    Computation of GWA

How do you compute the GWA if you have failing grades? I received my ToR last month but it does not indicate the GWA.

I tried googling it and found a thread at PEx(UP Sub-forum), here are some of the posts:

    For example.

A student took these subjects (and have these grades) in three semesters:

    First Sem

    Subj - Units -Grade

    A1 - 3 units - 1.0
    B1 - 3 units - 5.0 (FAILED)

    Second Sem
    A2 - 3 units - 5.0 (FAILED)
    B1 - 3 units - 1.0 (RETAKE)

    First Sem
    A2 - 3 units - 1.0 (RETAKE)
    B2 - 3 units - 1.0

What's the GWA? To summarize, the student only took four subjects with the following grades:

    A1- 1.0
    B1- 5.0, then 1.0
    A2- 5.0, then 1.0
    B2- 1.0

Is the student's GWA 1.0 (we should only account for the final grade on the subject, even when it's second take)

    or

Is it 2.33 (account both Failing grade and passing grade for a given subject). Thank you!

then multiply the grades you got with its respective number of units.
add the results then divide it by the total number of units.
    in your ex.

    subject a = (5+2)/3 = 3.5 x 3 units = 10.5
    subject b = 3 x 3 units = 9
    subject d = 1.5 x 3 units = 4.5

    a+b+d= 24 / 9 units = 2.67

    GWA = 2.67

in UP, PE and NSTP are not included in the computation of grades, they are just requirements for a student to graduate.

*edit - i'm not sure if other colleges/univ have different policies on what grade should be used/credited, whether to include the failing grade or not. just call that school or talk to the college secretary.
    My questions:
    a. Does the same(average grade of failed and retake x no. of units) apply to UST?
    b. What are the subjects excluded from the computation of GWA?

What I know is that you will not include the subjects that you repeat in your GWA. But for the sem ave (if you took the course during summer) the course that you repeat will be included.
