

I don't have a smartphone, but I'm planning to buy an Android phone. Why not Windows? Sure, Windows phone has a beautiful UI, runs smoothly even with a single core processor and a small RAM, very enticing. But why Android? Unlike Windows phone, Android's market of apps and games has definitely a lot more to offer. I'm a student, but I'm still into gaming that's why I'm going for the Droid side. Even if Windows phone's marketplace is growing, trying to catch up with iOS and Android's, Google's OS still just has more quality apps and games thanks to its openness to 3rd party apps. Although not as much "quality" apps and games as the iOS, the reason why Android succeeds is because it is also open for customization, whether cosmetic or administrative customization. Users either download apps like widgets, live wallpapers, launchers, or quasi-administrative apps like file explorers, task managers, etc., or for advanced users rooting, overclocking, etc. without voiding the phone's warranty (unlike Windows or iOS). In a nutshell, Android's nonrestrictive nature trumps Windows, and iOS as well (since you're using Apple's for trying to win this argument), for overall usability.

Now, for the "specs myth", it's not a myth when an OS needs a lot of driving power when it performs heavy tasks. Droids need to handle live apps and widgets in background while performing it's own processes like handling traffic in the RAM and all other processes which I do not know, if there are more. Why are there dual and quad-cores? Multitasking is one reason, but another big reason is gaming. Currently, the iDevices and the Droids are slowly replacing handheld consoles. Gaming is heavily marketed on both OSes, more and more games like those you would usually be playing in your PSP or DS are making its way to both markets. Windows may offer some but not as good as those in the other two OSes. It's just with the multi-cores and big RAM that these games could run while being a mobile phone in the background.

And why Android over iOS? I can't afford the iPhone. There's the iPod touch you might say, but I need a smartphone. And there's a lot of Android phones out there that it's harder to choose between the phones than between the OSes. Plus, there's piracy, which is good business for Google actually.

This. I don't care about quad cores and UI smoothness and all that. Those nitpicks are reserved for my PC.

The fact simply is you can buy a decent Android phone with practically all the functionality that the Android Market offers at less damage to your wallet than any other phone.

Get a mid to low-end Android phone, "Hey, I can play lots of games with this phone and there's a bunch of cool launchers and other stuff for free! Yeah sure, I get the usual lags and force closing apps, but there's just much more it has to offer at this price!"

Get a Windows phone at the same price, "OH SH*T THIS UI IS SO COOL! THE LIVE TILES ARE F*CKING GREAT AND IT'S DAMN SMOOTH! THIS PHONE KICKS ANDROID'S ***! THERE'S A BUNCH OF GAMES IN THE MARKETPLA... wait, what? I can't play Angry Birds? Oh, screw it, it's a paid app anyway. I'll just get that free game with that running stick dude. BUT NOW IMMA SKYPE MY GIRLFRIEND LIKE HELLDAMNIT I CAN'T USE SKYPE?!?! THIS IS JUST ONE SON OF A B*TCH SH*TTY MOTHERF*CKI... how much was that Android phone again?"

Are we done with this thread? Come on, I wanna hear more from Tomas_Santos and Redmond! Convince us with your Windows stuff!

Una sa lahat mga fandroids, no one is preventing you from buying a linux phone running on a vm.

If you choose to hand over your money buying what YOU comprehend is best, then go right ahead.

It is just true. Just by simple swiping with zeromopen apps, android is really laggy. Kaya nga kelangan nyan ng sangkatutak na cores.

Plain fact: windows phone run mkre smoothly than android; better specs lead to better performance is a myth when comparing android with other OSes.

    Tapos.

Kung gusto nyo bumili ng S3 then go. Do not go here spilling you have doubts on your chosen OS by presenting a deluge of DEFENSIVE posts. Tssss.
